Neptune fountain, Dlugi Targ, Gdańsk, Pomeranian, Poland, Europe
Fountain of Neptune the historic fountain in Gdansk, which was established at the initiative of the Mayor Bartholomew Schachmann and the city council. It stands in the most representative part of Gdansk Long Market, at the entrance to the Artus Court. In 1549 before the Artus Court, there was also poorly known well, maybe longer with metal decorations. It was a little closer Motławy. Danzig councilors decided to build a more presentable object. As one of the first to create a new fountain James Kordes reported from Lübeck, but, inexplicably, has not received the order. The new fountain stood in the new place to viewed from the front inserted them into the center of the facade of Artus Court, from the Green Gate was visible against the walls of the City Hall and the outlet st. Long, from the street. Closed the long perspective of the Royal Route. Neptune god of the sea had to be returned to the front of the tenement, which was the seat of Polish kings during their stay in Gdansk and had to have his head bowed before them. The fountain was to be connected to underground pipes which water would be pumped from the Brook Siedlecki by operating at Market Sienny water craft, but the pressure was too low. In the years 1606-1615, works design, sculpture and casting. The project has created a figure representing Neptune architect and sculptor Abraham van den Blocke (b. 1572, d. 1628). Model figures was made by Peter Fleming Husen, because van dem Blocke not coped with the preparation of a model for casting. The sculpture was cast in bronze approx. 1615., In the city of Gdansk foundry, using the form of bell founder Gerdt Benning. The weight of the figure is 650 kg. Bowl and stem, on which stands a statue, also by Abraham van den Blocke. The canopy is made of black stone (black-and-blue Belgian marble), the core of black tuff. Architectural fountains refer to Manieristic. Water plants Ottmar von Wettner installed a new water supply system developed by Adam Wijbe. Tanks were placed on the top floor of the City Hall and the Artus Court. Initially, the fountain was open only on certain days of summer. This resulted from the need to always fill the tank in the attic, which took place in the second half of the nineteenth century, when after the founding of the modern Gdansk aqueduct and sewer connected to their fountain. Originally the fountain was colorful. It was brought before October 9, 1633, for several reasons: the reconstruction of the Artus Court, the installation leakage problems, the Thirty Years War and the death of Abraham van den Blocke. The foundation wymurował master bricklayer Reinhold de Clerk, sculptor Wilhelm Richter edited fountain. A year later the iron grille surrounds the pool, also designed by Abraham van den Blocke. The inauguration of the fountain of action took place on March 23 1634. The Mannerist in his conception of the figure of the Roman god Neptune of the seas and oceans is built based on the broken line (a reference to the figure serpentinata) is designed for viewing from all angles. Appearance sculptures indicates that the author knew the antique sculptures: the head of Neptune resembles a horse head statue of Marcus Aurelius, and the torso is perhaps a reference to the Belvedere Torso. In the years 1757-1761 John Charles Stender made a new pool and stem fragments and blacksmith James Barren completed and restored the damaged lattice. Then received a fountain ornate rococo style. In 1927, the fountain was renovated. Damaged during World War II and then disassembled for protection (taken to Parchowo k. Bytowa), canopy and base bricked bricks, was restored and re-launched on July 22, 1954. In 1954 odkuto rzygaczy reconstruction of sandstone and covered with sheet lead the inner surface of the bowl. Permanently running fountain July 22, 1957. In April, 1988., On the occasion of the annual maintenance, municipal authorities ordered Gdansk penis statue covered with a fig leaf. Last renovation of fountains, including the complete demolition of the monument and sculpture of Neptune, the renovation and installation of a modern system of water treatment and water attractions with lighting, took place from September 2011 to April 2012.

GDAŃSK FONTANNA NEPTUNA na DŁUGIM TARGU
Fontanna Neptuna, rzymskiego boga mórz -- symbol miasta portowego, jakim od zawsze był Gdańsk -- powstała z inicjatywy ówczesnego burmistrza miasta Bartłomieja Schachmanna. Fontannę zaprojektował sławny niderlandzki rzeźbiarz Abraham van den Blocke, uformował Piotr Husen, a odlali Beningsen i Wettner.

A strategic and highly influential port for nearly a thousand years, Gdańsk was a stronghold of the Teutonic Knights, and later became an influential city within the Hanseatic League during the Middle Ages.
Largely destroyed in the Second World War, Gdańsk was splendidly rebuilt in the aftermath as one of Europe's most beautiful port cities. Today, Gdańsk has a population of 460,000, and is Poland's largest northern city, drawing numerous visitors into its historic city centre, its outstanding museums, and to its expansive beaches spread along the coast of the Gulf of Gdańsk, making it a popular summer destination for many Poles and foreign visitors alike.
St. Mary's Church (Bazylika Mariacka), ul. Podkramarska 5. One of the largest brick Gothic churches in Europe and supposedly the largest brick church in the world, nearly 20,000 people can fit inside the impressive St. Mary's. Dominant over Gdańsk's skyline since its completion in 1502, St. Mary's has since become one of the iconic landmarks for the city.
Green Gate (Brama Zielona), ul. Długi Targ 24. Tu-F 09:00-16:00, Sa-Su 10:00-17:00. Situated between the Long Market and the Motława River, the Green Gate was built between 1564 to 1568 as the residence of the Polish monarchy in Gdańsk.
Golden Gate (Brama Złota). Built between 1612 to 1614 to replace an earlier 13th century city gate as the brainchild of Abraham van den Blocke, a Flemish architect who lived in Gdańsk in the early 17th century, the gate was constructed in a Dutch Mannerist style.
Żuraw Crane, ul. Szeroka 67/68, . Built between 1442 to 1444, the Żuraw is one of the best intact cranes from medieval Europe. Along with handling cargo arriving on the Motława River, the Żuraw also acted as a city gate and a defensive fortification.
Neptune Fountain (Fontanna Neptuna). Situated in the center of the Long Market, the Neptune statue dates to 1549, while the fountain originates from 1633. Hidden away and miraculously surviving World War II intact, the fountain has since become a popular meeting point in the centre of the Main Town.
Long Lane (Ulica Długa). One of Gdańsk's most popular places for tourists, the Long Lane has been one of the city's most principle streets since the Middle Ages, flanked by the Golden Gate on one end and the Green Gate on the other. All throughout the Long Lane are numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, and impressive Mannerist and Dutch-inspired architecture.

Fontanna Neptuna
Fontanna została zmontowana w 1633 r. w miejscu starej studni. Powstała z inicjatywy burmistrza Gdańska Bartłomieja Schachmanna. U stóp stojącego Neptuna trzymającego w ręku trójząb umieszczono dwie głowy konia morskiego. Posąg został odlany w 1615 r. wg modelu Piotra Husena i Johanna Rogge w Augsburgu. Czaszę, trzon i basen zaprojektował i wykonał w kamieniu Abraham van der Blocke. W 1634 r. fontannę otoczono kratą żelazną. Na zwieńczeniu jej bram umieszczono pozłacane orły, świadczące o związkach Gdańska z Koroną. W latach 1757-1761 Jan Karol Stender wykonał nowy basen i trzon, a mistrz kowalski Jakub Barren uzupełnił i odnowił zniszczoną kratę.
