Breakfast Television live from the 1997 Corner Brook Winter Carnival
Was copying some old VHS tapes to digital and came across this...
ASN (Atlantic Satellite Network) did two episodes of Breakfast Television live from Corner Brook on February 21st and 22nd, 1997. It was a busy time around town with Winter Carnival starting up, Cabot and Festival 500 celebrations taking place that summer, and the Canada Winter Games just two short years away (and planning in full swing).
This video only has the last 20 minutes of the first episode (broadcast from Marble Mountain) but has the entire second episode (broadcast from Majestic Lawn). -Friends of Rufus
-Darryl Jenkins (Viking Games)
-Marble Mountain Ski Patrol
-The Sharecroppers
-Tony Buckle (Winter Carnival Committee)
-Silver Blades Figure Skating
-Dave Ledrew (Newfoundland Emporium)

It's wonderful to see an old bridge that was closed due to weight problems reopened to walkers with a small flower park next to it. Good job there folks! Looks great!

NANCY FROM LONDON
Traditional (arranged by Matthew Byrne & Billy Sutton)
Performed live at The Newfoundland Emporium (Corner Brook, NL)
Shot & Directed by Tom Cochrane.
Mixed & Mastered by Phil Churchill.
I learned this song from the singing of Pamela Morgan - one of Newfoundland’s most important balladeers. It was collected from Mose Harris of Lethbridge, Bonavista Bay. It captures the uncertainty a sailor's wife must live with as she waits for her man to return safely from sea.

The Velveteen Rabbit - Canada's Ballet Jörgen NL Tour
Dancers from Canada's Ballet Jörgen bring to life this renowned story of a young boy and his love for a stuffed rabbit that eventually comes to life. Written by Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit was the most popular of her thirty children’s books and focuses on the importance of friendship, love and the discovery of what is real. As the wise character Skin Horse says, “Real isn’t how you are made. It’s the thing that happens to you. When a child really loves you for a long, long time... then you become real.”
The Velveteen Rabbit was a favorite children’s story for choreographer Kathleen Rea. She has created a fairy tale work that she hopes will teach children that it’s what’s on the inside of you that’s most important.”
Join us for this #ACCPresents show, as Canada's Ballet Jörgen brings the story of The Velveteen Rabbit to life.

Composed by Peter Leonard.
Performed live at The Newfoundland Emporium (Corner Brook, NL)
Shot & Directed by Tom Cochrane.
Mixed & Mastered by Phil Churchill.
I great Placentia Bay song that I learned from Dad, who got it from my Great Uncle Dan Lake. It was written by Peter Leonard about an unfortunate miscalculation made by an experienced skipper - an accident can happen to the best man any day. A brilliant melody and some great turns of phrase...always been one of my favourites.

I went to join a group ride to Triton, Newfoundland and it didn't quite work out that way.
Pioneer Square Station Cherry St Escalators
The slowest escalators in a transit system I've ever experienced. It's a minute each way without extra walking. They are narrow. They break down frequently, too. Metro's trying to get grant money to replace these 20 year old escalators. Question is, why weren't they replaced when the tunnel was closed for light rail retrofit?

SUMMARY
=======
The Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie; VOC) was an early megacorporation, founded by a government-directed amalgamation of several rival Dutch trading companies (voorcompagnieën) in the early-17th century. It was originally established, on 20 March 1602, as a chartered company to trade with India and Indianized Southeast Asian countries when the Dutch government granted it a 21-year monopoly on the Dutch spice trade. The Company has been often labelled a trading company (i.e. a company of merchants who buy and sell goods produced by other people) or sometimes a shipping company. However, the VOC was in fact a proto-conglomerate company, diversifying into multiple commercial and industrial activities such as international trade (especially intra-Asian trade), shipbuilding, both production and trade of East Indian spices, Formosan sugarcane, and South African wine. The Company was a transcontinental employer and an early pioneer of outward foreign direct invest ...
