Neidong National Forest Recreation Area；內洞國家森林遊樂區（英語版）
Situated in southeastern Xinshian Village in Wulai Township of Taipei County, the 1191-hectare Neidong National Forest Recreational Area ranges from 230 to 800 meters above sea level. Due to the Neidong and Nanshih Creeks, which run through the recreational area, and dense forest blocking the cold wind, the incredibly humid climate is mild with a mean annual temperature of 20oC. With abundant anion and phytoncid, Neidong is the best forest bath area in northern Taiwan.
This area is surrounded by waterfalls, streams and forests. Nanshih Creek is deep and wide with clear water and numerous stones on its river bank.
There is a pleasant Sand Creek Fall near the entrance of Neidong. Neidong Creek is narrow, and rapidly flowing water cuts the valley into a steep ravine.

Neidong (內洞) Forest Park in Taiwan
Trip to the scenic Neidong (內洞) National Forest Recreation Area in Taipei County, Taiwan on Feb. 7, 2011.
Neidong Forest Park (also known as Wawagu) was established in 1984 and is located in Wulai district (烏來區) of Taipei County. The magnificent mountainous scenery and canyons of the park are connected with Wulai (Ulay, 烏來) and has the best conserved ecology in northern Taiwan.
The Nanshi and Neidong rivers that run across the park form many waterfalls. Among them, the most famous is the 3-level Xinxian Waterfall that presents a grand spectacle. There are many camping and barbeque sites near the waterfall. With its flora and fauna well conserved, visitors can enjoy the dense forests, the birds and butterflies in a serene environment.

Many of the signs tell visitors to listen to the birds chirping. There are tons of species in this National Park. In this video you can hear the birds chirping.

Don Yan Shan is a mountain in Taiwan that has the highest altitude out of the hundreds of mountains here. The highest peak is at 1,212 meters. The name Don Yan has two original stories. One story says that Don Yan Shan is a pair of eyes staring towards the east, the second story claims the original name came from the Tayal tribe called Rgyax-Tonga. There are a few different trails within Don Yan Shan Forest Park, but it doesn't matter which route you choose, you'll be able to observe the wonderfully diverse ecosystem here. If luck is on your side, you could even spot a large mammal or maybe even the Taiwan Black Bear!
Neidong Waterfall (內洞瀑布 );
This three-tier waterfall is the product of differential erosion of the Neidong River bed. The middle tier is the largest of the three, dropping 19 meters in a thunderous plunge to the pool below. Leshuei Bridge and the viewing pavilion by the trail are the best locations at which to enjoy this impressive sight. The lower tier is the smallest, descending just three meters. While it lacks the power of the tiers above it, it is still a beautiful sight, especially when viewed from the Leshuei Bridge stretching across the Neidong River. The uppermost fall pours down from a height of about 13 meters. Of the three falls, it is the only one at which visitors can stay nearby and enjoy the refreshing splash of the water. The heanion-charged air at Neidong Waterfall is considered the best in Taiwan. The forest, river, and boulders are also home to a number of birds, frogs, butterflies and other creatures, making Neidong an excellent area to learn about the ecology of northern Taiwan.

Welcome to this full HD (1920x1080) video about my recent trailrunning in the pristine Amazon-like rain forest and vegetation in Taiwan. We ran one section of my dream course Wulai Fun Spartathlon (~ 250K / 60,000ft climbs) on Zhongling Security trail and Harpen trail, both rich in history and culture for about 200 years during the native Atayal tribe and Japanese ruling.
Very few tourists, foreigners, or even locals have ever experienced up close and personal in such gorgeous mountain side of Taiwan, truly unique among many other populous countries. I have selected the best of my 400 pictures and clips to compose this video for your pleasure. Please enjoy our 22 mile wild and scenic adventure of 7,500 ft climbs over rough terrains, steep technical trails, rope rappelling, and numerous river crossings.
Third day of our trip to the Maolin National Scenic Area. We stayed the second night at the Pu-Lao Hot Spring Hotel ( in Bulao. From there we headed north to the village of Baolai where we went on a walk following the Pulaixitou Tribe Historic Battle Trail. Plum trees were blooming and the scenery was great. Then we headed back south following the Laonong River. We saw the 18 Arhats Mountains across the river and then stopped at a date (jujube) farm in Dajin. Finally, we had lunch at the Meinong Folk Village before heading back home to Taipei.
