A short film about Gdansk 1970
This is a short film about the events of December 1970 when shipyard workers in Gdansk went on strike to protest against price increases imposed by the Polish government under Wladyslaw Gomulka. They were joined by other workers and people in other cities such as Gdynia, Elblag, Slupsk and Szczecin. The film has been put together by the Polish Press Agency, Music by Kevin MacLeod at Incompetech dot com. The subtitles and translation is mine (and no, I'm not Polish).

This captured German film is a documentary on the Invasion of Poland in 1939 by the German Army.
Historical background:
The Invasion of Poland, also known as the September Campaign (Polish: Kampania wrześniowa), and alternatively the Poland Campaign (German: Polenfeldzug) or Fall Weiss in Germany (Case White), was a joint invasion of Poland by Germany, the Free City of Danzig, the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent, that marked the beginning of World War II in Europe. The German invasion began on 1 September 1939, one week after the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, while the Soviet invasion commenced on 17 September following the Molotov-Togo agreement that terminated the Russian and Japanese hostilities in the east on 16 September. The campaign ended on 6 October with Germany and the Soviet Union dividing and annexing the whole of Poland under the terms of the German-Soviet Frontier Treaty.
German forces invaded Poland from the north, south, and west the morning after the Gleiwitz incident. As the Wehrmacht advanced, Polish forces withdrew from their forward bases of operation close to the Polish–German border to more established lines of defense to the east. After the mid-September Polish defeat near Bzura, the Germans gained an undisputed advantage. Polish forces then withdrew to the southeast where they prepared for a long defense of the Romanian Bridgehead and awaited expected support and relief from France and the United Kingdom. Those two countries had pacts with Poland and had declared war on Germany on 3 September, though in the end their aid to Poland in the September campaign was very limited.
The Soviet Red Army's invasion of Eastern Poland on 17 September, in accordance with a secret protocol of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, rendered the Polish plan of defense obsolete. Facing a second front, the Polish government concluded the defense of the Romanian Bridgehead was no longer feasible and ordered an emergency evacuation of all troops to neutral Romania. On 6 October, following the Polish defeat at the near Kock, German and Soviet forces gained full control over Poland. The success of the invasion marked the end of the Second Polish Republic, though Poland never formally surrendered.
On 8 October, after an initial period of military administration, Germany directly annexed western Poland and the former Free City of Danzig and placed the remaining block of territory under the administration of the newly established General Government. The Soviet Union incorporated its newly acquired areas into its constituent Belarusian and Ukrainian republics, and immediately started a campaign of sovietization. In the aftermath of the invasion, a collective of underground resistance organizations formed the Polish Underground State within the territory of the former Polish state. Many of the military exiles that managed to escape Poland subsequently joined the Polish Armed Forces in the West, an armed force loyal to the Polish government in exile.
Poland Travel Vlog - Gdansk, Sopot & Gdynia - Rope Park, ATV, Gokart & More!
Very recently I was on vacation in Poland with my boyfriend and my family + my sister’s husband. My sister’s husband’s brother and his girlfriend also came to visit us for the weekend. For the most part we stayed in Gdansk, but we also visited Sopot and Gdynia, also called the Tricity. We had a lot of fun during that one week; we explored all three cities, we did some shopping, we went to an Kolibki Adventure Park in Gdynia where we went through a rope park and we drove ATV's, we went to Fun Arena in Gdansk where we drove Gokart's and tried the escape room, we ate a lot of good food and drank a lot of good drinks etc. We had a blast! Hope you enjoy this travel vlog.

Visiting Gdansk
Musicians and other performances at Dluga street. St. Mary's Church is magnificent. 400 steps inside the tower takes you to the roof. Great view! Went on a short boat trip. Best of all the escape room Room of Plenty (not on this video -of course not!). Gdańsk, lovely place to visit!

