Follow me, Sancista Brujo Luis; around Salem Massachusettes, Holloween Day 2015, as I go through one of my fave cities in Massachusettes. Often known as the Wiccan Capital of the United States, it has become one of my most traveled cities to be around in October and celebrate, Holloween, Día de los Muertos and Samhain. Watch a Pagan Wiccan, Witches Circle, and Procession and some beautiful sites of this lovely coast side New England City. Listen to the beautiful drums played by Dragon Ritual Drummers.
The Witch trials were started by some Voodoo games taught to the young girls of Salem by a young Woman from Barbados named Tituba, and with the recent growth of Hispanics and Haitians to Salem, it's beginning to come full circle as Botanicas are springing all over the City, and Vodou, Santeria and Espiritismo has been seeing a growth in the once predominantly Witch City of the United States. Ceremony held by Salem ' s Warlock Christian Day, hmm wonder why Laurie Bruno was not pressent, I heard Laurie Cabot was up there in age. Hope you all enjoy.

[TRANSCRIPT]
The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by Puritan English settlers in 1628. Their land grant was sponsored by The Massachusetts Bay Company and stretched from present day Boston, up to southern New Hampshire, and over to western Massachusetts.
These colonists were devout followers of Puritan Christianity. They implemented a Theocracy, which means a “religious government.” Their intention was to create a strong, Godly community, but the consequences of theocracy were devastating. The Puritan’s story inspires us to ask: How did such pure intentions drive a community into mass hysteria, and result in events that community leaders would ultimately profoundly regret?
John Winthrop was the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and a renowned English lawyer. His called his vision of the Puritan society a “city upon a hill.” Because Puritans enacted a Theocratic government, town life was centered around meeting houses. At these meeting houses, the community would gather for prayer services and hold town meetings to vote for representatives or make other political decisions.
Not long after settlement, it became clear that certain members of the community were not willing to submit to the restrictions of Puritan law.
Roger Williams, a well known theologian and scholar, was one of these individuals. Williams believed strongly in the tenets of a separated church and government as well as religious freedom. This, of course, did not sit well with Puritan leaders, and in 1636 Williams fled the colony and founded Providence Plantation, which would eventually become Rhode Island.
Anne Hutchinson, who was a student of Roger Williams, was another famous dissenter. In 1637, Hutchinson was put on trial for contempt and sedition. She defended herself forcefully, but inevitably she was convicted and banished. She followed Roger Williams to Rhode Island.
By the late 1600s, the situation in the colony had reached a fever pitch. When a young girl named Abigail Williams and a group of her friends began to complain of odd pains and suffer from strange neurological fits, the townspeople believed that witchcraft was to blame. Three women were held accountable: Sarah Goode, Sarah Osborne, and a native slave named Tituba. Coincidentally, all three of these women were considered either “outsiders” or “dissenters” by the people of the village.
The fear of witchcraft spread like wildfire, and suddenly allegations of black magic began to spring up everywhere. Over an 18 month period between 1692 and 1693, accusations of witchcraft were leveled at countless different people. Of all of those accused, twenty were executed by hanging, except for one man who was crushed to death with stones.
In later years, those who conducted these trials and condemned the supposed witches to death would express regret for their actions. In hindsight, the situation had been motivated by political and social strife, and not by black magic at all.
The events of the Massachusetts Bay colony were formative to the development of the United States. Learning from the mistakes of theocracy taught our forefathers the importance of the separation of church and state. The witchcraft scare of the late 1600s showed us that due process of the law as well as evidentiary processes are a vital component to a just society.
Despite the horrifying events that unfolded in Massachusetts, we can say that we learned from those terrors and moved forward to create a more fair and equitable society.

