Hillsborough, New Brunswick & the Railroad Museum
For a challenging land adventure, go for a three-hour tour of two wild gypsum caves in Hillsborough. Special adventures await each spelunker in the bat room at the back of the south cave, where the mysteries of the underground world are revealed. The walk to the cave is long and hot, while the interior of the cave is cool, slippery and damp. The Salem & Hillsborough Railroad is a tourist railroad and museum that operates during summer months.

Hiram Creek Trestle Hillsborough NB 1875 - 2012
Hiram Creek trestle was originally built in 1875 as part of the Albert County Railway. It was part of the line from Alma to Salisbury. This eventually became part of Canadian National. It has been repaired and rebuilt several times.
In 1982 the line between Hillsborough and Baltimore was sold to a preservation group and became the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad.
The trestle was 44 feet above the road and was 209 feet long. It was curved and made entirely of wood. Each year before the start of the tourist season it was inspected by CN bridge inspectors and appropriate repairs were made.
The video shows the trestle being load tested and undergoing maintenance as well as views of the trestle from both the cab of a locomotive and from a passenger car. The S&H closed in 2004 and we see the trestle being demolished in 2012 so that the road could be widened.
The rolling stock from the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad is now housed at the New Brunswick Railway Museum in Hillsborough NB Canada.

Ex CN MLW S-12 8245 on the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad 1991 - 2001
Only 13 S-12s were built by MLW and all went to CN. This was the last model of MLW-built switcher to use the ALCO 539 engine. 8245 is preserved on the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad (now New Brunswick Railway Museum) at Hillsborough just south of Moncton NB. I was fortunate to drive this locomotive many times and am seen in the video performing the running brake test as 8245 hauls the dinner train out of Hillsborough station.
