Portland Maine Full Time RV (part 1) ???? | Changing Lanes!
In July 2018, we finally made it to Portland, Maine! We were excited to be meeting up with the first friends we ever made on the road (Randy & Sabrina) at Bayley's Camping Resort. Located in Scarborough, Maine, Bayley's was the most expensive campground we had been to yet! We paid about $90 a day to stay at Bayley's, which was way out of our normal comfort range! The campground would be great for families, but wasn't exactly our cup of tea…kids and chaos going on all around us. The park is huge (700 sites!) and does offer a long list of amenities - 4 pools, one adult- only pool, multiple playgrounds, activities for both kids and adults, kayaking, fishing and a huge general store with an impressive selection of beer and wine.
While in the area, we took several motorcycle rides! Our favorite ride was out to Prouts Neck Peninsula and to Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. This was our first time riding in Maine and it did not disappoint! (neither did the lobster rolls!)
We also had a blast getting to spend time with Randy & Bri and having them show us around their home state! They took us to several of their favorite places including Maine Beer Company and the LL Bean Flagship Store.
During our stay in Portland, we also had the opportunity to meet up with some other friends we met in Savannah! Tim & Marie-Claire invited us over to their home on Bailey Island for a true New England lobster dinner!! It was a treat to learn how to cook and eat a lobster properly! If you watched our Mystic, CT video, you know how clueless we were on the subject. We had a wonderful time getting to know these two better and we had a lot of laughs while learning how to eat a lobster.
When we started diving into the editing of this video, we realized how much fun we had during this trip and decided to make Portland a two-part series! We wanted to be able to share all of our experiences with you, but didn't want to put out another hour-long video!
So, stay tuned for our Portland Part 2 video coming out in a couple of weeks!! We will share the awesome experience we had on a private foodie tour from Maine Foodie Tours (our friend Randy was the guide!), we take a ferry out to Peaks Island and much more
We absolutely loved the time we spent in Maine and hope you enjoy watching it, too!

SUMMARY
=======
New England cuisine is an American cuisine which originated in the New England region of the United States, and traces its roots to English cuisine. It is characterized by extensive use of seafood and dairy products, which results from its historical reliance on its seaports and fishing industry, as well as extensive dairy farming in inland regions. Many of New England's earliest Puritan settlers were from eastern England, where baking foods was more common than frying, such as pies, beans, and turkey, as was the tradition elsewhere. Two prominent characteristic foodstuffs native to New England are maple syrup and cranberries. The traditional standard starch is potato, though rice has a somewhat increased popularity in modern cooking. New England cuisine is known for limited use of spices aside from ground black pepper, although parsley and sage are common, with a few Caribbean additions such as nutmeg. Use of cream is common, due to the reliance on dairy. The favored cooking techniques are stewing, steaming, and baking.

Plymouth MA and Marthas Vineyard | Full Time RV Living! | Changing Lanes!
June 2018 - Our New England Summer Adventure continues in Plymouth, Massachusetts!

We chose Plymouth so we could explore it’s numerous historic sites and because of it’s proximity to other attractions/cities. It’s only about 40 miles away from Boston, 19 miles from the start of Cape Cod and only about an hour away from the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard! We stayed at Pinewood Lodge, a wonderful campground with a State Park feel, large pull-through sites and a lot of amenities.

