PETERHOF PALACE ST PETERSBURG - Is it worth it?
Peterhof or Catherine Palace?
Katie and I visited Peterhof Palace today in St Petersburg. It was a nice visit with amazing fountains to see. But when it comes to a palace to visit, we found Catherine Palace to be much more impressive overall. While they are both beautiful and the gardens at Peterhof are much more elaborate (with the fountains), our preference between the two is Catherine Palace. Not that a Peterhof Palace tour isn't worth the visit, but it really depends on how much time you have to visit the city sights.
Stay tuned for our thoughts on the other city top sights in our St Petersburg Travel Guide and Russia Travel Guide video series!

A Walk Around Baltic Railway Station, St. Petersburg, Russia
St. Petersburg-Baltiysky is a railway station in St. Petersburg, one of the busiest railway stations in Russia by volume of suburban traffic.
The station was modelled by architect Alexander Krakau after Gare de l'Est in Paris. Construction started in 1854. The station was opened on 21 July 1857 as the Peterhof railway station.
The station retains a glass roof over the terminal platforms and is flanked by two-storey wings. The left one used to be reserved for members of the Russian royalty who went to their palaces in Strelna, Peterhof, Oranienbaum. A glass panel on the façade still features the original clock, designed by Pavel Bure, a celebrated watchmaker to the tsar and the ice-hockey players' ancestor.
In 1872, after the railway line was extended to Reval (Tallinn), the Peterhof railway station was renamed to its present form. In 1931–32, the station was reconstructed. A nearby vestibule of the Baltiyskaya Metro Station was opened in 1955. Since 1933, the station has been used to handle suburban communications only.

Peterhof Palace Grotto Exit
The grotto (and other parts of the palace property) has several tricks like this where water spouts when you move near certain spots.
PETERHOF WATER GARDENS, near St. Petersburg, Russia (slideshow)
Peterhof (Petrodvorets), at the suburbs of Saint Petersburg, near the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea), is a complex comprising a palace, cottages and magnificent water gardens. It was built under the orders of Tsar Peter I, the Great, according to a plan originally conceived by Jean-Baptiste Le Blonde; that is why the style is French for the sake of challenging the gardens of Versailles (France). The climax is the spectacular Grand Cascade (1715-1724), having 37 golden coated bronze sculptures, 64 fountains and 142 water streams. It commemorates the triumph of Russia over Sweden, in Poltava (1709), symbolically represented by the statue of Samson killing a lion, placed in the center of the main pool. (September 10, 2010.)
Trans Trip - Day 2 - StPetersburg (Peterhof)
On day 2 of our trans siberian adventure we visited the Peterhof, palace of Peter the Great
Russia
My visit to Russia begins along the Baltic Sea in Saint Petersburg. Saint Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city as well as its cultural capital. The Historic Center of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next I continue on to Moscow, Russia's capital and most populous city. Here I visit historic Red Square and the Kremlin. The Video concludes with my visit to the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergii in Zagorsk.

Celebrating Russia's Win | Peterhof Palace | St. Petersburg | Indian in Russia Travel Vlog 6
In the previous Vlog you saw me reaching St. Petersburg Russia. Just after my arrival, my couchsurfing host took me to FIFA fanfest where I witnessed the epic Russia Vs Spain. Luckily and unexpectedly, Russia won the match and Russians were out on the streets to celebrate the win. The next day I visited Peterhof Palace. It's not very far from the city. They charge you an entrance fee of 900 rubles for Peterhof Palace and garden visit. With lustrous golden structures sprawling here and there along with a giant fountain in the middle, it's a dramatic but good place to be at!
