Kezmarok (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kezmarok in Slovakia.
Kežmarok is located in the north east of Slovakia in front of the fabulous scenery of the High Tatra. The town’s fifteenth century Gothic castle is located at the edge of the Old Town and its external walls form some sections of the city wall. At the beginning of the sixteenth century it was owned by the Thököly family and was given its present day splendour in full Renaissance style. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Kežmarok was a centre of rebellion against the Viennese Emperor. Its Baroque castle chapel is a fine building and was renovated in 1658 at the time of the Protestant Oppression. The castle survived the changing times and is one of the town’s main attractions. In the centre of the old town is the Roman Catholic Holy Cross Basilica with its white façade and tall church tower. Gothic and Renaissance dominate its rich interior. The altars and murals, with figures of the story of the Passion, are one of Slovakia’s most valuable works of art. The highlight is the basilica’s main wing altar that features Christ. The town’s Evangelical-Lutheran congregation had the New Protestant AB Church built between 1872 and 1894. Later followed the annexing of a mausoleum for Imre Thököly, who stood up for religious freedom. It was built according to an unconventional design by Danish architect, Theophil Hansen, who featured Byzantine, Romanesque, Moorish and Oriental elements. Next to it is one of the most beautiful articular churches in Slovakia. The churchs’ treasures include one of the oldest wooden pipe organs, a baptismal font, and splendid altar. These were the directives issued within the framework of the Counter-Reformation of 1681: the Articularies. Built at their own cost, completely made of wood, without a stone foundation and within twelve months, this extraordinary building is one of Kežmarok’s most prized buildings.

Kežmarok, Slovakia, Prešov region, Kežmarok district, town Kežmarok
Podtatranské and the town of KEŽMAROK has always been a center of education in Spiš and a starting point for exploring and exploring the High Tatras.
KEŽMAROK (17,100 inhabitants) is one of the cities with a long and famous history. The location below the Tatra Mountains makes it one of the centers of summer and winter tourism. Especially when it comes to summer days, it is the center of the European Folk Craft Festival.
HISTORY
Medieval Kežmarok was created by the merger of three original settlements into one whole. In 1269, he received city privileges and in 1348 it was protected by city walls.
The favorable economic development of the city at the end of the 17th century is confirmed by the presence of 21 guilds. The tradition of the keen drapers and linen fabrics of Kezmarok, who sold their goods in Greece and Albania, was followed by the first factory in Kezmarok - a mechanical spinning mill and weaving mill founded in 1860. In 1884, a flax processing plant followed, and in 1901 a weaving mill.
MONUMENTS
Sights in the historic city center are part of the city's conservation area.
The tour of the town can be started at the building of the Kezmarok Town Hall, which dominates the Main Square. Hradná Street brings visitors to Kežmarok Castle, which acquired its Renaissance appearance after extensive reconstruction between 1572 and 1624.
St. Basil's Basilica The crosses were built in the 14th century on the site of an older Romanesque chapel. In its neighborhood, the Renaissance bell tower, the oldest and most beautiful in Spiš, dates back to 1568.
Kežmarok's pride is also the evangelical wooden articular church. It was built in 1717 to an older stone sacral building dating back to 1593, which today forms its sacristy. This unique yew and red spruce wood structure was built without the use of a single piece of metal. The baroque interior of the church is also made of wood. Especially very valuable is the church organ with wooden whistles.
TRIP TIP
The tour of Kežmarok can be ended by climbing the Jerusalem Hill on the eastern edge of the city, from where there is a nice view of Kežmarok framed by the breathtaking silhouette of the Tatras.

Saint Matthew's ELCA Slovak Church In Mount Carmel PA 17851
VIDEO LINK OF Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church 10:45 Am Every Sunday With The Word And The Sacrament Church History Formerly: Saint Matthew's (Slavic) Slovak Church, Lutheran and Calvinist Church Location: 301 W Avenue (NW corner of Mt. Carmel Avenue and Poplar Street) In Mount Carmel PA 17851
Organized: Present structure built: 1888 Status: Active Notes: organized by Lutherans of Slovakian descent In Full Member Of: The Slovak Zion Synod And Part Of The Full Member Of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Worldwide The History Of The Slovak Zion Synod is one of the 65 synods that make up the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is the only non-geographic synod in the ELCA, the only ELCA synod to have a congregation in Canada, and the only synod defined by its mission and outreach, instead of geography.[2][3] The synod was founded by Slovak immigrants in 1919 as the Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Zion Synod and joined with the United Lutheran Church in America, remaining as a separate synod in that denomination.[4] The policy continued when the ULCA merged into the Lutheran Church in America (1962) and later the ELCA (1988).The synod has congregations located in Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada.[5] The Rev. Wilma S. Kucharek is currently bishop of the Slovak Zion Synod, elected in 2002. She succeeded the Rev. Juan Čobrda (1993 - 2002) who succeeded the Rev. Kenneth E. Zindle.[6] Kucharek was re-elected to a second term as Bishop on June 28, 2008, by the annual assembly, and re-elected again to a third term on November 17, 2014, by the same governing body.[7] In the 2009-2010 year, the Slovak Zion Synod observed and celebrated its ninetieth anniversary of establishment. Synod assemblies Every year, the synod's largest legislative body convenes to govern the church body. The assembly typically consists of plenary sessions focused on business, enrichment and worship.Over the past few years, synod assemblies have been held at many of the synod's own churches in order to establish a stronger relationship and understanding between the congregation and its own accomplishments through the greater church expressions of the Slovak Zion Synod and the ELCA. Synod Assemblies have consistently seen a drop in cost to congregations due to ongoing efforts to discover more economic venues for the body.Video By Mr: Kyle Schu Have A Most Blessed Easter All ! Trnava (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Trnava in Slovakia.
Trnava, in south west Slovakia, is well-protected by a three kilometre-long city wall. Under the protection of the sturdy wall, the monastery and church of Holy Jakobus were created in the fourteenth century with the support of the House Of Anjou. The monastery complex was then considered to be one of the largest religious buildings in the country and served as a place in which God could unite the world. The new city centre contains an imposing Neo-Classical theatre and a tower that was built in 1574. From a height of twenty-nine metres, those in the watchtower were able to warn of any threat of fire. The Jewish synagogue was built in 1831, badly damaged during the Second World War and then neglected for several decades. It now contains a cafe, and women's gallery, along with a permanent collection of Judaica. For centuries, the two towers of the Saint Nikolaus Basilica have characterised the city’s silhouette. Built over a period of nineteen years on the foundations of a Romanesque church, it was completed in 1440. Gothic frescoes still adorn its entrance hall and Baroque altars recall the splendour of a then-flourishing religious city. The colossal wall paintings on both sides of the sixty metre long main nave depict scenes of Christian history. Trnava is a true gem of Renaissance and Late Baroque.

