TWO MILES EAST OF PORT WILLIAM IS DRUMTRODDAN STANDING STONES. JUST OFF THE B7021 ROAD & IN THE CARE OF HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT SCOTLAND. THESE MEGALITHS ARE SITUATED IN A LANDSCAPE RICH IN PREHISTORIC REMAINS. THE DRUMTRODDAN ROCK ART SITE IS JUST 400M NW.
AT ONE TIME THREE MEGALITHS AROUND 3M TALL STOOD PROUND. IT IS POSSIBLE THERE WERE FOUR STONES, BUT THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF THIS. SOMETIME AROUND 2010 THE SW STONE HAD FALLEN OVER. THIS IS NOT SURPRISING AS THE BASE WAS VERY THIN & LEANING AT AN ANGLE. AT PRESENT ONLY ONE STONE IS UPRITE.
THE STONES SEEM TO BE IN A NE TO SW ORIENTATION. THIS SUGGESTS A SOLAR ALIGNMENT OF SUMMER SOLSTICE SUNRISE (JUNE 21ST) & A WINTER SOLSTICE SUNSET (DECEMBER 21ST). THESE DATES WERE SPECIAL TO OUR PREHISTORIC ANCESTORS.
ANOTHER POSSIBLE ALIGNMENT IS THE NORTHERN EXTREME MOONRISE IN THE NE & THE SOUTHERN EXTREME MOONSET TO THE SW. PERHAPS THE STONES WERE ERECTED FOR THESE KEY SOLAR & LUNAR DATES. THIS NE TO SW STONE ALIGNMENT IS ALSO SEEN AT TORHOUSE STONE CIRCLE.
WHEN THE STONES WERE ERECTED IS UNKNOWN. DATES BETWEEN 3000BC - 1000BC ARE POSSIBLE. THIS WOULD MAKE THE MEGALITHS, NEOLITHIC OR BRONZE AGE. THE ANCIENT INHABITANTS OF SW SCOTLAND, TOOK ON A BIG ORGANISATION PROJECT, ERECTING THESE FANTASTIC MEGALITHS.

We wanted to personalize the house. Boris and Gerry said we could make any changes we wanted, as long as we specified any requests before construction was done. They were true to their word! We totally redesigned the kitchen, customized closets, chose tiles and all of the paint colors. We changed locations of light fixtures, added new fixtures, added a door, moved a closet, and totally changed the layout of the third floor. Anything that we wanted to customize, we did. The result was a house that was exactly what we wanted. We couldn’t be happier.
