Haunted attraction taking over abandoned factory in Utah
You may have seen it off I-15, an old, abandoned factory that is now being turned into a huge haunted house. The creators say they want to make it the biggest west of the Mississippi.
The factory is located in an old industrial area of Salt Lake City, at 666 W. 900 South.
It's definitely creepy in the daytime and twice as bad at night, Keith Sharp, the co-owner of Fear Factory, said.

The many thousands of reports from all over the world leave little doubt that haunting experiences are quite real. Ghosts and haunting seem to be a relatively common part of the human experience. And there appear to be several types of ghosts or haunting, and more than one theory might be needed to explain them all.

Places to see in ( Salt Lake City - USA )
Places to see in ( Salt Lake City - USA )
Salt Lake City, Utah’s high-elevation capital, is bordered by the buoyant waters of the Great Salt Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Range. Downtown’s 10-acre Temple Square, headquarters of the Mormon Church, is home to the majestic, 19th-century Salt Lake Temple and the neo-Gothic Assembly Hall. The acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs in the square’s domed Tabernacle.
Salt Lake City is the capital and largest city of Utah, with a population of approximately 190,000 (the Salt Lake Metro Area in its entirety has over a million people). It is one of the largest cities in the Southwest region of the United States, although its climate is more similar to the Rocky Mountain region. It lies in the Salt Lake Valley along the Wasatch Front urban corridor, located between the Wasatch Range to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west; on the border between the Rocky Mountain and Great Basin geographic regions.
Salt Lake City is well-known as the center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormon church), although fewer than half of the city's residents are members. The city is also known as a base for outdoor recreation, including the many nearby ski resorts just east of the city which were thrust into the world spotlight by the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Significant neighborhoods in SLC include Downtown, the financial core that's home to Temple Square (the main headquarters of the Mormon church); Central City, the main residential area of the city, approximately 400 South to 900 South; Sugar House, a commercial/residential district with many local and national shops; Federal Heights, an affluent district to the northeast; The Avenues a historical neighborhood with many late 1800 and early 1900 buildings; University, the area surrounding the sprawling University of Utah campus and the adjacent VA Medical Center, Research Park, and Fort Douglas; East Bench or Foothill, a residential area bisected by the major arterial road Foothill Boulevard between 900 South and I-80; Capitol Hill, an affluent district just north of Downtown topped by the Utah State Capitol building; Rose Park a residential in the northwest section of the city; and Glendale a residential, primarily Hispanic district to the southwest, home to the International Peace Gardens. The benches are the mostly residential, upper-class communities constructed mostly along the slopes of the Wasatch Mountains on the east side of the valley, although they have recently been growing in the southern valley (the low Traverse Mountains) and the western valley (the Oquirrh Mountains). The east side is traditionally more affluent and conservative than the west side, leading to the expected cultural rivalries that you find in other cities with clear divides, although this divide is arguably less pronounced in Salt Lake City than in most major cities.

