Plymouth Rock
Pilgrim Memorial State Park is one of the most heavily visited parks in the state parks system. Nearly one million people a year come from all over the world to visit The Rock and the town where in 1620 Europeans first made a home in New England. This simple glacial erratic boulder on the shore of Plymouth Harbor has become a world famous symbol of the courage and faith of the men and women who founded the first New England colony. A landscaped waterfront park provides scenic views of Plymouth Harbor. The Mayflower II, a replica of the ship that brought the first Pilgrims to Massachusetts, is anchored at the park.

(DaRosa): But like we said, our condolences go to every family member …
(Writhington) Everybody who was involved
(DaRosa): the death, the hospital — everything — to people that are still there, ones that came home.
2. home in which Arthur DaRosa stabbed 80-year-old Patricia Slavin and 48-year-old Kathleen Slavin as they ate their dinner
3. Various of the exterior of the Macy's store at the Silver City Galleria, where Arthur DaRosa attacked several other people — including one fatally — before an off-duty sheriff's deputy fatally shot him
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Liz DaRosa, Stabbing Suspect's Aunt I found out on TV. Actually I was talking to my niece on TV and it came: suspect dead and there were three victims … the three victims were shot, I mean, they were gone already. That's how we found out.

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Liz DaRosa, Stabbing Suspect's Aunt
My first reaction was 'that was not A.J. No way. Never. Never.
Erica Writhington, DaRosa's Family Friend: My first reaction … I was at the hospital with the sister the night before, she went to visit him, and it didn't dawn on me that it was him because my understanding he was still at the hospital and I didn't know he got discharged.
7. Exterior of the DaRosa home
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Liz DaRosa, Stabbing Suspect's Aunt, Erica Writhington, DaRosa's Family Friend
(DaRosa): His family has gone through tragedy within the two months of so many deaths in the family. We've gone through what? Three? This would be the fourth one within two months, and it's been close family members. So I don't know how much we can take. But at the bottom line, it is remembering A.J. for who he was — the smile, the jokes, him helping everybody, wanting to help …
(Writhington): His heart. Big, huge heart.
(DaRosa): And not … and not what happened that night.
STORYLINE
The family of a man who fatally stabbed two people and assaulted others inside a home and a Massachusetts mall before he was shot and killed says he had been discharged from a hospital without being treated for his mental illness. Liz DaRosa says her nephew Arthur DaRosa was discharged on Tuesday without the proper treatment.
An off-duty sheriff's deputy shot and killed the 28-year-old DaRosa inside an Italian restaurant on Tuesday. Authorities say DaRosa had attacked two women inside a home in Taunton, Massachusetts, killing one. He then crashed his car into the Macy's department store entrance and attacked several people inside. He attacked more people inside the restaurant, killing one, before he was shot and killed.

Spencer Tracy
Spencer Bonaventure Tracy (April 5, 1900 – June 10, 1967) was an American actor, noted for his natural style and versatility. One of the major stars of Hollywood's Golden Age, Tracy was nominated for nine Academy Awards for Best Actor and won two, sharing the record for nominations in that category with Laurence Olivier.
Tracy discovered his talent for acting while attending Ripon College, and later received a scholarship for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He spent seven years in the theatre, working in a succession of stock companies and intermittently on Broadway. Tracy's breakthrough came in 1930, when his lead performance in The Last Mile caught the attention of Hollywood. After a successful film debut in Up the River, Tracy was signed to a contract with Fox Film Corporation. His five years with Fox were unremarkable, and he remained largely unknown to audiences after 25 films. In 1935, Tracy joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Hollywood's most prestigious studio. His career flourished with a series of hit films, and in 1937 and 1938 he won consecutive Oscars for Captains Courageous and Boys Town. By the 1940s, Tracy was one of the studio's top stars. In 1942 he appeared with Katharine Hepburn in Woman of the Year, beginning a popular partnership that produced nine movies over 25 years.

Forbes Library Coolidge Museum Video
Welcome to the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum at Forbes Library. Forbes is the public library for the City of Northampton, Massachusetts and located at 20 West Street. There is a large metered parking lot behind the building. Handicapped parking is on the exit side of the driveway and the building is fully accessible. Once inside, the Coolidge Museum is located on the second floor of the Forbes Library.
The Forbes Library is named for Charles Forbes, a lawyer and judge whose bequest built the public library which opened in 1894. Calvin Coolidge was a card holder and patron of Judge Forbes's personal collection while studying law. That early use and love for this library led him to donate materials here for public use.
The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library & Museum at Forbes Library was established in 1920 with gifts from the Northampton Republican Committee and Governor and Vice-Presidential nominee, Calvin Coolidge and items collected by Forbes Librarian Joseph Harrison. As Vice-President and President, Coolidge and Harrison continued to add items to the growing collection. Upon leaving the White House, 3 Army trucks of items, including his personal library of books, the electric horse and the Howard Chandler Christy portraits were sent directly to Forbes Library. The current Museum space was created in 1955-1956 when, acting upon the request of Grace Coolidge and the Trustees of Forbes Library, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts granted funds to establish a Calvin Coolidge Memorial Room as a separate entity within the library. Today, Forbes Library is the largest source of primary material on Calvin Coolidge.
The collections include speeches, correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, political cartoons, paintings, memorabilia, political gifts and personal papers and books. It also has a copy of the 190 reels of microfilm of the Coolidge Collection at the Library of Congress. The collections represent Coolidge as Northampton Alderman and Mayor; Massachusetts State Representative, state Senator, Lieutenant Governor and Governor; and the nation’s Vice-President and President. In addition to his political life, the personal life of Coolidge and his family from his child hood days in Plymouth Notch, Vermont until his wife’s death in Northampton are also represented throughout the collections.
Calvin Coolidge was born July 4th 1872 on a farm in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. His father was a farmer, businessman and involved in local and state politics. Calvin came to Massachusetts to attend Amherst College, graduating in 1895. He moved to Northampton to read and study law in the firm of Hammond and Field and passed the bar exam in 1897. He opened his own law practice at 25 Main Street, Northampton in 1898.
The Museum features permanent and temporary exhibits. Here are a few highlights of artifacts you will see:
Presidential Portraits of Calvin Coolidge and First Lady Grace Coolidge painted by Howard Chandler Christy in 1924.
Also from 1924, an Electric Exercise horse gifted to President Coolidge by a friend.
In 1927 the Summer White House was in Black Hills, South Dakota and the President was presented this headdress and made an honorary chief by the Sioux Nation. Here are other items gifted to the First Family that summer including peace pipes, pipe bags and moccasins.
Exhibits also include Coolidge’s time in local and state politics. Documents, scrapbooks, photographs and artifacts from his local, state and federal career and family life are available for research. Staff and volunteers also make local classroom visits and speak to community groups.
We hope you visit us in Northampton or online to learn more about Calvin Coolidge.