Skanzen Vlkolinec (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Skanzen Vlkolinec in Slovakia.
Seven hundred metres above sea level, herds of sheep graze peacefully on the slopes of the Great Fatra, the location of almost hidden and forgotten, Vlkolínec, a unique village in the heart of Slovakia’s Liptov region. Today, the vibrant village is tantamount to being an open-air museum. Since 1977 the characteristic blockhouses of Central Slovakia have been listed as historic monuments. A small museum within a farmhouse at the entrance to the community provides an insight into the village life of 1886. In front of the houses are small flower and vegetable gardens, well-cared-for by the farmers’ wives. The houses have gabled saddle roofs and are covered with wooden shingle. For the winter months, firewood is piled against the walls. The village was first mentioned in 1376. Its name was derived from the Slovakian location of Vlk, which means Wolf, a fitting name for this isolated mountain settlement as it was a reference to the former duty of the villagers to build and maintain wolves’ holes. On the outskirts is the picturesque church of the Visitation Of Virgin Mary, built in 1875, a single-nave, Neoclassical building with an adjoining tower and sacristy. It is a sacred building of the Christian church, in the past the only place for social life within the region’s harsh environment. Vlkolĺnec, a place inhabited by wolves!

The Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem with the most beautiful stained Glass Windows

In terms of the formation of a congregation, the Lutheran Christmas Church is the oldest Lutheran church in Palestine. It was formed in 1854 by German missionaries, which means the ministry is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. In 1886 the construction of the sanctuary of the Evangelical church was begun by the Germans. Some Americans of German origin, living in Philadelphia, PA, gave financial help. The church was completed in 1891 but could not be used for worship until it received a permit from the ruling government in Istanbul, seat of the Ottoman Empire. In 1893 Empress (Kaiserina) Augusta Victoria of Germany (wife of Emperor [Kaiser] Wilhelm II) visited Istanbul because there was a relationship between Germany and the Ottoman Empire. She was able to obtain the necessary permit for the Bethlehem church. The sanctuary was dedicated in 1893. The actual permit document exists today in the church; it is beautiful, written in the Ottoman script. In 1893 the church name was Evangelical Christmas Church (it was connected to the Lutheran and Reformed traditions). Not until 1947, through the efforts of Lutheran World Federation (LWF), did the church become named and recognized solely as a Lutheran church. The official name of the church since 1947 is the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church.
History of the Sanctuary
The windows in the church came from the Emperor Stained Glass Factory in Germany. They are in a unique style, similar to German windows, and made to reflect the Bethlehem and Holy Land environment. In the church chancel, at the front, are three windows depicting the Christmas story, complete with angels, shepherds and the Holy Family. At the left, in a shallow, rounded chapel, are three windows showing the life of Christ until his baptism, including the flight to Egypt, portraying Jesus and his family as refugees. This picture is particularly pertinent and poignant for the congregation of today because two-thirds of the people re refugees themselves. At the right, in another shallow, rounded chapel, are three windows portraying Jesus' passion and resurrection, with the crucifixion in the center window. The remaining windows in the main church are related to Bethlehem's biblical history and landscape.
Windows made by this factory in this style have been used around the world, but today the Bethlehem windows are the only ones to survive in total. This is an amazing fact for two reasons:
The church was bombed in the 1967 war and the roof and ceiling were damaged; and
The church was in the middle of fierce Israeli shooting and bombing in 2002.
People were under curfew in their homes and could hear glass breaking everywhere. Pastor Raheb, who lives with his family in the parsonage on the church compound, also could hear glass breaking and feared it was the stained glass windows. No one could get out to check until a few days later. When Pastor Raheb finally went into the church he was astounded and grateful to see that all the windows were unbroken and intact. There is one small hole in the red robe of a person in the left chapel windows, which is hardly noticeable but serves as a reminder of the frightening chaos and the damaging attacks in 2002.
