Nerima Gardens - Ipswich Queensland Australia
The first stage of Nerima Gardens was opened on 17 May 2001 by former Ipswich Mayor John Nugent and Mayor Saburo Iwanami of Nerima to commemorate the Sister City Relationship between Ipswich City and Nerima City, Japan.
Nerima Gardens
Tucked away in Ipswich's gracious and historical Queens Park is Nerima Gardens - Japanese gardens designed in consultation with Ipswich's Japanese sister city, Nerima. This idyllic retreat is a wonderful way to wind down your visit to Queens Park or take a break between enjoying its other numerous attractions.
The picture-perfect self-contained gardens sit behind the historic caretaker's cottage and feature a series of winding paths through fir trees and Australian native plants - some of which are indigenous to Ipswich. There, you'll really appreciate the serenity and aesthetic beauty of the pretty flowers, and experience a model traditional Japanese tea house and a small verandah overlooking a stream. There are also boardwalks over an ornamental lake where you can feel the tranquillity of being serenaded by constant running water.
Nerima's design takes the visitor on a journey of discovery, with the lower section portraying the ocean and Moreton Bay, while the upper area represents the Ipswich region with its undulating landscape, vegetation and river.
Nerima Gardens is a welcome and relaxing haven along with Queens Park's children's playground, the Ipswich Nature Centre, Queens Park Café and the Environmental Education Centre.

Ipswich Nerima Gardens Vlog
Nerima Japanese Gardens Ipswich - November 2016
Hey Folks. Our family spent a few hours walking around the Nerima Japanese Gardens in Ipswich on the weekend. I tried to get a bit creative with the phone to give you a look at the parts of the garden I enjoy the most. Not sure if it's as creative as I thought though after editing. ???? ????
Thought it might be a pleasant 2 or so minutes of peace from the chaos of the elections in the States.
Hope you enjoy the wander through the gardens.
Rob.

Queens Park In Ipswich
For a park with the true trademark heritage feel of Ipswich, you can't go past Queens Park. One of the oldest parks in Queensland - a monument there was erected in 1864 - you can sense the history in the rocks beneath your feet and in the grand, established shady trees.
As you descend the hill entering Ipswich Central from the east, you can't help be impressed with this gracious, green expanse. The playground alone is worth a stop - with the city's coal mining history as its inspiration, the impressive design features a flying fox, fixed model train, Liberty Swing for people in wheelchairs to enjoy a ride and water pumps to cool off. You won't be able to drag the kids away.
The Environmental Education Centre is connected to the indoor-outdoor Queens Park Café, where you can satisfy your hunger cravings before heading off to the renowned Ipswich Nature Centre (opened in 1936) to view cute and furry animals such as wombats, bilbies and quolls. Nearby is the heritage-listed Incinerator Theatre, designed by Walter Burley-Griffin and home to the Ipswich Little Theatre. To complete your visit, stroll around the beautiful and relaxing Japanese Nerima Gardens.
