Samdruptse Namchi Sikkim - World's Largest Statue of Buddhist Guru Padmasambhava - Samdruptse Buddhist Monastery is situated near Namchi in South Sikkim. A Must Visit Tourist place near Namchi in South Sikkim.
Samdruptse means The wish fulfilling hill in local Bhutia language is a short distance uphill from Namchi, on Samdruptse hill, stand a giant statue of Guru Padmasambhava, gazing upon the town and across the hills. It is 45m tall and covered in shimmering gold, sparkles in the sun. It is an incredible feat of engineering, founded in 1997. The views are spectacular across and the statue can be seen from across many places in Sikkim and Darjeeling.
Statue of Guru Rinpoche, the patron saint of Sikkim. The statue in Namchi is the tallest statue of the saint in the world at 36 metres (120 ft). Samdruptse hill (The Wish Fulfilling well) opposite Namchi. Samdruptse hill is actually a Dormant Volcano. Myths say that the Buddhist monks have been going on top of the hill and offering prayers to the volcano to keep it calm. There is also a Rock Garden just few kilometers up from the town on the way to Samdruptse. Painted in shimmering copper, pink and bronze, the 45m-high statue of Guru Padmasambhava lords over the forested Samdruptse ridge and is visible for miles around. Completed in 2004 on a foundation stone laid by the Dalai Lama, the statue of the hallowed Buddhist leader sits atop a giant lotus plinth and makes for a striking photo-op. Within the complex, there's a permanent photo exhibition of archival images documenting Sikkim's cultural, natural and artistic history.
The site is 7km from Namchi, 2km off the Damthang/Ravangla road. the road down to the atmospheric Ngadak Gompa . Pass the ruined Ngadak Dzong , which dates back to 1717 and still exudes a sense of antique Sikkim.

One of the most revered monasteries in Sikkim, the Samdruptse Monastery boasts of modern planning and architecture, which is one of its highlights. The monastery is just 72 km Gangtok. In the local language Bhutia, the word ‘Samdruptse’ means ‘The Wish Fulfilling Hill’ and its name is a pointer to the extreme popularity of the monastery amid the devotees as well as the tourists.
It was on 22nd October in 1997 that the foundation of the monastery was laid by his holiness, Dalai Lama. This masterpiece is a work of art of around 1000 laborers, and several learned architects, engineers, and sculptors. The construction of the monastery got completed in 3 years.
Architecture
The colorful Samdruptse Monastery is an amalgamation of Sikkimese, Tibetan and modern- day styles of architecture. The most stunning feature is 135 feet statue of Guru Padmasambhava statue, and it probably is the world’s highest statue of Guru Padmasambhava. The statue in golden color with copper-colored clothes looks amazing.
This wonderful monastery is a treasure house of various paintings, historic sculptures, artifacts, and statues. Beautiful paintings and sculptures adorn the walls of the monastery. The architecture plan of the monastery is a combination of historic and modern nuances. Covering the statue from all the sides, the monastery also provides accommodation to Lamas and Monks.

Sikkim is a state that is known for its scenic beauty, rich culture and the monasteries located there. The state has around 250 Buddhist monasteries which makes it a popular pilgrimage centre for Buddhism.
Pemayangtse Monastery
Located around 140km from Gangtok, Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim and the most famous monastery in West Sikkim. This monastery was built in the 17th century by Lama Lhatsun Chenpo.
The three-storeyed structure has innumerable paintings of Buddhist saints in it. On the top floor of the monastery, there is a wooden sculpture depicting the heavenly abode of the Maha Guru Padmasambhava and it is believed that it took 5 years to craft the idol single-handed.
Enchey Monastery
The Enchey Monastery is located on a hill above Gangtok and considered a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site. The deities worshipped here are Guru Padmasambhava, Lord Buddha and Loki Sharia.
The location of the monastery makes the place all the more alluring as it is located atop a hill and Mount Kanchenjunga can be seen from this spot.
The Buddha Park of Ravangla, also known as Tathagata Tsal, is situated near Rabong (Ravangla) in South Sikkim district, Sikkim, India. It was constructed between 2006 and 2013 and features a 130-foot (40 m) high statue of the Buddha as its centerpiece.The statue was consecrated on 25 March 2013 by the 14th Dalai Lama, and became a stop on the 'Himalayan Buddhist Circuit'.
Mt. Kanchendzonga, aka Mt. Kangchenjunga, the world's third highest peak.
The Giant statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava),
is located in the hilltop at Samdruptse, Namchi and its 118ft. It is the worlds largest statue of Guru Rinpoche.
Gudu Rinpoche's actual name was Padmasambhava and is also known as Second Buddha.
He is said to have transmitted Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet, Bhutan and surrounding area in the 8th century AD. He is also considered to be the emanation of Buddha Amitaha, Shakyamuni.
Tashiding Monastery
is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma section of Tibetan Buddhism in Western Sikkim, northeastern India.
Tashiding means “The Devoted Central Glory” and the monastery by this name was founded in 1641 by Ngadak Sempa Chempo Phunshok Rigzing who belonged to the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Ngadak was one of the three wise men who held the consecration ceremony crowning the first King of Sikkim at Yuksom.
'Bhumchu Ceremony' or festival is a popular religious festival that is held on the 14th and 15th day of the first month of Tibetan Calendar.
Yuksom
means “meeting place of the three learned monks”. According to the legend, three monks from Tibet selected Phuntsog Namgyal as the first King of Sikkim and gave him the title Chogyal, meaning “religious King” or “the king who rules with righteousness”.
It was the first capital of Sikkim established in 1642 AD .
Pelling
Pelling is a small town in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim, at the foothills of Mount Khangchendzonga.
The giant statue of Chenrezing
The 135-feet (40m)statue of Chenrezig is located at an elevation of 7,200 metres at Sangha Choeling, 1.7 km away from Pelling, a tourist destination in West Sikkim.
“This is the world’s tallest statue of Chenrezig, for which the state government has spent ~ 70 crore.
“The foundation stone was laid in 2009 and the Dalai Lama consecrated the statue,”
Khecheopalri Lake
Khecheopalri Lake, originally known as Kha-Chot-Palri (meaning the heaven of Padmasambhava), is a lake located near Khecheopalri village, 147 kilometres (91 mi) west of Gangtok in the West Sikkim district of the Northeastern Indian state of Sikkim.
Located 34 kilometres (21 mi) to the northwest of Pelling town, the lake is sacred for both Buddhistsand Hindus, and is believed to be a wish fulfilling lake. The local name for the lake is Sho Dzo Sho, which means Oh Lady, Sit Here. The popularly known name of the lake, considering its location is Khecheopalri Lake, ensconced in the midst of the Khechoedpaldri hill, which is also considered a sacred hill.

The Char Dham (four abodes) is a set of four pilgrimage sites in India. Vaishnavite Hindus believe that visiting these sites helps achieve Moksha (salvation). It comprises Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram. It is considered by Hindus that every Hindu must visit the char dhams during one's lifetime. This temple has all the 4 temples built around lord Shiva.
Ngadak Monastery
It is one of most beautiful monastery in Sikkim. It front of the monastery there is a huge space. One can enjoy the beautiful seen around the monastery as its covered by mountain all side.

Set in a picturesque location, Namchi offers an unmatched view of the Khangchendzonga range and the Rangit valley. Here you can visit the Sherdup Choeling Monastery and the Dichen Choeling monastery. Around two kms from Namchi is the old Ngadak monastery which is now being renovated.
