Nizwa Oman
Nizwa (Arabic: نزوى Nizwā) is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 72,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar.
Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area.
Oman's Nizwa Fort
Nizwa Fort is a large castle in Oman.
It was built in the 1650’s by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya’rubi on foundations that go as far back as the 12th century.
Two cannons guard the entrance to the fort like age-old sentinels.
Engraved on them are designs that date back to Oman’s era of military advancement with introduction of mortar-based warfare.
Within the fort are battlements, turrets, twisting staircases, secret shafts and false doors, which were originally designed with deception in mind.
These water cisterns within the fortified compound draw water from a subterranean stream, ensuring endless supply of water during a lengthy siege.
The enormous main tower rises 30 metres above the ground
and is 36 metres across.
Nowadays it is Oman's most visited national monument

NIZWA FORT IN OMAN (AUGUST 10,2019)
#NIZWAFORT #OMAN
The construction of Nizwa Fort took place in the time of Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya’rubi at the beginning of the 11th century AH / middle of the 17th century AD. The fort structure, which took approximately 12 years to complete, consists of an enormous, earth-filled, stone tower overlaid with traditional cement (saruj). The tower has a diameter of 45 meters, and rises to a height of 34 meters on massive foundations that extend a further 30 meters below ground.
Access to the tower is by way of a dark narrow zig-zagging staircase, where at each turn a heavy wooden door defends against the threat of an assault. The doors are more than 10 centimeters thick and over the lintel of each is an opening for pouring boiling oil onto marauding enemies.
