VIDEO ARCHIVE: 2010 - New Rochelle, New York Community Profile
FLASH BACK: New Rochelle is known as the Queen of the Sound. The city offers cultural pursuits with an arts wing and planetarium, Library etc. There is also an abundance of entertainment options from beach clubs to restaurants and theaters.
New Rochelle is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States, in the southeastern portion of the state. In 2007, the city had a population of 73,260, making it the seventh-largest in the state of New York
New Rochelle is commonly referred to as the Home Town because of the significant amount of single-family, residential development that exists throughout most of the city. While the formerly industrial downtown section is more densely developed, with condominiums, high rises, offices, shopping centers, affordable housing complexes, a medical center, nursing homes, two college campuses and an inter modal transportation hub, the rest of the city consists of sprawling, residential neighborhoods.
There are more than 11,500 single family units within the city, more than that of neighboring Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Scarsdale combined.
The total number of separate households surpasses 26,000, more than that of neighboring Pelham, Pelham Manor, Eastchester, Scarsdale, Mamaroneck and Larchmont combined.
Within the greater city borders are many established neighborhoods and subsections, several of which are larger in both size and population than neighboring towns of Larchmont, Bronxville and Pelham Manor.
The public community areas most noted include: Bayberry, Beechmont, Bloomingdale Estates, Bonniecrest, Daisy Farms, Davenport Neck, Echo Manor, Forest Heights, Forest Knolls, French Ridge, Glen Island, Glenwood Lake, Heathcote, Lake Isle, Larchmont Woods, Lyncroft, Northfield, North Ridge, Paine Heights, Pinebrook, Premium Manor, Quaker Ridge, Residence Park, Rochelle Heights, Sans Souci, Scarsdale Downs, Shore Road, Sutton Manor, Vaneck Estates, Ward Acres, Wilmot Woods and Wykagyl. Premium Point, Kensington Woods and Cherry Lawn are gated neighborhoods accessible only by those immediate residents.

AES Phase Out, South Bronx, NYC: Shop Classes, music by Mark Noakes_ver2
Alfred E. Smith Career & Technical Education (CTE) High School is one of the public schools proposed to be phase out by the NYC Department of Education (DOE) due to poor graduation rates. The DOE's Panel for Education Policy (PEP) has modified it's original proposal. Currently, it states that a new proposal will keep open the schools automotive technology program and phase out the schools other programs. A second proposal will be submitted to open two schools in the facility that will focus on over-age and under-credited students, and engineering training and education.
We welcome change, but phasing out our Building Trades program is not the answer and unacceptable; not having a plan that involves the continued use of the building to educate the economically disadvantaged South Bronx students in pre-engineering, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC is disgraceful.
Phasing out Alfred E. Smith HS and eliminating its unparalleled Career & Technical Education Building Trades component is unequivocally a mistake and not the solution to the problem.

19:08:43 SOF: its been good to welcome the Prime Minister to Washington even if for only for an afternoon's visit. I was delighted that we could continue our conversations from Paris, London, & Bonn on the whole host of issues where our cooperation is so close. In that connection, incidentally, I note that we have now met four times in this month in as many cities. It's customary when two political figures get together to describe their talks as far-ranging. But in our case, that statement is both figuratively & literally true. I'm going to have to check the history books, but four separate meetings in four different places in less than 4 weeks may well be unprecedented in our bilateral relations.
19:09:26 Seriously, I did have, as I always do, an exceptionally useful discussion w/ the Prime Minister which covered a number of critical issues. The fighting in the South Atlantic has stopped since we last met. We believe that a fundamental principle of international society, that force not be used to settle disputes, was at stake in that conflict. We also discussed other issues, including a number of economic questions, the future of East-West relations & the crucial role played by the events in Poland. We share the commitment to arms control negotiations w/ the Soviet Union.
19:10:01 And we also agree that the work accomplished at the two summit meetings in which we participated earlier this month, Versailles & Bonn, demonstrated anew the vitality & cohesion of the Western democracies. Clearly, there's much more in our free & pluralistic societies that unites us than divides us, & that's our major strength when we face a determined & totalitarian adversary.
19:10:24 With respect to the tragic situation in the Middle East, we consulted about what we could do to promote a lasting & just peace in that region that's so important to us; especially in Lebanon, & to bring an end to the human suffering there.
19:10:37 The Prime Minister has come to us at a particularly auspicious moment: the birth of an heir to the throne of the United Kingdom. And we have every hope that she will carry back to London our fondest good wishes, those of the American people, Nancy & myself, to their Royal Highnesses the Prince & Princess of Wales, and to their little son.
19:11:09 Thatcher: Thank you very much. Mr. President - can I just add a few words to what the President has already said. I was very anxious to come & talk to the President so that we could get up to date w/ a number of things that have happened since we last met on his very highly successful visit to Europe & his particularly successful visit to Britain. As he pointed out, since then, the fighting in the Falkland Islands has been concluded, which was a tremendous relief to us all. And we hope that things will steadily continue to improve there. continued...
And so, we're most grateful to you for making the extra effort to come down here & see us. I've just noticed today that in some of the questions I have been asked by some of you ladies & gentlemen & some others there's often been a little bit of an attempt to try to indicate some differences either between the United States & Britain, or some sort of attempt to divide us on some things. I can only report to you that those attempts will never succeed, because we can't be divided. continued...
19:13:39 Reporter. Mr. President, sir, do we still support negotiations in the South Atlantic dispute as provided for in U.N. Resolution 502?
19:13:46 President: This is a photo opportunity, Sam [Sam Donaldson, ABC News]—I'll fall back on that. I think that we have, we've made our position plain & clear on what we've tried to do there
19:13:59 Prime Minister: We're very grateful to the President for everything they've done to help. Thank you very much. Thank you.
President: Thank you. Limousine pulls up - give my love to Nancy. She gets in & limousine leaves as Reagan & others wave & return to White House.

Vintage Otis Traction Elevator at Alioto's in San Francisco, CA
This is an epic elevator. This elevator serves 3 floors, but my theory is that they put the 1 button on the 1st floor hall station, the 3 button possibly on the 3rd floor hall station, the old up button as the 3rd floor button, and the old down button as the 1st floor button. a blank button for door open, a blank button that does nothing, a blank button that doesn't press, and the alarm button in the original spot. I don't think this elevator ever was deadman's control. You can see in the shaft a little bit, as the door does not close all the way, but it is dark. There is someone at the door. but I'm guessing he just tells you you are at Alioto's.

Worcester: O/W/H (Otis) Traction Elevators (BEAUTIFUL Mods) @ City Hall, w/Balarick
Balarick's Channel:
We ride both Otis 3'rd Party Traction Elevators, with BEAUTIFUL modifications, at Worcester City Hall, Worcester, Massachusetts.
Typically, when elevators are modernized, they wind up looking terrible, and plain. Not only do they go with the Old-Tyme look with the EPCO fixturing, they also redid the walls, making these pleasant to look at. The drop ceiling almost hids the rounded front-to-back edges, the size being that of Otis instalations.
They ride like a hydraulic, being rough starts, rough stops, but was comfortable nonetheless. You can also hear the motors.
Otis Traction Elevator at Western Pennsylvania Hospital North Wing
Riding another set of Otis elevators in the North Wing of West Penn hospital. These were also modernized and have Innovation now, but they are really nice and have the original indicator. They also have classic leveling.
Thanks to for telling me about these elevators
