World Culture Festival with Crown Prince of Fujairah & UAE Ministry
Address by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Al Fujairah, UAE and His Royal Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture & Knowledge Development, UAE at the World Culture Festival by Art of Living.
Transcript:
Brothers and sisters from all over the world we are brought together here today by Culture as the means with which humans reflect their diversity and experiences and the primary tributary for civilization on earth which all people share.
This huge artistic and spiritual gathering is no stranger to India, a land rich with cultures and creative diversity. It is wonderful and inspiring to witness such an enormous number of people gathered to meditate and appreciate music, singing and, folk arts. The Art of Living foundation has worked for the past 35 years through its diverse humanitarian projects to reform individuals and communities around the world through yoga, breathing techniques, and changing habits and being in harmony with healthy and spiritual life. This contributed to spreading peace and infusing positive energy in a lot of individuals and communities and for that, we are thankful to its founder and patron who brought us all together here today. All religions urge us to be ethical and treat people well, to be tolerant of others, to meditate through prayers, yoga or fasting, to care for nature and animals and to stay away from all elements of negative energy. Our religion is a consolidation of these ethics, values, and traditions that bring my people together. Any acts of isolation and an exclusion of others are not acceptable by us both in the UAE which I have the honor of belonging to or in the Arab countries. The culture of love positive energy and treating all people equally with respect is what we are trying to focus and preach for other new generations. Once again I welcome you all in the realm of humanity by which we are united. May you all have peace and mercy by the blessings of God. Thank you.

UAE: United Arab Emirates:
The United Arab Emirates sometimes simply called the Emirates or the UAE, is a country located at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing sea borders with Qatar and Iran. In 2013, the UAE's total population was 9.2 million, of which 1.4 million are Emirati citizens and 7.8 million are expatriates.Established in December 1971, the country is a federation of seven emirates. The constituent emirates are Abu Dhabi (which serves as the capital), Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. Each emirate is governed by an absolute monarch; together, they jointly form the Federal Supreme Council. One of the monarchs is selected as the President of the United Arab Emirates. Islam is the official religion of the UAE, and Arabic is the official language, although English is widely spoken and is the language of business and education, especially in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The UAE is a highly developed country with a high level of human development and is one of the wealthiest countries in the Middle East. It is also one of the world's fastest growing countries. The UAE's oil reserves are the seventh-largest in the world, while its natural gas reserves are the world's seventeenth-largest. The late Sheikh Zayed, ruler of Abu Dhabi and the first President of the UAE, oversaw the development of the Emirates and steered oil revenues into healthcare, education and infrastructure. The UAE's economy is the most diversified in the Gulf Cooperation Council, with its most populous city of Dubai emerging into a global city and international aviation hub. Nevertheless, the country remains extremely reliant on its export of petroleum and natural gas.
The UAE has been criticized for its human rights record, including the role of Sharia law in its legal system. The UAE's rising international profile has led some analysts to identify it as a regional and middle power.
Culture
Emirati culture is based on Arabian culture and has been influenced by the cultures of Persia, India, and East Africa.Arabian and Persian inspired architecture is part of the expression of the local Emirati identity. Persian influence on Emirati culture is noticeably visible in traditional Emirati architecture and folk arts. For example, the barjeel has become an identifying mark of traditional Emirati architecture and is attributed to Persian influence.
The United Arab Emirates has a diverse society.Major holidays in Dubai include Eid al Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and National Day (2 December), which marks the formation of the United Arab Emirates.Emirati males prefer to wear a kandura, an ankle-length white tunic woven from wool or cotton, and Emirati women wear an abaya, a black over-garment that covers most parts of the body.
Ancient Emirati poetry was strongly influenced by the 8th-century Arab scholar Al Khalil bin Ahmed. The earliest known poet in the UAE is Ibn Majid, born between 1432 and 1437 in Ras Al-Khaimah. The most famous Emirati writers were Mubarak Al Oqaili (1880–1954), Salem bin Ali al Owais (1887–1959) and Ahmed bin Sulayem (1905–1976). Three other poets from Sharjah, known as the Hirah group, are observed to have been heavily influenced by the Apollo and Romantic poets. The Sharjah International Book Fair is the oldest and largest in the country.
The list of museums in the United Arab Emirates includes some of regional repute, most famously Sharjah with its Heritage District containing 17 museums, which in 1998 was the Cultural Capital of the Arab World. In Dubai, the area of Al Quoz has attracted a number of art galleries as well as museums such as the Salsali Private Museum. Abu Dhabi has established a culture district on Saadiyat Island. Six grand projects are planned, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Dubai also plans to build a Kunsthal museum and a district for galleries and artists.
Emirati culture is a part of the culture of Eastern Arabia. Liwa is a type of music and dance performed locally, mainly in communities that contain descendants of Bantu peoples from the African Great Lakes region. The Dubai Desert Rock Festival is also another major festival consisting of heavy metal and rock artists. The cinema of the United Arab Emirates is minimal but expanding.Wikipedia
SCIENCE CENTER, UM AL QUMAIN EMIRATE, UAE
The project is located in emirate of Umm Al Quwain, just 40 kilometres from Dubai, The site is at the fringe of the proposed masterplan.
The programme of the project called for a hybrid of a scientific centre and a conference centre. The scientific centre would promote the sciences and inform about the latest advancements in technology. The conference centre would accommodate conferences and conventions from all over the emirates and the rest of the world. The centre includes conference rooms, library, planetarium, learning centre, lecture theatres, science exhibition spaces, restaurant-bar and shops.
The concept was the fusion of three iconic phenomena associated with the dessert, the oasis the whirlwind and the mirage. This image of the menacing and the comforting wrapped in an illusion became the antithesis that would synthesize the character of the project.
Fossil Dunes Formations- Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi
The Sand and Wind eroded rocks are quite mesmerizing. Try to cut yourself off from rest of the world and flow with the wind, as it cuts through the rocks giving it the perfect curves.
Let your imagination run wild and you might see some formations in the rocks like a camel, or a human, or the Pride Rock (from Lion King).
Do take along water and snacks as there is nothing there if you get hungry.
