LAUNCESTON STEAM RAILWAY 31 JULY 2016 Part 3
In Part three we have a look around the New Mills Farm Park at the end of the railway line, before taking the train back to Launceston in Part 4.
Launceston Steam Railway, July 2019
After my night camping my second day begins with a journey across the border into Cornwall, there we arrive at the Launceston Steam Railway. The Launceston Steam Railway runs for two and a half miles from Launceston to Newmills, where there is an independent farm park, along the trackbed of the North Cornwall Railway. In addition to the journey on the railway, we take a look around the transport museum at Launceston station, with a mix of rail and road vehicles on display.
The Launceston Steam Railway offers a family friendly day out, and when combined with the Farm Park gives plenty for young children to do.

Launceston Steam Railway 2019
I visited the Launceston Steam Railway whilst on holiday in North Devon. A very interesting narrow gauge railway that operates with restored Victorian steam locomotives and coaches. It runs between Launceston and New Mills (where there is a Farm Park). Well worth a visit but note that it only runs on certain days and the gates don't open until 30 mins before the scheduled departure of the first train. Nice café and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Launceston Steam Railway
A summer holiday visit to the lovely Launceston Steam Railway. This line runs along a former standard gauge North Cornwall line along a 2.5 mile stretch from Launceston to New mills here there is a farm park for the kids to enjoy while the loco runs around and prepares for the return. The line has 4 Quarry Hunslet locos Velinheli, Covertcoat, Dorothea and our loco on this day Lilian all locos are beautifully restored. A must for any narrow gauge fan.

Newport - Launceston Cornwall
Down in the valley, below Launceston Castle lays Newport. Here the River Kensey flows through beautiful countryside and the steam train puffs on the line to Newmills. The tranquillity of the area belies its importance in both Launceston and Cornwall's history.

Western Meadows Glamping - dog-friendly glamping in Cornwall | AD Press Trip
Take a tour of Western Meadows Glamping near Launceston where we experienced a weekend glamping in Cornwall. We were invited by Classic Glamping to stay at this luxury, dog-friending camping site from where we enjoyed at day out at New Mills Farm Park.
We got the warmest of welcomes from Mike the site owner who showed us to our safari glamping tent, Campion, which sits at the far end of the large sloping field (about 100m from the car park), opposite a small play area and trampoline. The site is well established with lots of plants growing up around the tents, which are pitched facing north and down the hill.
Western Meadows Glamping offers dog-friendly camping, with four-legged friends welcome to wander in the field under close supervision from their owners. Tin Box Dog brought her own bed and bowl, and as long as she didn’t venture near the human beds or seats was most welcome in our safari tent too.
When Sunday rolled around we were all agreed that we’d had a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

Hi there, I’m Claire – a mid-30s mummy to a busy primary schooler and smiley toddler, and wife to a Royal Navy Officer.
Tin Box Traveller is a UK family travel blog that I use to share our adventures and inspire others to explore new places. I’ve been a wanderer from the day dot. Some of my earliest memories are from living in Hong Kong while my dad was working there until I started school.
Back in the UK my weekends and holidays as a pre-teen and teen were spent caravanning all over the UK. So it’s no surprise that exploring the great outdoors and new places are two of my biggest passions. Meet the rest of the team:

Panshanger cow sale catelogue released
Two younger age groups have been added to the Panshanger Estate annual cow catalogue in readiness for its Auctions Plus sale on April 17th.
The renowned Smithton-based Angus herd, which boosts 27 years of exclusive Lawsons-blood genetics through the Stud’s sire-mate breeding program, is being offered to coincide with Tasmanian Angus week celebrations.
Hosting agent Ian Richards, Richards Livestock, Launceston said the Panshanger offering is a good deal larger than previously.
The catalogue he said contains 292 head of superb quality 2008 to 2011-drop Lawson-blood cows, which are pregnancy-tested in calf to Lawson’s Ultimate sire-line bulls for a mid-July to September calving.
Panshanger principal George Mills will introduce more heifers into his breeding herd this year Mr Richards said, which has allowed the two younger age groups to be released.
Prepared for sale in single-deck load lots, Mr Richards said the herd has been rigorously classed for soundness and will represent an outstanding opportunity to purchase proven breeders in the prime of their life.
The herd reared 96 percent of its calves in less than ideal conditions on Tasmania’s northwest coast this year, and has also recorded no cow losses, he said.
The Panshanger catalogue will commence selling at 9.00 EST and will also contain an additional 59 head suited for processing.
