Reno Spaghetti Bowl Reconstruction Project
The Nevada Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are proposing a new design for Interstate 80, Interstate 580 and US 395 in Reno and Sparks, Nevada.
This Spaghetti Bowl reconstruction project would accomplish the following:
Reduce travel delay
Improve safety
Improve aging bridges
And optimize regional system connections
This project would also improve access to surface streets at 16 locations along I-80, I-580 and US 395.
Three alternatives and a no-build option were considered to address the problems identified and Alternative 2 was identified as the preferred alternative because it strikes the best balance between satisfying the project needs while maintaining freeway access and minimizing impacts.
Alternative 2 uses a mix of ramp braiding and changes in access to improve the transportation network. The Spaghetti Bowl would significantly change, with extra lanes and increased posted speeds on the ramps. A new loop ramp would be introduced in the northwest quadrant for west to south movement. Remaining weaving movements would have greatly improved distances.
On the east leg, the Fourth Street/Prater Way and Rock Boulevard access would combine at Kietzke Lane and frontage roads would provide access to and from Rock Boulevard. This would give Rock Boulevard direct access to Nugget Avenue. It would also simplify braiding with the Spaghetti Bowl ramps and improve weaving to Pyramid way.
Other areas of focus for the Reno Spaghetti Bowl project include:
The Nugget Viaduct bridge. To avoid disrupting business at the Nugget Casino Resort, a 240 foot span would be built to avoid the need for new piers in the casino floor under the existing bridge.
Wells Ave and Oddie Boulevard, which would be treated as a single street. Wells would provide access to and from I-80. Oddie would provide access to I-580/US 395. Their ramps would be braided with the Spaghetti Bowl ramps to create safe and efficient function.
Plumb Lane and Reno/Tahoe Airport access. To improve weaving between Mill st and Villanova-Plumb, access would be combined at Plumb lane with a diverging diamond interchange.
The Second Street/Glendale Avenue interchange also would change to a full parclo to increase the southbound weaving distances.
Downtown Reno. No significant changes would be made to access at Sierra, Virginia and Center street to access downtown Reno.
These proposed highway system improvements will help define the future of the Reno Sparks area.

Virginia Street Bridge Ribbon Cutting - April 12, 2016
#VSBProject
The Virginia Street Bridge Project Ribbon Cutting event was held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. The public was invited to celebrate the opening of the new downtown bridge along with Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, the Reno City Council, Q&D Construction, Jacobs Engineering, and the many project partners.
The event featured a procession of transportation history from the National Automobile Museum, a performance from the University of Nevada, Reno Marching Band, and a concert by the Reno Wind Symphony. There were plenty of photo opportunities for attendees.
“Mayor Schieve, Reno City Council, and I are excited to celebrate the completion of this significant project in downtown Reno,” Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger says. “This falls in line with our strategic priority of fostering a vibrant downtown for our residents and visitors.”
Beyond Scary! The Frightening Ponderosa Hotel In Reno, NV
NationalElevators' words-
I've been going past this place for as long as I've been visiting Reno. The front of the building is simply labeled as the Wild Orchid Which itself is a strip club. I always figured the tower on top of it was the Wild Orchid's hotel so to call it. The place has always intrigued me, since its one of the larger hotels outside of the main Reno strip, and nobody has been to it or photographed it. Doing some research online, I found out that it's actually called the Ponderosa Hotel, but it is connected directly to the strip club. Upon looking at photos on Google maps, there was a recent photo from December of 2018 that someone took of the elevator, which showed the original black buttons and certificate with Montgomery written on it. I had plans to go there now. Driving up to the property, you're greeted with a sign that states rooms are $18 a night. The parking lot is shared with the strip club, and there are very shady looking people walking about the premises. Most of them looking like drug addicts, alcoholics, and even some homeless people. I parked my car in the lot, which I was worried about doing since the aforementioned homeless and blatant drunkards roaming the area. I made my way into the hotel lobby, where you're greeted with a very unkept front desk with a girl in her late twenties or early thirties who looked like she could care less about where she was at. There was a large sign saying that all visitors need to leave their Nevada state ID at the desk and to sign in with your name and telephone number. I walked right by and the person at the desk didn't give a rats ass about me. The elevators have the same signs posted on the doors and above the call button, which was replaced with a key switch to call them. There is a staircase door directly to the right of the elevator that isn't locked. And I saw lots of hotel guests, I suppose, using that more than the one elevator that was working. I go up to the second floor using those stairs, which inside looked like a hotspot for shooting up heroin or something malicious like that. I exit on the second floor and promptly begin filming. I spent no more time than I needed to there. I got my video, exited on the first floor, and left to my car which was thankfully untouched. The couple of guests I encountered were friendly, but they were clearly either on narcotics or just messed up in the head. I didn't even want to step out into the hallways to get a look around, which most of you know is unlike myself. Do not ever come here. It's not worth it.
My words-
To say this place is sketchy would be an understatement. I have no idea how this place remains open, but it does. You guys have seen all the scary motels I've gone into, but this is one of those places I didn't even want to go to. The building as a whole gives off such a scary vibe. I've walked by this place and never went in because it just doesn't look safe at all. I feel like if I were to go in there, I might not come back out the same way. Literally. Who knows how many people are shootin up and getting laid in there as I type this...

Downtown Reno Walk...The Legendary Truckee River Bridge
Because couples were able to get quick divorces in Reno, it became the divorce capital of the United States up until the 1970s. The legend holds that if you throw your wedding ring off the bridge, you will have a happy life should you get remarried again. Nice to have the Boss and Janet along on the chooch too!
