Niigata Animation and Manga Museum
For only 200円 (more for special exhibitions add ons) you can experience the Niigata Animation and Manga Museum. I have to admit that I am not really into anime and went because a friend of mine wanted to visit, but it was a lot of fun. The museum is small, but offers a ton of interactive games and opportunities to learn how anime is created. It appears that the museum is focused more on local artists and creators from Niigata Prefecture. When you first enter the main area of the museum you are greeted by a giant screen on a table that allows you to slide digital coins onto characters, each coin represents a personality and characters changed based on the coins that have been “thrown” at them. Behind this area is a room where you can jump into a cartoon scene. In the cartoon you are put in the mean streets of. . . . well I don`t. . . but crap is attacking you so I know the streets aren't that nice. A camera catches your movements and responds in the screen, your goal is to catch the women that appear on the screen while dodging evil clouds. Throughout the museum you have an opportunity to watch videos, learn about artists, make your own anime drawing, do a voiceover, and connect scenes to make a short video. Some things are written in English, but it is mainly Japanese which made visiting a lot of fun as we tried to figure things out. If you are visiting Niigata check this place out. It`s a great way to spend an hour and stay on budget. This is the website (sorry it`s in Japanese only):

Cai Guo-Qiang | Transient Rainbow
Transient Rainbow is a 15 second-long pyrotechnic event conceived by artist Cai Guo-Qiang. It was commissioned by MoMA to celebrate the opening of its temporary home in Queens in 2002 and organized by Lilian Tone, Assistant Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture. A rainbow of fireworks crossed the East River on June 29th, 2002, mirroring the Museum’s movement from Manhattan to Queens. The Museum moved back to its home on West 53rd Street in Manhattan in 2004.

Moon-Viewing Lighted Path in Kanazawa (guest submission)
A uniquely lighted path under a full moon. Meditation meets contemporary art for the Moon-Viewing festival in Kanazawa, Japan.
October 6th through 8th, 2017, marked the end of Tsukimi, or moon-viewing, the Japanese tradition of enjoying the autumn moon at its fullest and most beautiful.
Adding to the nighttime reverie, students and faculty from the Kanazawa Institute of Technology and the Kanazawa Institute of Fine Arts create works of light and art throughout central Kanazawa, spreading color throughout Kanazawa Station, Tatemachi Street, and, as pictured in this video, the Shiinoki Culture Complex, also known as Kanazawa Central Park.
