How do you experience the Arb?
A Michigan Daily article from 1998 rumored that Robert Frost might have written the poem, The Road Not Taken, about his time spent in Ann Arbor's beloved arboretum. Frost was, after all, a poet-in-residence at U-M in the 1920s. But with this particular poem being penned back in 1915 in New Hampshire as part of a letter to his friend Edward Thomas, that inspiration appears to be wishful thinking.
The Road Not Taken is all about the way we alter our perceptions of past experiences. In the poem, Frost illustrates the way in which we often fret over our decisions. We try to know where our potential choices will lead us and then blindly justify the ones we finally pick. Though Frost claims to have written this as a more playful and mocking poem, it can be read much more deeply, and even strike a nerve with those who put great thought into their decisions like it did for his friend, Thomas.
But ultimately, Frost uses nature in his poem as a setting for reflection and contemplation about life and humanity. With such great beauty and diversity, Nichols Arboretum stands as our immediate and grand access to nature for our own personal reflection and contemplation.

Singing Rocks on the Huron River in Nichols Arboretum - University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI
Let's Visit Ann Arbor, MI
In this video, I head over to Ann Arbor, MI, the largest city (and county seat of Washtenaw County). I check out the downtown area including Main St as well as head over to the central campus of the University of Michigan. Later in the video, I head over to where Michigan Stadium and the Crisler Center are located. At the end of the video, I head over to Furstenburg Park located north of Ann Arbor along the Huron River.
On Filming The Water Sequence At Nichols Arboretum (Huron River) For Love Realistically Speaking
We had shot a portion of the Water Sequence at Kensington Metropark, but then we also had to shoot another part of the sequence in a different location with Water. That part of the scene was done at the same location where The Water Man sequence was shot. I thought this would be such a cool spot to use in the short film, as there are steps which sort of lead into the Water!
For Those who haven't already been there, Nichols Arboretum is such a nice place to visit! You All should at least go by the Huron River there!
Unlike the Water at Kensington Metropark, the Huron River at The Arb wasn't deep enough for me to go in. As the Water had some speed, and was flowing, I couldn't really stay down too long (the Water would have carried me away). Although we didn't get exactly what we were aiming for, I still think we got some pretty decent footage from there.
You All should see the short film to see how this played out!
