Niah National Park Miri Malaysia | SUPER CREEPY!
This was by far the scariest day I have had traveling! These caves in Niah National Park outside of Miri Malaysia are amazing, but scary too! The thunderstorm and thousands of bats made it all the more creepy. As spooky as it was, I definitely would recommend going here if you are visiting Miri in Borneo. ^^
Welcome to my channel! I'm Patrick and this is Patmax Adventures! I'm originally from California and have been living abroad for the past four years. My focus will always be on the culture, food and of course the local people of everywhere I travel to! I'm an optimist and always try to highlight the positives of a place rather than just the negatives.Though I will also be bluntly honest at times too! Niah National Park, Miri | Sarawak
Niah Great Cave is alive with 40,000 years of unwritten history, because it was inhabited by humans at at least 40 millennia ago. The caves are the site of some of the oldest human remains discovered in Southeast Asia. You will not be the only visitor to this magnificent cave. It is the haunt of local Penan tribesmen, who make a living collecting edible birds nests built high in the cave walls by swiftlets.

A PERFECT DAY IN MIRI - Niah National Park
We had a wonderful day with our friend and local guide Hanee. Our main attraction was visiting the Niah National Park, with caves to explore (watch out for the snakes).
Followed by the very underrated Tusan Cliff Beach, which at night you can actually watch neon blue illuminating algae, nicknamed blue tears.

Niah National Park @ MIRI Sarawak
Located on the Sungai (river) Niah, about 3 km from the small town of Batu Niah, a 110 km to the south-west of Miri in northern Sarawak. The park was first gazetted as a National Historic Monument in 1958, gazetted as National Park on 23 November 1974 and was published to the public on 1 January 1975. The Park is one of Sarawak's smaller national parks, but it is certainly one of the most important and has some of the most unusual visitor attractions. The park's main claim to fame is its role as one of the birthplaces of civilisation in the region. The oldest modern human remains discovered in Southeast Asia were found at Niah, making the park one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.
Forty thousand years ago, the Niah Great Cave sheltered human life. Here lies the oldest human remains in Southeast Asia, along with many other relics of prehistoric man. Today the Cave is home only to bats, swiftlets and other specially adapted forms of life. However, a few locals still venture into the dark interior to collect guano (bird and bat droppings used as fertilizer) and bird's nest.
The famous Painted Cave is another highlight of the visit to Niah Cave. Here, little human-like figures drawn in red haematite watch over a gravesite where the bodies of the dead were each laid in its own boat-shaped coffin. The Great Cave and Painted Cave have been declared as National Historical Monuments.
The Caves are accessible via a raised plankwalk that winds through lowland forest vibrant with birds and butterflies. Apart from the Caves, visitors can explore several kilometres of forest trails to feel the richness of tropical rainforests, climb a 400m tall limestone ridge or visit an Iban longhouse located near the Park boundary. Visitors can also rent a boat or walk along the river from Park headquarters to Batu Niah town.

Having Fun In Miri - Niah National Park
Niah National Park, Sarawak
The Niah National Park is a 2-hour drive from Miri and is home to the Niah Caves - a limestone cave system that has seen some human occupation from prehistoric times. You'll need to take a very short boat ride across the river from the park entrance to access the rather lengthy trek leading towards the caves. You might spot some interesting fauna along the way. It gets pretty dark in some sections - you'll need to bring your own light source to navigate, but that's where you'll see some huge cave crickets.
There are birds roosting on the ceilings of some of the taller caves - this is where the dangerous activity of bird's nest harvesting takes place by climbing up those poles hanging off the ceiling.
At the end of the (publicly accessible) hike is the Painted Cave. Unfortunately, sections have been cordoned off to prevent visitors from defacing the ancient cave paintings along its walls.

Pre-historic humans at Niah Caves 65,000 yrs old — Archaeologist
( Sources from : )
Human pre-history has been established to have existed about 65,000 years ago in the Niah Caves system, exceeding the previous estimate of 45,000 years.
The discovery of ‘Deep Skull’ – believed to belong to a middle-aged woman who was buried about 35,000 years ago – in the West Mouth 60 years ago had positioned Niah Caves as a key global location in human pre-history.
The new timeline was reached after excavation at Trader’s Cave – part of the Niah Caves system – uncovered five pieces of microlithic tools aged 65,000 years, as well as a human skull aged 55,000 years.
University of New South Wales associate professor Dr Darren Curnoe, who specialises in paleo-anthropology and archaeology, pointed out that microlithic tools were usually used by early humans to carry out daily activities.
“Small pieces of rocks were sharpened and glued onto bones and wood to make barbs, spears and maybe even arrows,” he said during a talk titled ‘Next Chapter in the History of Niah Caves’ at Sarawak Museum here yesterday.
He said the new discovery puts Trader’s Cave as the oldest archaeological site in Borneo and the oldest site with human remains in Malaysia.
