NEWSHAM PARK ASYLUM , LIVERPOOL
Newsham Park was originally an institute for the support and education of the orphans of British seamen. It was established by a group of leading Liverpool ship-owners in 1868. By 1899 there were 321 children in the orphanage. Notably, the orphanage housed Frederick Fleet, who in 1903 went on to become a deck boy, before ultimately becoming the lookout for the Titanic when it sank in 1912.
The First World War brought problems, and by 1918, one thousand orphans were being assisted. During the second World War, the children were evacuated to Hill Bark, the country home of a committee member, where they remained throughout the war.
in 1946, preparations were made for the orphans to return to Newsham Park, but with the expansion of the country’s social service schemes and updated laws, there was a decline in the number of resident children. As a result of financial difficulties, the orphanage closed in 1949, and in 1951, the premises were sold to the Ministry of Health for use as a hospital.
Newsham Park Hospital opened in 1954 with it’s own psychiatric department, and received an influx of patients with mental health issues. Officially stopping the intake of new patients in 1988, by 1992 all remaining patients and staff had been relocated. Also in 1992, the Rainhill Lunatic Asylum closed and all inmates were moved to Newsham Park Asylum, where they remained until 1997, when the building was closed, and purchased by a property developer.
Newsham Park Asylum is reputed to have housed some notorious patients, including Ian Brady.

In 1992 with the closure of Rainhill Lunatic Asylum the inmates were moved to Newsham Park Hospital taking up 90% of its space. £1.6 million was spent on the hospital so it could house its new patients. There are still notices posted on boards in the School block and paperwork in the property that are dated 1996. All records of patients and staff have been closed for 100 years from 1997 when the building was finally vacated of patients and staff.
FINALLY Got into Newsham Park asylum
The HAUNTED NAUGHTY BOYS room. There are rumors that on 1 part of the top floor there is a corridor with doors 10 plus that open to a very small space, i cant say room as it was only small enough to sit down for a small child. It sounds like it was a made up stories. To back it up the doors had letters and numbers as if it was a room. so this is actually a very creepy part n the house. This is my number 1 place i wanted to explore. I didn't do a paranormal investigation as I was scouting it 1st!
I am going to be doing some paranormal investigations here soon. I wont be doing it on 1 of the booked ghost hunts, as I need to have a few select people on my investigations, this helps rule out other people moving about.
Newsham Park in Liverpool, England is a 121 acres (49 ha) Victorian park that was opened in 1868. To the east of it is the Canada Dock branch railway line, and to the north is West Derby Road.
History
The park is part of a set of Victorian public parks within Liverpool, including Stanley Park, Walton Hall Park, Princes Park and the largest of the group, Sefton Park.
It is built on land purchased by the Liverpool Corporation from the Molyneux Estate. The development of the park was funded by the sale of plots for the construction of housing. Consequently the park is fringed by Victorian housing, some of which is currently empty and derelict.[1] The area has been awarded Conservation Area status, a legal protection against development to protect and preserve the Victorian architecture.
Newsham Park is the first individual work of the landscape architect Edward Kemp, an understudy of Joseph Paxton who was responsible for the grounds at Chatsworth House and the design of Birkenhead Park, a city park that became a working model for the creation of Manhattan's Central Park. As a result of this historic connection, as well as the park's intrinsic natural beauty, it has been awarded Grade II* listed status.
The park contains two large lakes, with one dedicated to the sailing of model boats, and the other larger lake historically having played host to rowing boats for hire to the general public. As has been the trend in Liverpool, the rowing boats are no longer present.
The park also plays host to several impressive buildings, including the Grade II listed Seaman's Orphanage — a building later converted to Newsham Park Hospital and subsequently earmarked for development as luxury apartments. Another magnificent building within the park is Newsham House, which is the residence for judges attending Liverpool Crown court and has in the past been visited by Queen Victoria.
In 2004 work commenced on the Academy of St. Francis of Assisi, a secondary school (11–16) under the UK Government's City Academy programme. The school is a modern four-story building at the western end of the park, and its contemporary style caused some friction with local residents who felt that it was at odds with the park's Conservation Area status.[citation needed]
The now-closed Stanley railway station was located in the south east corner and the similarly closed Tue Brook railway station to the north
