The long awaited D5 from Suunto is finally here, and we were fortunate enough to travel on behalf of Mike's Dive Store to cover the UK press launch at Nemo 33 in Brussels, Belgium.
The overnight road trip allowed us to squeeze 2 dives in the pool at Nemo 33, giving us plenty of time to get to grips with this new unit.
The latest dive computer from the Finnish team at Suunto packs the same menu functions that can be found on the EON Core and EON Steel, but in a unit slightly bigger than their mainstream units such as the D4 & D6.
The main draw about the D5 is that this unit is a wearable watch, combined with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, making this a cross between an EON Core and a D6 in our own opinion, but with a whole host of cool new features!
The Suunto D5 comes in 4 main options:
- Black Body/Black Strap
- Black Body/Lime Strap
- White Body/White Strap
- White Body/Black Strap
The white options have the silver bezel on the face.
Weighing in at 90g, and with a depth rating of 100m the D5 will appeal to the recreational diver.
It will take tank pressure readings from 3 pods, and allows the user to customize the unit and perform software updates themselves, and has 18 language options.
The D5 differs from other models in the Suunto range because it has the option for interchangeable coloured straps (sold separately).
User-friendly and quick to remove, the straps can easily be changed for a number of options in the range, including longer straps for dry-suits, NATO style material dive straps, and even leather straps to allow you to wear the D5 as a fully functioning watch when not in the water to give it a different look and feel. We really really loved this feature!
Another big positive is the new algorithm. Suunto has released the FUSED 2 RGBM Decompression Model in the D5, in a bid to improve the dive experience of the user.
This is a huge step forward, and will definitely make this a popular dive computer/watch.
The Suunto D5 is available now for pre-order from mikesdivestore.com and will be available for general sale from March 11th 2019, which is the expected launch date.

Nemo 33 in Brussels, Belgium, is the most amazing diving pool and the deepest one in the World… Well used to be since the opening of Y-40 in Italy in June 2014. It is supposed to be 33m deep but my dive computer said 34,4m.This pool is actually equipped with a tunnel, caves with air pockets and windows looking at the bar! I hope with this video you will be able to see that diving in a pool is not necessary boring but can be really fun!

Nemo, avec une bande de copains en janvier 2012.. Eau chaude (33°), et fond de fosse sombre (pas d'images disponibles...). De la fantaisie, et voici ce que ça donne !!
Nemo 33 est la fosse de plongée la plus profonde du monde.
La plongée commence avec une apnée autour d'une voiture SMART immergée, puis descente en scaphandre au fond de la fosse, sombre car pas éclairée. Ensuite, retour à 10m, et visite des salles remplies d'air, dans lesquelles il est possible de retirer son masque, et de discuter tout en étant à -8m. Enfin, moments de jeux autour de la voiture où chacun s'essaie sans risque à une conduite subaquatique..
Durée totale de la séance : 1h (10mn d'apnée et 45mn de plongée)
Nemo 33 fournit tout le matériel nécessaire (pas de combinaison nécessaire, donc pas de plombs, gilets, détendeurs, palmes, masques sont en libre service), ordinateur obligatoire (et à la location). On peut amener ses palmes (chaussantes), son masque, son ordinateur (et son détendeur uniquement si l'ordinateur est couplé à celui-ci).
Après la plongée, déjeûner sur place, cuisine asiatique.

Voyage à Bruxelles, pour profiter du complexe NEMO33. Un espace de plongée couvert, comprenant plusieurs plateaux à différentes profondeurs et une fosse de 33 mètres de fond. Un espace restaurant est aménagé permettant aux clients de voir au travers de grands panneaux la partie aquatique. En ce moment une cloche alimentée en air est fixée à 5 mètres de profondeur, elle permet de diner sous l'eau, Homard, caviar et champagne sont au menu.
La piscine est chauffée à 33°, allusion à sa profondeur et son nom de NEMO33. La partie restauration est de grande qualité, et je vous conseille de gouter au curry.
L'espace aquatique, donne accès à différentes activités, comme la natation, l'aquabiking, mais aussi le passage de brevets de plongée.

Hello from Belgium! This week was very special for us as we celebrated both Garrett and Dorothy's birthday. Garrett and Dorothy spent a special day together and we had a small family birthday party that evening.
Garrett chose to spend his birthday week in Brussels so he could visit Nemo33 and take free diving lessons. He also collaborated with the Belgian camera company, Hugyfot. Hugyfot creates amazing underwater housings for just about any camera :
This week the whole family also enjoyed spending time at David Lloyd Brussels. Mom and dad were able to get in some great workouts while the kids took different lessons and classes. Its such a great place for families :
Belgium will always be very special to us and we plan to be back again soon!

Een dagje duiken bij Nemo 33 in Brussel, België. De eerste duik waren er zoveel duikers in het water dat het in het diepe deel te krap was. Tweede duik was het lekker rustig. Twee keer de 33 meter aangetikt bij een aangename water temperatuur van 33 graden.
