Nelles Manor Commemoration of the Battle of the Forty with IMUC 2019
June 8th 2019, I join my fellow reenactors in the Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada to remember the Engagement at the Forty in Grimsby, Ontario. There was a commemoration parade, ceremony, and militia demonstrations during the day. A festival was also held adjacent to the Nelles Manor at the Grimsby Museum.
HISTORICAL GRIMSBY: LAND OF THE GINGERBREAD HOUSES EPISODE #5
Grimsby is one of Canada's most historical places, due to the influence of the War of 1812. Grimsby boasts one of the most unique 'gingerbread' beach villages of colourful homes people come to visit. It is also one of the biggest, historical locals for original revival groups in Canada. Grimsby also has; Nelles Manor, one of the greatest mansions in Canada, formerly owned by Robert Nelles, a member of the British Army, and the famous Carnegie Building.
Welcome to the Nelles Manor
The Nelles Manor was built in 1798, and continues to thrive as a museum today. It is dedicated to fostering community connections, and preserving local heritage. If you'd like to visit a local historic site, or get involved with your community, the Nelles Manor would be happy to have you.

Commemoration of the Engagement at the Forty
A military engagement took place in our town of Grimsby on June 8th in 1813 during the War of 1812. As the American army retreated from Stoney Creek, they camped along the Forty Mile Creek and were subsequently bombarded by British naval fire along the shores of Lake Ontario, joined by attacks on foot from our own 4th and 5th Regiments of the Lincoln Militia, along with our Indigenous allies.
Due to the significance of this event for our town, we will commemorate the 205th Anniversary of the Engagement at the Forty on June 8th 2019. We are a officially designated Battle Site, and a registered charitable organization whose purpose is to educate the public about some of our town’s earliest days, and to bring history to life.
Hope to see you there!
Shout-out to Forty Creek Whisky for providing us with this amazing promo video. Check out their 2019 limited release entitled Victory in commemoration of Grimsby's role in the War of 1812.

Canada Day and the Upcoming Quilt Exhibition
We had a great Canada Day at the manor (despite the heat), and we're also happy to talk about our new-to-us antique union flag! It was donated by a volunteer/flag expert.
Our next event is a Quilt Exhibition at the manor, where we will have over 50 quilts on display, as well as refreshments and an old-fashioned letter press.
