Hangin in Fort Nelson, Canada! Day 12
Today was a pretty good day in Fort Nelson. We got some pretty decent sleep last night, then got up and put in a full day of work. It was pretty nice, not having to worry about getting on the road afterwards, we may be on to something here.
After work, we decided to do a little exploring. Our neighbors told us about the bike paths here, so we went off to ride some of them. Candace wanted a bell for her bike (bears), so we hit up a local bike shop and hit the trail – it was a pretty good little ride, about 10K.
After the ride, we hit up a little gym called Iron Alley – perfect for us, decent equipment, and a good workout.
This evening, we cooked some food and relaxed. May even get an episode of Game of Thrones in. Hoping to get to bed early and get some sleep.
All in all, Fort Nelson has been a pretty nice little stop. They’re well set up for travelers – great visitors center, two RV dump/water stations, a recreation center complete with pool, indoor track, and rock climbing wall, and some decent biking/hiking trails. They even have a nice little park with some water attractions for the kids!

CP Rail at Nelson BC
From what I could gather in the days we hung out around here, they are running 2 trains each way through here. We chased this train east from Castlegar (more uploads on this one later), and they tied the train down after arrival at Nelson. The station is now the local visitor center. Not much left here anymore, but glad to still find some action along the line.

Chetwynd To Get a New Visitor's Centre
The Chetwynd Visitor's Centre will be moving into a renovated version of the old municipal hall in the Spring of 2016. This big change was in part due to a $250,000 grant from Northern Development. Castlegar is one of the 2nd largest communities in West Kootenay region of the British Coumbia, Canada. Castlegar is situated in Selkirk Mountains at confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers.

Tourist Attractions in Castlegar, British Coumbia
1. Kootenay Gallery of Art, History and Science: This art gallery serves West Kootenay Region where thousands of craftspeople and individual artists make their living by creating and then selling their work.
This gallery is a non-profit institution that shows nationally and internationally, sourced regionally, works of art and offering a professional venue for the regional artists to show and then further selling of their work.
2. Doukhobor Discovery Centre: More than 1,000 artifacts showcase Doukhobor culture of early 1900’s at Doukhobor Village Museum.
It is set on the banks of Columbia River, museum’s collection includes an audio visual gallery, tools and implements, arts and crafts.
3. Castlegar Museum: This museum is housed in a railway station which is more than 99 years old, Castlegar Museum showcases life of this area from early 1900’s.
Visitors to this museum are also able to peruse museum extensive newspaper archives.
4. Kootenay River: This Kootenay River starts in the Canadian Rockies in southeastern corner of the British Columbia and then flows into Idaho and Montana before returning to the BC and joining Columbia River.
This river actually passes around 2 km of Columbia Lake but it doesn’t meet actually to the mighty Columbia till 700 km.
5. Syringa Creek Provincial Park: Syringa Creek Provincial Park is located at south end of Arrow Lakes Reservoir, this park has around 60 site campgrounds. 2 boat launches are also available, and you can also enjoy hiking trails throughout this park.
6. Cone Hill Park: Cone Hill Park provides a huge amount of grassy area which is complete with a picnic area, basketball court and playground. During winters, Cone Hill Park features this a lighting park.
7. Zinio Park: Zinio Park provides a very big playground, bathroom facilities and four tennis courts.
There is a huge grassy area for number of different activities with some picnic sites. It is one of the Tourist Attractions in Castlegar, British Coumbia.
8. Kootenay Centre Cinemas: Kootenay Centre Cinemas is one of the local Castlegar movie theatre having 6 theatres that play the newest and top movies.

We wake up early so G can get her morning waffles...Happy G Happy RV. Then we find out our camp spot not only didn't have wifi, they didn't even have the water on. Next time through we will not be staying at this camp ground! Then we explore the awesome Heritage Museum even though it was closed and make our wait to St John.

President Nelson Completes Africa Tour in Zimbabwe
“This is a sight that I shall always remember,” said President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, during a visit to Harare, Zimbabwe, Tuesday, April 17, 2018. More than 4,000 people gathered to hear President Nelson speak, including hundreds of children who sang a verse of “I Am a Child of God,” a popular Primary song, at the beginning of his address.
“These precious children, how I love them,” said President Nelson. “Help them to understand about the son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ … to know how to pray to Heavenly Father … to understand why we partake of this sacrament on the Sabbath day. … Help them to understand about prophets. … I would like to suggest that you read the scriptures to your children. … I hope you'll teach these children to be good citizens of this wonderful country.
His remarks were given at a devotional that was broadcast to congregations throughout Zimbabwe. This is his second stop in Africa and fourth destination on his global ministry tour. On Monday, President Nelson was in Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi.
President Nelson is joined on the worldwide tour by his wife, Wendy, and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Patricia.

British Columbia adds new rural communities to the immigration program.

BC Adds New Rural Communities To Entrepreneur Immigration Program.
More options available for foreign entrepreneurs wishing to set up shop in rural B.C.
Eight communities have been added to the list of those eligible for the B.C. Entrepreneur Immigration (EI) Regional Pilot program.
The EI Regional Pilot is for foreign entrepreneurs who want to establish a new business in a smaller, regional community in B.C.
Communities with less than 75,000 people located more than 30 km away from an urban centre have been participating since the program was launched in March.
The eight new additions bring the number of communities taking part in the regional pilot program to 66.
The new communities are:
• Akisqnuk First Nation
• Canal Flats
• Invermere
• Parksville
• Peachland
• Radium Hot Springs
• Regional District of East Kootenay (Area F, Area G)
• Shuswap Indian Band
Participating communities must prove that they can offer eligible entrepreneurs a network of settlement and business agencies. Community representatives must attend immigration and pilot-specific training in order to host exploratory visits for interested candidates.
Who can apply?
Prospective entrepreneurs must complete an exploratory visit to the community where they wish to set up their business. They must then present their business proposal to a community representative and receive a referral in order to register under the pilot.
When registering, candidates must submit details about their work and/or business experience, education, language ability, net worth, and information on the proposed business, among other details.
The personal net worth requirements for the pilot have been reduced compared to the Entrepreneur Immigration category. This is to reflect the lower cost of starting a business and settling in B.C.’s rural regions.
In order to be eligible candidates must:
• have a minimum of $100,000 in eligible business investments;
• have a minimum personal net worth of $300,000;
• have 3+ years of experience as an active business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last five years;
• take on a minimum of 51 percent ownership;
• create a minimum of one new job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
• have minimum proficiency in English or French equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4;
• fulfill other eligibility criteria.
Candidates will receive a score upon registration. Those with the highest scores will be invited to submit a full application to the BC PNP through monthly invitation rounds.
Applications are typically assessed within four months, and candidates may be invited to attend an in-person interview in Vancouver to discuss the details of their application.
Once approved, applicants must sign a performance agreement with the BC PNP, which outlines all the criteria needed in order to receive a nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
Successful applicants receive a work permit support letter from the BC PNP. Afterward, they can apply to the Government of Canada for a two-year temporary work permit.
Once the BC PNP determines that the terms and conditions of the performance agreement have been met, they will nominate the entrepreneur for Canadian permanent residence.