[HD] Halloween at Salem Massachusettes, Oct 2013
Halloween 2013
I have always wanted to visit Salem, Massachusetts. It has a rich history for USA and also for persecution. Religious persecution was the very reason Salem was set up (I've included some background information on Salem below). The original settlers of Salem left England to escape religious persecution. The tenants of their faith did not match the mainstream of England. They wanted to be far apart from Catholicism. They endured many hardships and loss to sail from England to the American colonies in search of religious freedom. In the end, instead of enjoying freedom of religious practice in the new found land in America, they started persecuting their own who were different.
I've always been fascinated by Salem because of it's legacy for witches. Witches are not the evil hags we see in movies but they practice a proper religion that balance nature, the earth, energies, planets and needs with their prayers. Witches, magic and it's true meaning has been distorted by mainstream fear and ignorance. I came across some psychics and practicing witches while in Salem and they are intelligent, open and warm people. Of course there are 'evil' witches but there are 'negative' people everywhere in all faiths. Religion doesn't necessarily makes us better unless we internalize compassion, wisdom, tolerance and transformation.
There are many museums, boutiques, magic shops, gift shops and places of interest related to it's rich witch history. Believe me they were very interesting. The witch persecution reminds everyone that we cannot persecute anyone on the basis of their religion, race, culture, economic background and beliefs and that is wrong. Freedom is what everyone cherishes. We visited most of the places of interest, but you have to be here during October. During Halloween Salem just takes off. There are many activities and tourists from all over the world just flock to Salem. So many international and interesting people and animals. So many doggies in Halloween costumes too. After Halloween then Salem is quite sedate. You really have to make it here during the whole month of October and then you will see many events. Educational, fun and interesting but it will open your eyes to new ideas. I enjoyed it and learned also.
We went to the museums, plays, presentations and even a authentic witch casting a spell for good luck. We did not participate in the spell casting but simply observed to learn. There was a witches' gathering in town centre but it was rained out last minute. There are a few famous witches and psychics in Salem that are known nationally and are on media and news. There were more psychic shops at every other corner and street than 7-11 stores! The Salem police insignia is a witch riding on a broom. Interesting.
We arrived a few days before Halloween and the town was busy and on Halloween itself. On Halloween, I wore my monk robes and walked around Salem among the throngs of people. There were so many people from many countries but it was not an uncomfortable crowded scene. People were warm, friendly and very open. All the street with magic shops, shows, bookstores, psychic readers (there are many psychic shops and psychics), psychic fairs, gifts, foods, stalls were colourful and lined with people from all walks of life. Every window and many houses had very interesting Halloween decorations. I enjoyed seeing the decorations very much. There are huge stores dedicated to just Halloween costumes too! Almost everyone was in unique Halloween costume. I just stood and breathed in the autumn crisp air taking in the sights, sounds, smells and rich history. I also purchased some vintage very old books to gift people with these items. Some people would appreciate these vintage classic books from Salem. I have not celebrated Halloween since leaving New Jersey when I was 15!! Halloween is my favourite holiday. It always has been. I was glad to be in Salem.
Well I had very interesting reactions from various persons on the crowded streets. I had some people who folded their hands when I walked by. One lady said Tashi Delek to me which is Tibetan for greetings. Another group were guessing out loud and we can hear them talking among themselves asking if I am wearing a costume or a real monk? One guy passed me and said to me awesome costume! I replied thank you! I saw people taking pictures of me thinking I didn't see them doing so but I did. It was fun and that is what I expected. People to wonder if what I am wearing was me or a costume!
Seng Piow and Andrew who are with me were a great help and we went everywhere together. It was great experience for them as they have never been to this part of the world and during Halloween. Andrew lugged all of our bags and Seng Piow videoed everything for my blog. These two are a great help for me. I appreciated it very much.

Salem Massachusetts on Halloween
Awesome place but not witch history museum
S A L E M
We went to Salem, Massachusetts for my cousin's pre-bachelorette party and also to spend some bonding experiences with each other. We went to various museums and attractions there, like the following:
0. Hawthorne Hotel (#1 Haunted Hotel in Salem)
in room 612 (the 2nd most haunted room in the hotel)
1. Salem Witch Museum
2. Witch Dungeon Museum
3. St. Patrick's Church
4. Witch House (or Corwin's House)
5. Witch Shops (such as Hex, Coon's, & Coven's Cottage)
6. The Burying Point Cemetery (2nd oldest cemetery in Salem)
7. Patrick Dougherty's Stickwork
8. Wynott's Wandshop (which looks like Olivander's Wand Shop from Harry Potter)
9. Salem Night Tour
10. Idk what its called but its the oldest cemetery in Salem, we took pictures and screamed in the dead of the night like little wusses.
Happy fun times.
SMILE ALWAYS! :)
