Re posted now with the correct identification (my thanks to the deep for pointing out my mistake) HMS Pickle was the vessel that carried John Lapenotiere to Falmouth from where he succeeded in getting to London in under 37 hours carrying the news of Nelsons death and the Victory at Trafalgar. Lapenotiere was the son of a naval officer born at Ilfracombe, in 1770 and had served on expeditions to the South Seas 1785-88, and later in the Channel, the West Indies and Mediterranean. He was immediately promoted commander for his services at Trafalgar, became a captain in 1815 and after retiring died in 1834 at Fanny Vale, near Liskeard, Cornwall.

HMS Pickle appeal by Mal Nicholson in Portugal filmed by Riskex Gibraltar
Mal Nicholson bought HMS Pickle in Gibraltar in July 2014. Whilst bringing her back to the UK she suffered damage off of the Cape of Trafalgar and limped in Cadiz for repairs. Initial repairs enabled her to get to Vilamoura, Portugal where she has stayed over the winter. Unfortunately the bill for repairs has mounted up and this appeal video shows the extent of the works required to get her in a sea worthy state. The upside is she will be able to sail back to the UK and will also be able to attend locations along her route and so we are appealing for help, sponsors, ideas to help raise money and get Pickle back to the UK. If you can help or have any ideas please follow the news on Facebook, search for Riskex Gibraltar or email me: m.delo@riskex.eu
