Borkum ist die westlichste und mit knapp 31 Quadratkilometern die größte der sieben bewohnten Ostfriesischen Inseln. Teile der Insel und das angrenzende Watt gehören zum Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer. Die Insel bildet auch die Fläche der Stadt Borkum, die als staatlich anerkanntes Nordseeheilbad über zahlreiche Kureinrichtungen verfügt.
Wie alle anderen ostfriesischen Inseln führte Borkum bis zum Aufkommen des Badewesens im 19. Jahrhundert ein politisches und zumeist auch wirtschaftliches Schattendasein in der Grafschaft Ostfriesland, die ab 1744 zu Preußen gehörte. Eine Ausnahme bildete der Walfang auf Borkum, der der Insel im 18. Jahrhundert zu einigem Wohlstand verhalf, aber 1782 eingestellt werden musste. Die darauf folgende wirtschaftliche Depression dauerte mehrere Jahrzehnte. Erst der ab zirka 1830 einsetzende Badetourismus, der ab ungefähr 1870 größere Ausmaße annahm, hat diese Situation ins Gegenteil verkehrt. Die Insel ist seitdem nahezu vollständig vom Tourismus abhängig, der den Einwohnern ein beständiges Auskommen ermöglicht
Borkum is an island and a municipality in the Leer District in Lower Saxony, northwestern Germany. It is situated east of Rottumeroog and west of Juist.
Borkum is bordered to the west by the Westerems strait (which forms the border with the Netherlands), to the east by the Osterems strait, to the north by the North Sea, and to the south by the Wadden Sea. It is the largest and westernmost of the East Frisian Islands in the North Sea, due north of the Dutch province of Groningen.
The island was formed in 1863 by two previously separate islands which were still separated by a shallow water. The seam between the former eastern and western parts is called Tüskendör (through in between).Mentioned as Burchana fabaria (island of beans) by both Strabo and Pliny the elder, Borkum by the time of Charlemagne the island was part of a larger island called Bant, which consisted of the present day islands of Borkum, Juist and the western part of Norderney.
In 1484, Bant passed to the Earls of East Frisia, who developed trade, and the island became known as a centre of piracy and whaling. By 1781, violent storms in the 1700s had led to Bant becoming three islands. As whaling decreased, the island suffered from poverty, resulting in depopulation, with the island's population falling from 852 in 1776 to 406 by 1811. The first tourists arrived on the island in 1834 and the island's fortunes improved as a tourist resort.

Und was machen wir diesmal? Beim Zwischen-den-Jahren-Törn 2018 der Seebärenbande wurde mit vereinten Kräften ein formschöner Leuchtturm in der Hafeneinfahrt von Bergvik errichtet (und anschließend wieder abgetragen).

Der Leuchtturm Campen ist der höchste Leuchtturm in Deutschland. Er steht an der Mündung der Ems in die Nordsee, nordwestlich von Emden. Der Leuchtturm Campen dient als Tagesmarke und nachts als Leitfeuer zur Fahrt durch das Randzelgat in der Westerems vor Borkum. Film: Agentur PowerLine

Am 26.09.2019 startete Christoph 26 am neuen Leuchtturm von Borkum. Der Start wurde aus 2 Perspektiven gefilmt, wobei die Perspektive vom Boden mit einem Handy aufgenommen wurde. Der Start wurde ebenfalls vom Leuchtturm aus gefilmt, was erstmalig auf Youtube ist. Die Wackler bitte ich zu entschuldigen, es war doch recht nass und windig da oben :)

Fahrradtour auf Borkum! Gefahren am 20 Sept. 2016
Ich bin die Tour auf der Insel Borkum am 20. Sept. 2016 mit dem Fahrrad gefahren. Die Strecke führt vom Oststrand Strandcafe Seeblick bis zum Nordstrand, Strandgasthof Heimliche Liebe Fisch und Ostfriesentorte.
Mit einer zügigen Fahrt mit dem Fahrrad, war ich dennoch 14 min. unterwegs.

Borkum is a nationally recognized North Sea resort with numerous spa facilities. In the center traffic blocks from mid March to the end of October and about three weeks apply to private motor vehicles of the year. There currently is the resort tax in high season 2,90 € per day. (2008) Borkum is the first time in 1227 mentioned as Borkna. 1398 - More than a hundred years later, the place in an East Frisian Urkundenbuch called Borkyn. It is also thought that the ancient scholar Pliny the Elder (23 AD -. 79 AD.) Borkum knew, because in his Historia naturalis he mentions islands off the North Sea coast and is called here the island Burcana. However, he does not comment further on the situation of the island.

Alter Leuchtturm
The 1576 funded by the Emdener Kaufmannschaft lighthouse whose pages show exactly in the four directions, the sailors served in conjunction with beacons as datum mark. By 1903 stood on the historical church Threw the island church with the cemetery, where the dead were last but buried in the year 1873rd The obtained, encircled by weathered whalebones grave stones with engraved skulls is not the last resting place of ruthless pirates, but graves Borkum whalers. When the lighthouse burned down in February 1879 the new lighthouse was being planned. Today the old lighthouse is still climbable, serves as a registry office and as an exhibition.
Neuer Leuchtturm
The new lighthouse of Borkum is one of the landmarks of the islands of Borkum. It was built in 1879 after the fire of the old lighthouse in record time. The new lighthouse of Borkum Island serves as a day mark and at night with its so-called wildfire for orientation train running before the Ems estuary waterways. The lighthouse stands on the west side of the island and has a height of 60.3 meters. In good weather, and after a not entirely effortless ascent to the tower (308 steps) you can get a wonderful panoramic view of Borkum and surrounding islands.

Eiffelturm des Nordens so wird der höchste deutsche Leuchtturm ,der Campener Leuchtturm genannt. Denn er sieht nicht nur so aus wie der kleine Bruder vom Pariser Eiffelturm, sondern er ist auch noch im selben Jahr erbaut worden. Der Campener Leuchtturm in der Nähe von Emden Ostfriesland ist ein Bauwerk mit großer Stahlkraft.
Die dreibeinige, rot-weiß gestrichene Stahlbein Konstruktion wurde nach vier Jahren Bauzeit im Jahre 1892 fertiggestellt und ist mit einer Höhe von 65 Meter der höchste Leuchtturm Deutschlands.
Das Leitfeuer Campen zeigt heute noch der Schifffahrt auf der Ems die Wege nach Emden, Leer, Papenburg und Delfzijl.

Campener de vuurtoren is een gebouw met een grote stalen motor. Hij ziet er niet alleen als het kleine broertje van de Eiffeltoren in Parijs, maar hij werd ook gebouwd in hetzelfde jaar.
De drie poten, rood-wit geschilderde stalen poot bouw werd voltooid na vier jaar van de bouw in 1892 en heeft een hoogte van 65 meter, de hoogste vuurtoren in Duitsland.
De leidende licht van de camping laat nog steeds cruise op de weg naar de Ems Emden, Leer, Papenburg en Delfzijl.
Bezoek de indrukwekkende Campener vuurtoren en genieten van het fantastische uitzicht over de crumhorns kust, op het eiland Borkum en Nederland.
Zeker een bezoekje waard!
