Avaliação de New Town Hall no TripAdvisor (
Avaliação de Lighthouse and Bavarian Lion Sculpture no TripAdvisor (
Imagem que identifica esta pequena cidade. O farol e o leão definem a entrada do porto.

Walk around Lindau, Germany
Lindau is a very picturesque historical lakeside town located at the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German) with its historic heart being that of an island connected to the mainland by a road bridge and a railway embankment in a rather similar, but much smaller, way to Venice. The German Tourist Organisation recently placed the town in seventh position in a table of places worth visiting in Germany. Lindau is the most popular tourist attraction in the south of Germany with around 800,000 visits per year. Lindau is famous for its architecture and outdoor attractions such as cycling, sailing, hiking, swimming, camping and boat trips on Lake Constance.
The coat of arms of the town is a lime tree, sometimes called also a linden tree as in German, hence the name. It is said that the lime tree was introduced to England by Lindau native Sir John Spilman who was jeweller to Queen Elizabeth I and introduced the first paper mill to that country.
Lindau may have been occupied in Roman times but the first use of the name Lindau was documented in 882 by a monk from St. Gallen, stating that a nunnery had been set up on the island. In 1275 Lindau became an Imperial Free City which it remained until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1802. In 1805 it became part of Bavaria. The town is fortunate to have survived wars and fires so well that we can today marvel at five hundred year old architecture and still see and walk along the fortifications.
To visit the town, I stayed at the Gitzenweiler Hof campsite which is located around 6km from the centre of the town and which is easily accessible via a bus service which runs every thirty minutes, or, if you are feeling up to it, there is a walk past the forest and vineyards along the southern slopes leading to Lake Constance. The campsite itself is also historical, as the Gitzenweiler Hof was mentioned for the first time in 1384 and a 300 year old mansion still stands today. In the 14th century the Knight Ulrich lived in Ebersberg and in 1384 he sold his court with several other goods to a citizen of Lindau, Heinrich Sürg, according to the records in the Stadtarchiv Lindau. At the end of the 15th century the estate belonged to the mayor Hans Dehler of Lindau. In the sixteenth century, peasants asked the then lord of the manor, Dietrich Hurlewangen to back them in the peasant revolt. In the 18th century Daniel von Heyder resided at Gitzenweiler on the estate. His brother, the Wuerttemberg council and consul of Lindau, Gottlieb Heyder, handed over the manor of Gitzenweiler of an Anna Günther. When the Heyder family was raised to the aristocracy, they wrote from Heyder to Gitzenweiler. The original coat of arms can be seen in the Lindau Old Town Hall.
Gitzenweiler Hof campsite near Lindau, Germany
This campsite is located in the countryside around 7km from the centre of Lindau in a very pleasant countryside setting with a great deal of birdlife nearby. Bordered by forests and vineyards and a short walk away from great views over Lake Constance and the Alps beyond, it is an excellent location for cycling with the benefit of a cycle way right outside the main entrance. The location is easily accessible by motorway and the town of Lindau is easily accessible via a regular twice an hour urban bus which is free to those staying at the campsite. Another feature of the campsite is the very varied cultural and entertainment programme which runs from April to September every day except Sundays. The campsite itself is open throughout the year.
On site there is an Italian restaurant run by an Italian chef which can seat over 200 people and offers a feeling of the area of Campania near Naples from where the manager hails.

The spectacular island of Lindau, Germany
SUBSCRIBE: - Island, Germany. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Lindau is a town on Lake Constance (or Bodensee) in Bavaria, Germany, known for its old town on Lindau island. The harbor has a Bavarian Lion statue and a stone lighthouse with lake and mountain views. On the harborfront Seepromenade, the 12th-century Mangturm is a former watchtower with a pointed, tiled roof. Near restaurant-lined Maximilianstrasse, the Gothic Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) has a painted facade.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.
And A Little More Time in Lindau, Germany
Walking map in hand, it was past the harbour, old and new Town Halls, Tanners' Fortification, old and new churches including the ancient church of St, Peter and famous for its frescoes, supposedly the only examples by Holbein the Elder.
Wonderful food, gardens, tourists having a wonderful time and the very picturesque Thieves Tower. So very glad we took the time to visit Lindau...and you will be too...
The PRETTIEST German Island You've Never Heard Of! | Lindau Island
Lindau Island is nestled on Lake Constance (Bodensee in German) near the meeting point of the Austrian, German and Swiss borders. Lindau's medieval town center and picturesque location in Bavaria with lake and mountain views makes it the nearly perfect place for a holiday. I had never heard of Lindau before this trip so I suspect many other non-European folks also haven’t heard of it. As you'll see, conditions were NOT ideal, but I still fell in love with Lindau while I was there and think you should add it to your list of ideas for your next vacation.
If you do visit, make sure you see:
- the Lindau Lighthouse
- the 12th-century Mangturm, a former watchtower
- the Gothic Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) with its painted facade
- the Bavarian Lion statue in the harbor

Lindau - Alemania (HD1080p)
Rothenburg Germany - 11July2012
Wisconsin's Ambassadors of Music and Anatoliy Simkin were both playing when we visited. The Town Hall Tower looked substantial from the outside, but climbing up the rickety wooden stairs inside with loose railings, uneven treads and risers was not an adventure for the faint of heart. This 220 step (plus ladder) climb was much scarier to me than the 533 step climb to see the bells at the Cologne Cathedral.

Bamberg's Old City Hall adorns the Regnitz river in Bavaria, Germany.
Surrounded on all sides by the Regnitz, the Old City Hall stands on a small island with two bridges which allow access from the town.
Its breathtaking frescoes help make this building an architectural tour de force and a wonder for visitors.
Legend has it that Bamberg's townspeople erected the Old City Hall in the Regnitz because the Bishop of Bamberg refused to allow them land on which to build.
Old City hall is merely one of Bamberg's charming and often marvelous medieval sites.
It serves as a bridge between the multiple styles of life of which Bamberg is composed; from the medieval to the present.

Currently, it serves as the seat for both Bremen's Mayor and the President of the Senate.
It is exemplary of the magnificent Brick Gothic architecture that was popular between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries in Northern Europe.
The City Hall's architecture is a combination of cultures, boasting elements from the Dutch and Neo Renaissance styles.
During World War II its adoring citizens managed to shield the facade from the bombs which destroyed the majority of the city.