The secret behind Lobster West's Lobster Roll
Moustache Pageants Are Real - At Least in Maine They Are
HISTORY OF THE STACHE PAG
So what is the Stache Pag anyway? Well, for one thing, Stache Pag is short for Moustache Pageant, so the g is soft.
Other than that, it is, loosely, one hell of a party... that celebrates creative facial hair. The emphasis here has been on the word loose. Have a look at some of the photos from Pag's of years past (2008, 2009, 2010), or the photos on our facebook group, the popularity of which is growing at an alarming rate.
Here is some history: we started this event in 2008 on a whim. We took hold of the notion of March Madness, and incorporated the moustache--March Moustache Madness. Then, we thought (this is us thinking now, but I use quotes to note our precise thoughts):
Stachetag: Man, wouldn't it be friggin' awesome to have a moustache competition here in Portland.
Bean Sprouts: Yes, it would. A moustache pageant, if you will.
Stachetag: Yes, I will. A Stache Pag!
Together: HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
So these telepathic musings led to actually talking about the event. A principal notion of the event was to spread the stache love around between many local venues. Year one we picked on the Flask Lounge. Packed the place, 35 contestants, couldn't walk without spilling your drink. No nudity, though.
Year two it was Novare Res. Loudest place I think I've ever been (except for the grand re-opening of the State Theater with My Morning Jacket... that actually hurt). Christ, I had to leave due to the ringing in my ears. 44 contestants. Again, you could NOT move in that place. I wouldn't be shocked to hear it hasn't been that full since. Still, no nudity.
Year three, we knew we had to step it up. To the Empire Dine and Dance we took the show, and what a show it was! 66 contestants, 314 paid spectators, holy shitballs! The Green Room was hopping, the yeast-flavored soda was flowing, and the crowd was intense. Fully. We hired a camera crew, we sold t-shirts, we gave the contestants their own row. There was blood (that guy got kicked out), sweat (everywhere!) and tears (dude, it's cool, I thought you should have won too, but you could be this year's winner!). But still, most clothes remained in tact.
In 2011, we took over Portland's newest favorite bar: Bayside Bowl. What's great about Bayside is that many of the bartenders and staff already have a rich history of being stachetastic in their own way. To learn more about that, go to Bayside Bowl, pull up a pint, and engage one of these fine gentleman and ask them about their relationship with the moustache.
Last year, in 2012, agreeing with Stache groupies united (a nonprofit yet to be formed?), we needed a bigger venue, so we shot for the heart of the arts district in Portland: Port City Music Hall. We initiated VIP entry, incorporated a film festival, added a full-on catwalk, and hooked DJ Tim D up to PCMH's state-of-the-art sound system. The result? Nearly 500 tickets sold (about 65 percent of those to women), and the place was veritable moustache petting zoo... with beer.
In 2013, we make a triumphant return to PCMH to sell that place out. With the help of Creative Content Partners on the event planning, we're not so sure what this year's Pag will bring, but this moustache train is picking up speed. Care to come along for the ride?

BARE USA MA - Abandoned Places in MA - Belchertown State School

Massachusetts didn't offer me a plethora of abandoned locations, but maybe I was just looking in the wrong places. In the end it didn't matter though because luck was on my side. The first location I scouted was the best location and this was a good thing because all the other locations didn't work out.
My first stop was the Belchortown State School for the Feeble Minded and as you can tell by the name it was not the most inviting place to visit. The Belchertown State School was founded in 1922 and reports say that for most of its existence the school was a terrible place for its mentally handicapped and physically challenged patients. It was eventually shut down in 1992, brought to its knees by a number of high profile lawsuits. Some accounts report that staff routinely pulled teeth from patient's mouths to make feeding easier and as if that wasn’t enough, patients were known to be left in there own urine and feces soaked clothes for days. Today, Belchertown State School is known as one of the most haunted locations in Massachusetts.
I didn't know the history at the time I explored the campus but in hindsight this is something I was thankful for. First I checked out the main auditorium, it was exactly what I was looking for. Entry was easy on account of the boards being pulled off the main entrance. And a lot of the roof had caved in letting plenty of natural light through to the rooms below.
Next I explored what appeared to be Belchortowns hospital complex. All the windows were tightly boarded up making the inside pitch black. I think I'm a pretty adventurous guy, but wandering down the halls of an abandoned hospital was very uncomfortable. You can see in my footage that I rushed this exploration a bit passing each room hoping not to catch a glimpse of something unnatural out of the corner of my eye.
For the most part, the rest of the campus was very well boarded up minus a few houses and other buildings I could access but in the end auditorium provided everything I needed and more.
I knew this shoot was going to be special as I had the pleasure of working with not just one but two models, Arie and Rylie. They both brought a unique style and a natural beauty that contrasted nicely with they surrounding environment helping me to produce some amazing photos.
When leaving the complex we were approached by an officer who asked if we had been in the facility and told us that we were not allowed to be back there. He also asked if there were others there and I said I could not speak for anyone else. As for myself, well, I guess this video will serve as my confession.

Anna Cummins | More Ocean, Less Plastic || Radcliffe Institute
The problem of plastic pollution in the oceans is now a recognized threat to the health of our global marine ecosystems. More complex, however, is coming up with solutions to this ubiquitous plague.
5 Gyres has spent the last seven years surveying plastic pollution across the world’s subtropical gyres, oceanic systems that concentrate floating debris. The goal of their research is to use science to drive solutions to plastic pollution. This lecture describes the recent science on microplastics and shares some of the current solutions in policy, innovation, and citizen engagement.
