Places to Visit in Lagos: Nike Art Centre
Nike Art Centre, Lagos is one of Nigeria's hidden treasures. Located in Lekki, Lagos, the four- storey building compromises of an art gallery and textile museum with over 7,000 pieces; a training section for young artists; and soon to have Coffee shop. The Centre has a diverse collection of art by a multitude of artists, celebrating Nigeria's talent, offering visitors an insight into all cultures of Nigeria through the medium of art. It can take up to a full day to discover all the Nike Art Centre has to offer. Fortunately, the gallery is open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm and often holding art exhibitions, workshops and cultural days. If you're feeling creative you can take an art course with Nike or go on one of her week-long retreats outside of Lagos in Osun state (Osogbo), Kogi state (Ogidi) and Abuja, all of which you can visit with 'Nike Tours'. The tours offer overnight accommodation at her guesthouses, and partake in creating traditional African crafts such as adire, batik, indigo, beadwork, painting, or carving. Nike Art Centre is an impressive gallery and a must for art lovers.

Nike is the Managing Director/CEO of Nike Center for Art and Culture, Osogbo where trainings are offered free of charge to all Nigerians in various forms of arts. The center was established in 1983, by Nike solely from her earnings as an artist and without governmental assistance. Nike opened this center with 20 young girls who were marching the streets in Osogbo aimlessly and who had no hopes for the future. In their tender age, Nike withdrew these girls from the streets and provided them with free food, free materials and free accommodation at her residence at Osogbo and taught them how to use their hands to earn decent livings through the art. So far, over 3000 young Nigerians have been trained in the center and who are now earning their decent livings through art. Many African countries now send their students to study textile art at the center.

Tourmomentwithtiana| Nike Art Gallery
Nike art gallery is a must-to-go places for me in Lagos.
I had a great time there
I saw beautiful artworks by the great woman and other Nigerians
Artworks made with beads and paintings
Each artwork has its own unique meaning
If you love to take pictures and you want to feel light and love, just go there
You don’t have to pay for entry as long as you’re are less than 5 in a group
Once you exceed that number
You have to pay
They sell nice and beautiful artworks and wears
I took soo many pictures and we were told not to take videos but they weren’t strict about it
Go put a smile on your face
I also got to see Mrs Nike herself. She is very welcoming and if you don't know her, you won't know she owns the place.
The gallery is well maintained. Atmosphere very relaxing and the staff very welcoming.
