Whale Watch
Whale Watch out of Newburyport, MA on the Prince of Whales. For best viewing, watch in HD (720) and full screen. The trip starts on the Merrimack River and goes out to Jeffreys Ledge (roundtrip ~5 hours). The ledge is a 33 mile long glacial deposit. The video was taken with an Olympus E-PL1 and a Panasonic 14-45mm lens with Mega O.I.S (to avoid the rolling shutter problem). Editing was done with VirtualDub and Avisynth. Original capture used MJPEG, final uploaded file was a DivX (mp4) file.

Bar Harbor Maine 2016 Whale Watching Trip
Look at what we saw whale watching with Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation mp4
For nearly two decades, our family has been riding the wonderful whale-watching boats that carry passengers out for a life-changing encounter with glorious whales and other creatures who we encounter along the way. We are grateful for all we have learned from the naturalists on board, who are from the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation in Portsmouth NH.
recommend this marine conservation group highly enough. If you are considering a trip to see New England whales (and we highly suggest you do!) please hop aboard a boat working with Blue Ocean Society who not only teaches passengers about the species of whales, but the threats that they encounter in the ocean. The naturalists are friendly, children can touch baleen or listen to whale songs, and it is a day you will never forget.
Then Blue Ocean Society posts a blog about the trip where you can relive the experience and see pictures from your trip, learn more about the animals you saw.

Whales of Plymouth Mass.
While working in Mass., I decided to take a whale watching tour. Sorry about the poor video but in the rain my phone wouldn't cooperate all the time. We were about 25 miles out from Plymouth Harbor and saw about 15 whales in total. The song has no real name as of yet but is once again myself and Sonny Dietrich. I am on Bass and Mandolin and Sonny is on Guitar.

Cameras to watch downtown. Police say tool will aid crime prevention, increase safety
Through a state Community Policing grant, Newburyport police have installed three cameras in strategic locations around the downtown and waterfront.
With the ability to see Inn Street, State Street and the waterfront areas of the city, the cameras are aimed at high traffic places in the downtown area.
The three cameras can rotate 360 degrees and are able to capture things in very detailed screen shots that police can later use.
The total cost of the cameras was roughly $35,000, and Howard foresees additional cameras through other grants in the future should the first three be successful.
The city has put a 90-day period in place to review public reaction to them.........
Newburyport is a historic, beautiful town with LOW LOW LOW crime.
Low for the feds average, and for the states.
So why do they need three cameras watching all business that is being transacted in the downtown?
How long is the info being held for?
Who has access?
And what kind of reaction do they expect from the over-taxed citizens of this seaside community?
What is keeping the cameras from not looking into the windows of residences downtown?
the city has put a 90-day period in place to review public reaction to them, so call city hall and speak out!! Main Telephone: 978-465-4413
if you think cameras lead to a decrease in crime......

Whale Watch at Jeffries Ledge Gulf of Maine
On the last day of August 2016 we went whale watching. We went out of the Newburyport, MA on a boat called Captain's Lady II. We saw harbor seals, minkie whales and fin whales. What you'll see in this video are some of the fin whales we saw. If you wait for about 4 and half minutes in, you'll see one come up right next to the boat. It was really cool.

Nothing too exciting, kind of late in the season
Biking from Portland, ME to Newburyport, MA
filmed with a Brinno Gardencam. camera positioning was crappy on the first day (and the weather crappier) but the second day shaped up on both fronts.
ride was ~90mi., mostly along the coast. camped at Stadig Campgrounds in Wells, ME overnight, which comes recommended.
audio is an improvised jam in the studio before cutting Hello, Amy for Dylan Duncan's album What to Keep and Let Go.
Chad Macomber - electric guitar
Dylan Duncan - acoustic guitar
Marcin Kuc - bass
Cullen Corley - drums
(for anyone considering this ride, feel free to message me and I can send a google map of my route and some notes about what parts I would change, memory permitting)