Dont Be A Monster
Original file date: Wed, 1 Oct 2014, ID:z39voa
SYRACUSE — Haunted houses are opening their doors across town, but one such place is making sure the monsters are kept inside their walls, by venturing out to local schools and teaching kids how to avoid being a monster. Nightmare on 13th, a haunted house in Salt Lake City, is participating in the “Don’t Be a Monster†anti-bullying campaign this month at several schools, including Wednesday’s visit to Syracuse Junior High. “Don’t Be a Monster†is a national effort sponsored by haunted houses across the country during the month of October, national anti-bullying month. “Who wants to get bullied?†asked Val Chadwick Bagley, a professional cartoonist, who works for Nightmare on 13th. “If there is one thing that can be solved, it is bullying, because it tops the list of things we can change, because the damage is horrifying. The impact we can have can change people’s lives.†Bagley, who also cartoons for the Standard-Examiner, pointed out to students that the monsters, ghouls and zombies at haunted houses aren’t real and are fun for the season, but there are real monsters in the world who are bullies. Growing up in Southern California, Bagley recounted a time in high school when he decided to bully a fellow student with mental disabilities. “I thought it would be fun, so I teased him,†Bagley said. “I couldn’t believe how easy it was because he didn’t put up a fight, so I did it again, and then I felt myself flying through the air into a locker when another kid told me to stop it. He changed my life. I had no right to do that, and I’m so glad someone acted out and made me stop, because I was being a monster.†Bagley’s main focus Wednesday was pointing out to students that youth can make a difference. “Everyone in this room can make difference and choose to be a friend or a bully,†Bagley said. “There is only one letter difference between the word friend and fiend, someone who is cruel, intentionally causing pain and discomfort in other people’s lives. It is your decision to be a friend or a fiend, and it only takes one person to make that difference.†In the “Don’t Be a Monster†video shown to the students, a character looking eerily similar to Frankenstein is bullied at school, with audience members visibly cringing at the mean things said to him. At the end, when the bullying was topped off with some mean messages sent to him on social media, the Frankenstein character was ready to post a status saying that since everyone thought he was a monster, he would prove them right and be a monster. However, two of his friends step in to tell him that the bullies are the monsters, reminding him that no one is born a monster, that it is a choice everyone has to make. Afterward, Bagley discussed the three kinds of bullying – physical, social, and cyber-bullying. He pointedly told students, “Decide right now in this assembly that you won’t be a bully. Don’t wait until something happens. Decide right now.†Ninth-grader Savannah Nicholls was touched by the assembly message, mentioning how she sees bullying going on around her, but she hopes the message will hit home to the bullies. “I think maybe they will look at it a different way, and think about their actions before they do it,†Nicholls said. Principal Chris Keime says the school is always looking for ways to remind students about the impact of bullying. “I think we all need to pay attention to how we treat people,†Keime said. “We need to send the message that we need to always be kind and treat people with respect.†Bagley also spent time drawing pictures of bullying, showing that a bully might look normal on the outside, but on the inside, they feel like a monster, as Bagley drew menacing-looking monsters behind the bullies. Bagley shared the dire statistics that those who bully are more likely to have arrests before the age of 30, and bullies along with their victims experience loneliness and lack of success in school. Bagley suggested students who are victims or witnesses to bullying should avoid areas where bullying is commonplace, state in a clear voice to stop it, walk away, and find an adult. After the assembly, students commented about the message, including ninth-grader Nicholls, who said, “People feel like they need to put other people down and that makes them feel good, but if this message gets spread around that bullying is not OK, then hopefully people won’t do it so much.â€
Don't Be A Monster
Don't Be A Monster (DBAM) is a national nonprofit that organizes programs to raise awareness about bullying prevention in middle and high schools throughout the US.
We were founded by haunted house owners, and continue to partner with haunted houses throughout the US to deliver programs in area schools. Our partnering organizations are (in alphabetical order by city): Netherworld (Atlanta, GA), House of Torment (Austin, TX), 13th Floor (Chicago, IL), Cutting Edge (Dallas, TX), 13th Floor (Denver, CO), Chambers of Poe (Kansas City, MO), Headless Horseman (New York, NY), Bates Motel (Philadelphia, PA), 13th Floor (Phoenix, AZ), Nightmare on 13th (Salt Lake City, UT), 13th Floor (San Antonio, TX), Georgetown Morgue (Seattle, WA), and Wisconsin Fear Grounds (Waukesha, WI).
DBAM seeks to improve the lives of youth in America by conducting targeted outreach and educational activities in schools. Our programming is focused on addressing issues of bullying. We seek to empower students to stand up for their friends and peers, build cohesive and caring communities, and report issues to trusted adults.
We coordinate and delivers in-school presentations for students in currently 13 cities throughout the country. The hour long presentations delve into the implications and consequences of bullying in an effort to raise awareness about the seriousness of the issue and to prevent it from continuing. In addition, Don’t Be A Monster explains ways to address issues that may already be present in school.
Tools we use to deliver our message include a 6-minute video, enthusiastic presenters, engaging presentation, and a symbolic character named Frank who represents individuals who are a little different.
