2 Killed, 1 Missing in Bike Track Collapse in Brazil
At least two people died and another was missing after a newly built cycling track was washed by a strong wave and collapsed in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.
The accident happened in the morning on the Tim Maia cycling track, which joins the districts of Sao Conrado and Leblon.
The collapse of a 50-meter stretch of the cycling track which was only opened in January killed the two. The fire brigade is searching for the third.
The track was built alongside the Niemeyer Avenue and linked up with two other older tracks. Running for 3.9 kilometers, it costs the city about 12.6 million U.S. dollars.

At least two people died after an elevated bike lane collapsed onto a beach in Rio de Janeiro, Thursday.
The bike lane was built as part of the Olympic Games project and connected the Sao Conrado and Leblon districts of Rio.
The structure was not due to host any Olympic events.

The climate is hot year-round, with both a wet (Oct–Mar) and dry (May–Aug) season. Peak travel period is May–Jul. As in other Brazilian cities, Carnaval (dates vary, Feb/Mar) is a big deal, and hotels get booked up well ahead.
