Arts Council Collection Works at Newlyn School
Newlyn School pupils chose ten works from the Arts Council Collection, which includes over 8,000 works of British art in a range of media. The majority of these were acquired from young and emerging UK-based artists over the past 70 years. The works will be on show in the school for a year,
except for three weeks in June when the School will lend the works to the gallery, helping to create a Palace of Culture, and transforming Newlyn Art Gallery into an inspirational setting for three weeks of intense, art-based activity, programmed by artists - or Cultural Secretaries - as directed by the children. The nine works chosen by the children will be a key visual element of Palace of Culture. Once the doors of the Palace have shut, and the works return to Newlyn School, the school will retain some of the magic of the Palace, inspiring staff and children to continue their artistic investigations.

I took a trip from Plymouth to Penzance in Cornwall. I had been there many years before. So it was li,e starting again. I found tthe Pen Lee House and Gardens, with a gallery looking at the Newly school of artists. Google them. I then walked to Pen Lee point and light house. On the way back I got talking to local fish mongers in there store.
I manged to take a look at the Penlee park Open theater which operates there in the summer. I manged to check out the quay where the Isles of Scilly ferries leave from.
It is only just over 11 miles to Lands end so next time I will take my bike free on thevtrain and cycle there. A great place to visit.
Thanks to John from Falmouth for the music on the video.

The Art of Dissonance: Lubaina Himid, Alan Kane and Ed Hall on art, democracy and protest
The Art of Dissonance is an exhibition exploring democracy and the role of art in society, where dissonant voices and disparate values conflict and evolve together.
As the exhibition comes to an end at the Seoul Museum of Art as part of our UK/Korea 2017-18: Creative Futures season, we asked three of the artists whose works feature in the exhibition what the idea of dissonance means to them, and how art can become activism, and activism can become art.
In this short film we hear from artists Lubaina Himid, Alan Kane and Ed Hall.
Largely drawn from the British Council Collection, the exhibition also includes works by John Akomfrah, Mona Hatoum, Samson Kambalu, Rachel Maclean, Cally Spooner, Bob and Roberta Smith, Martin Parr, Paul Graham, Jeremy Deller, Grayson Perry, Wolfgang Tillmans, Mark Wallinger and Gillian Wearing.

Heron Patrick 帕特里克·赫倫 British 1920-1999 Abstract Britain
tonykwk39@gmail.com
Patrick Heron was an abstract painter, writer, and designer who made noteworthy contributions to the development of abstract art. His work was devoted to the analysis of natural forms and colors. From his Abstract works, particularly those made up of horizontal or vertical stripes, to his softer-edged shapes, he regularly uses color to express the pleasure of sight as one of the most important human senses.
Patrick Heron was born in 1920 in Headingley, Leeds, in Yorkshire, England. After living in Cornwall his family moved to Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire in 1929. In 1933, he began to paint under the influence of Paul Cézanne after visiting the National Gallery in London during a school trip. Five years later, working for Cresta Silks, Patrick Heron designed his first silkscreen. Then in 1937, he became a part-time student at the Slade School of Fine Art in London for two years. In 1940, he worked as an agricultural laborer in Cambridge and Welwyn Garden City for four years before becoming an assistant at Bernard Leach's Pottery in St. Ives in Cornwall, in 1944. In 1945, he moved to Holland Park after marrying Delia Reiss. He was art critic for the 'New English Weekly' for two years before having his first one-man exhibition at Redfern Gallery in London, in 1947. Patrick Heron's early work included many figurative studies such as 'The Gas Stove' (1946) but the painting 'The Boats and the Iron Ladder' (1947) showed the direction he was moving towards with its complex patterning and unusual use of colors. His early work was influenced by Georges Braque and Henri Matisse.
Patrick Heron first met the American Abstract Expressionists in London in 1956, during an exhibition at the Tate Gallery, and he soon started to paint in an abstract style, as seen in the paintings Square Leaves (1956) and Winter Harbour (1955).

A (1931-2002) Contemporary British
tonykwk39@gmail.com
John Miller was an English artist born in London who became famous for his idyllic representation of beach scenes in his home county of Cornwall. Most of his paintings were of the West Penwith peninsula and Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.
During the 1970s John Miller emerged as a cultural figurehead within Cornwall. He became well known as a painter of popular, Monet-like Cornish scenes (many of which were cheaply reproduced as prints for the tourist trade), as an art teacher, a television personality, a patron of local charities and an active supporter of the Church of England. He was also responsible for some high profile architectural projects including a reordering of the interior of Newlyn Art Gallery.
At an advanced stage in his career John Miller’s artistic style underwent a radical change and by the mid-1990s his work (but not always his name) had become known worldwide as a result of the mass production and distribution of cheap posters, prints and cards with reproductions of his distinctive beach paintings: he produced the first of these in what was to become recognised as his trademark style in 1992. The beach scenes had enormous market appeal and have become firmly established as iconic images which - now much imitated - apparently spawned a genre. The paintings themselves, which Miller continued to produce in large numbers until his death in 2002, became highly sought after and were only available through selected London galleries at successive annual exhibitions which usually sold out well before their official opening dates.
John Miller was elected to become a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists in 1961. John Miller, a household name in Cornwall since the mid-1970s, is an artist whose work continues to have an extremely high public profile, both in the UK and internationally. In a 2003 survey (for the periodical 'Art Business Today') of 200 United Kingdom high street gallery owners whose businesses specialised in posters and popular art reproductions, Miller was listed alongside Monet and L.S. Lowry among the ‘top-four’ best-selling landscape artists and fifth - above Van Gogh (7th), Picasso (8th), and Matisse (10th) - in a list of the current ‘top-ten’ best-selling deceased artists in all genres. John Miller’s work is currently (2004-5) the subject of academic investigation by a postgraduate student at the University of Kent, Canterbury, England.
John Miller's works are currently (2009) viewable and sold at New Craftsman gallery in St.Ives.
