In Lanzarote, Canary islands, Spain, Museo Atlantico, Europes first underwater museum was opened at the beginning of 2016.
I was fortunate enough to be traveling the Canary Islands at the time and was able to be among the first to see the museum.

The Neo-classical square was constructed in the 18th century and is adorned with the Fountain of Neptune, designed by a Spanish sculptor - Juan Pascual de Mena. This place is located near many interesting landmarks, such as Prado National Museum, Congress of Deputies, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. It is worth visiting especially during the night, as it is beautifully lit. If you happen to be in the city when Atlético de Madrid wins a championship, this is the place where all its fans gather and celebrate together with the players. The nearest metro station is Banco de España.

Han pasado casi siete años desde que el fuerte oleaje casi tumba al emblema de Melenara, una obra de Luis Arencibia que representa al dios griego de los océanos. Hoy se culminó la restauración del brazo derecho y el tridente del coloso de bronce, un proyecto financiado con algo más de 23.000 euros por la Dirección General de Infraestructuras Turísticas del Gobierno de Canarias y que pone fin a una larga espera para volver a contemplar a Neptuno de nuevo entero y en todo su esplendor

The Fountain of Neptune is a monumental civic fountain located in the eponymous square, Piazza del Nettuno, next to Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna, Italy. Its bronze figure of Neptune, extending his reach in a lordly gesture of stilling and controlling the waters, is an early work by Giambologna, completed about 1567. An innovation of Giambologna's fountain designs is the fantastic and non-geometrical forms he gave to the basins into which water splashed and flowed, curiously folded, bulging and elastic in form, as Rosalind Grippi remarked. The fountain is a model example of Mannerist taste of the courtly elite in the mid-sixteenth century: construction of the statue was commissioned by the Cardinal Legate of the city, Charles Borromeo, to symbolize the fortunate recent election of Borromeo's uncle as Pope Pius IV.
The work was designed by the Palermitan architect Tommaso Laureti in 1563, with an over-lifesize bronze of the god Neptune on the top, executed by Giambologna, who had submitted a model for the fountain of Neptune in Florence, but had lost the commission to Baccio Bandinelli. Before the fountain was built, an entire edifice was demolished to make space for it. The fountain was completed in 1565, and the Neptune was fixed in place within a couple of years. The logo of the Maserati car company is based on the trident in this Neptune statue. In 1920 one of the Maserati brothers, the artist Mario Maserati, used this symbol in the logo at the suggestion of family friend Marquis Diego de Sterlich. It was considered particularly appropriate for the sports car company due to fact that Neptune represents strength and vigor; additionally the statue is a characteristic symbol of the company's original home city.

Playa Melenara is totally unknown to most tourists. It is just 15km from the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is well known by the locals who come here to swim play eat and drink. The coast walkway along a promenade is one of the nicest walks on the whole island.

REPARACIÓN DE LA ESCULTURA DE NEPTUNO DE MELENARA-TELDE
Los preparativos para arreglar la escultura de Neptuno, situada en el Puntón de Melenara, ya han comenzado. La maquinaria ya está en el antiguo espigón y dentro de unos minutos se desplegará todo el operativo.
