Travel Photography - Muscat & Nizwa (Oman)
Travel photography experience for travelers from UAE going Muscat and Nizwa in Oman.
I recently visited Oman by road from UAE for three days. My journey started from Dubai leading towards Hilli Border and Al Buraimi in Oman to Muscat. I stayed in Muscat for one full day and next day departed for Nizwa, a beautiful town filled with Arabian culture and history.

Birkat Al-Mawz:
Birkat Al-Mawz is a village in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region of Oman. It is located at the entrance of Wadi al-Muaydin on the southern rim of Jebel Akhdar and home to a restored fort called Bait al Redidah. A road and a walking route through Wadi al-Muaydin up to the Saiq Plateau start from here.
The name Birkat al Mouz literally means “a pool of bananas”. There is now a new town nearby, and the whole area is peppered with a planation of verdant green date trees, while the Jebel Akhdar mountain range presides over the area with an air of authority. The village is nestled at the base of the mountain. The houses are made of mud, and some of them are starting to crumble. It certainly gives me plenty of opportunities to get some nice shots. One of the houses still has an active falaj (water channel) running through it while in another, we came across a pair of men’s shoes and noted the chipped painted remnants of traditional Omani décor. In the old mosque, the roof has fallen in and the beams are forlornly strewn on what remains of the floor. The door still bears its brass knob, though.A few birds can be seen teetering on some of the walls but they are the only living things you will find here, apart from insects.

Nizwa (Arabic: نزوى Nizwā) is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 72,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar.
Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. The birthplace of Younis Al-Riyami, Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area.

Travel Vlog #4: Nizwa, Oman-Part 3
Tanuf is a village located nearly half-way between two of the largest towns in Al Dakhiliya region of Oman: Nizwa and Bahla.
The village was once an crucial part of the region – the first signs of human existence here date back to the pre-Islamic period. Today, ruining mud-brick houses are an indication of its dramatic history.
The ruins of the old village of Tanuf are a curious memorial to the 1957 to 1959 bombings.
