Cairo, Egypt - Sailing on the Nile River HD (2013)
The Nile is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world. It is 6,650 km (4,130 miles) long. The Nile is an international river as its water resources are shared by ten countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and the Arab Republic of Egypt. In particular, the Nile River provides the primary water resource and so it is the life artery for its downstream countries such as Egypt and Sudan.
The Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and Blue Nile. The White Nile is longer and rises in the Great Lakes region of central Africa, with the most distant source still undetermined but located in either Rwanda or Burundi. It flows north through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and South Sudan. The Blue Nile is the source of most of the water and fertile soil. It begins at Lake Tana in Ethiopia at 12°02′09″N 037°15′53″E and flows into Sudan from the southeast. The two rivers meet near the Sudanese capital of Khartoum.
The northern section of the river flows almost entirely through desert, from Sudan into Egypt, a country whose civilization has depended on the river since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan, and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along riverbanks. The Nile ends in a large delta that empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

Nile River Cairo - Part of the Longest River in the World
Nile River, Cairo, Egypt - One of the longest rivers in the world is Nile River and Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is set on it. There are different destinations to head to and enjoy the magic scene of the Nile River.
Thinking about a romantic dinner, going with your friends to a casual kind of restaurant, taking a boat (felucca ride) in the Nile, or even staying at one of the hotels to pamper yourself? These are just some of the options that you could think about when it comes to enjoying the breeze by the Nile in Cairo, Egypt.
The Nile River was considered the longest in the world until recently some studies suggested that the Amazon might be longer; so it might depend on your own imagination and conclusion. This Nile covers eleven countries and that is the reason why it is considered an international river; it covers Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, and Kenya.
Since the Northern section of the river mainly flows in Sudan and Egypt, the Egyptian ancient history depended so much on it. A lot of those cities related to Egypt are placed on the Nile. Luxor and Aswan are from the most famous historical cities which are filled with ancient museums and artifacts that tourists from around the world come for and which most of them are found along the riverbanks.
From the experience that we had with the Nile River in Cairo, we have to mention that we were truly amazed by the view during the day light as well as at night; both will take you by surprise no matter what kind of activity or thing you are doing.
There are lots of restaurants and cafes found by the Nile in El Zamalek area and in Maadi, and both could welcome you for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even for just a cup of coffee. If you want to make it a combination between seeing one of the city's landmarks and at the same time having dinner, you could head to Cairo Tower which will give you the chance to see the central part of Cairo by the Nile from above and at the same time enjoy the rotating restaurant at the top of the tower afterwards; one complete rotation takes about 70 minutes (
There are a lot of hotels that you could book in during your visit to Cairo, Egypt, but which will differ in their price according to the location you are going to choose. Choosing a hotel by the Nile will cost you more than those which you are going to choose in the streets within, not just that, but a lot of those hotels found by the Nile happen to be from the five-star ones and thus will also cost you than any regular one that could help in giving you a fair view of the Nile. This is considered the second way to enjoy the Nile River in Cairo, Egypt, after thinking about the regular outings.
Another recommended option is taking a felucca ride in the Nile which will take you through a fair round and show you the restaurants, buildings, and hotels which are found by the Nile. We recommend that you take this felucca ride from Zamalek and always bargain about the price because they could eventually reduce the price for you. This is one of the most recommended things we choose when it comes to the Nile and enjoying it.
For us, it is considered a good idea to choose a place that is beautiful, kind of historical, and at the same time will be directly placed on the Nile, such as El Andalus park which is found in Zamalek and which was built in the time of Khedive Ismail and given to his wife as a gift ( There are other palaces related to famous characters which are placed on the Nile, but some of them are more of artistic and thus might not be known by the foreigners.
All the details related to the restaurants you could visit, the felucca tour which you could book, or the other things you could do by the Nile could be found either through asking in your hotel or else doing your research on the internet.
Cairo is filled with treasures everywhere you tend to place your feet, so in addition to these things done by the Nile, we suggest that you visit some historical landmarks as well. From these suggestions we recommend Mohamed Ali Palace ( we recommend going to the Egyptian Museum ( booking a place in any event at the Cairo Opera House, or visiting the Islamic Art Museum (
In addition to the sightseeing places found near Zamalek area, there are general destinations in Cairo which you will need to go to; the great pyramids of Giza ( Cairo citadel ( the religious community (Mogamaa Al Adyan) ( as well as lots of other places.
Whenever you dig deep behind the things that you could see in Cairo, Egypt, you will always land on different landmarks to take your breath away.

I have shared the information about the entry ticket in Hatshepsut temple. I had Koshari, Roz Belaban and Fool in the lunch. So you will see it is not difficult to get the vegetarian food in Egypt. We live on the Nile all our life, day and night, and the kilo of fish that we get everyday I take to the marketplace, sell it and buy the vegetables and come back to the boat, cook, wash and make the tea and stay like that all day. LEAD-IN:
There are work alcoholics and then there are workers who live and sleep their job.
For one poor, Egyptian family their working life is a 24 hour, 7 day a week experience.
The urban fishermen and women also recruit their children to help with the daily tasks.
STORYLINE:
The day is clear, and the sun is shinning in the Egyptian city, Cairo - the largest city in Africa and the Middle East.
The vast majority of Egypt's 78.8 million population (2006) live near the banks of the Nile River.
And from shortly after sunrise, Bayoumy Mohammed, his wife, Sabah Nagy, and their son, Sayed, row along the Nile, casting their net, and hauling it in.
Bayoumy's family is among the legions of poor in this city of 18 million.
They live on their 23-foot boat, which is so humble it doesn't even have a name.
They work seven days a week, fishing in the shadow of some of Egypt's most expensive hotels, villas and high-rises, a symbol of Egypt's vast and potentially explosive economic divide.
Bayoumy is 42. His wife Sabah is 31 and a fisherman's daughter herself. They have 1 child Sayed.
Sayed is part of the well-disciplined crew, he doesn't go to school and instead helps his family in their work.
The young boy says he was always dreaming of going to school, to play with his friends, to live in a house and to leave the sea.
Sayed's day revolves around fishing, eating, sleeping and fishing again.
It is not unusual for children in Egypt not to attend school, but Bayoumy felt bad about not being able to send Sayed to school.
From antiquity, fishing has been a staple on the great river bounded by vast deserts. But fish stocks are dwindling in the waters that split metropolitan Cairo.
Bayoumy professes no sentimental attachment to fishing, and would, he says, never look back if he found another job. His wife shares the same view.
Bayoumy considers himself a fisherman from birth, and he is proud of being above the corruption that permeates Egyptian life.