Rare footage of life in Warsaw Jewish ghetto shown in Poland
An unpublished film shot during WWII by a Polish amateur filmmaker in the heart of the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw is shown for the first time in the Polish capital.
Gdansk, Poland Old Town City tour
Certainly, one of Poland's most beautiful cities Gdansk sits majestically by the Baltic sea and due to its location it played a big role in World War II and suffered extensive damage due to the bombing.
Surprisingly you can barely notice this as the city rebuild it's historic centre very well.
Going to Gdansk by train
We were staying in Sopot a beach town close by so we decided to take the train to Gdansk and it was a short cheap at around €1 and pleasant ride, a great start to the day. The tri-cities ( Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia) are well connected by train and Bus so you will find it easy to travel between them.
Arriving in Gdansk
The city is quite big, touristic and crowded, and you notice it the moment you leave the train, we were visiting in August and even worst during some sort of festivities, probably the worst time of the year to visit, and we felt it was too much at times, even our usual alternatives like going to smaller less touristic streets didn't work much.
Even so, it's easy to see the appeal of the city, it's without a doubt one of the nicest old towns in Europe with bright colours mixed with old tiled building a feast to the eyes.
It's very easy to navigate and stroll around appreciating the architecture.
Is Gdansk Safe?
Yes, we would say so, at no point did we feel insecure visiting with our 3-year-old son. The only downside is that with the number of people in some parts of the old town just like in any large city you should be aware of pickpocketers. Also during our first hours we kind of lost Lukas and his Grandfather as they wandered off for just a few minutes, with the number of people everywhere it's next to impossible to see anyone so for about 15 minutes we were in a bit of a parents panic attack.
Things to do in Gdansk Poland?
Well visiting the old town is surely the first on the list, it's just breathtaking, so be sure to see Dluga Street, Mariacka Street and Motlawa River Embankment.
If you like history visiting the Museum of the II Worl War
Oliwa Cathedral
St Mary's Church
St. Nicholas Church
The Chrane, Zuraw
Neptune's Fountain
Ambersky, scenic circle (even though it's a bit expensive)
Great armoury an amazing building
Train Station
Going by ferry
When it was time to head back to Sopot we decided to take the ferry and see Gdansk and Sopot by sea and it was also worth it, a different experience and an enjoyable relaxing way to travel, even if the weather didn't collaborate much.
Poland: Gdansk mayor stabbing suspect used media pass - police
The mayor of the northern Polish city of Gdansk was rushed to hospital in a critical condition on Saturday, after being stabbed in the abdomen on stage at a charity event in his city.
Pawel Adamowicz was speaking during a fundraiser organised by Poland's largest charitable organisation, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, when he was attacked.
The suspected attacker, a 27 year-old Gdansk local with an extensive criminal record, was arrested at the scene.
According to a police spokesperson the suspect gained access to the stage with a media pass, but it is not yet known how it was acquired.

Sopot - party capital of Poland or more
We spent a week in the Polish coastline and decided to make Sopot our holiday base. It's close to Gdansk so we could easily visit, but at the same time we were close to the beach, have forests to cycle, cheap accommodations and plenty of restaurants, bars and activities. That was our plan and apparently, a lot of people think so too as it's full packed of people, I don't remember seeing such a crowd lately on our travels as we did on our first afternoon there, a sea of people flooded the main street.
But don't worry as with other such places this is kind of limited to the town centre so if you walk a little further you will enjoy quiet soft sandy beaches and a nice family friendly atmosphere.
Things to do in Sopot Beach
Our favourites where:
Beach
There's no denying this is what the main attraction and the reason people consider visiting Sopot. It's a long, clean almost powdery sand beach, with lots of amenities. You can literally walk for miles or just sit on a beach cafe and enjoy the breeze while drinking a cocktail.
Forest walks
We loved walking around the parks and forests that make up the coastline. You'll find that there are many bicycle roads along the coast all of them perfectly maintained if you follow them at least. We took a detour and ended up having to push our bicycles through the sand.
Crooked house
One of the main attractions in Sopot and the building is quite interesting and worth a visit if you're in the area. Inside it's just a cafe and shops but the facade is quite funny and hard to resist paying a visit. At night you can find a nightclub here.
Church of St George(Kościół Garnizonowy pw. św. Jerzego)
This is surely the highlight of Sopot, nice architecture with great details situated in the heart of Sopot. Inside its impressive stained glass provides a shower of coloured lights that at the right time of day should be amazing.
Walk along Sopot's pier
Very long and one of the first places we went to while getting to know Sopot. We didn't actually go to the pier that day as you need to pay to go there, so we decided to visit when we used the boat to go to Gdansk. It's apparently the longest wooden pier in Europe not that the title makes any difference, the truth is walking on these wooden piers is quite enjoyable and somewhat romantic.
Bike tour
Spend an afternoon biking here and we loved it, it was a chance to take all the family to a couple of far away beaches while enjoying the forest trails. We did get lost and found ourselves cycling in the sand so make sure you follow the road.
Windsurf
We love watersports and wanted to try windsurfing here, in the end, we only managed to get one board as everything was booked but we can tell that the reason it was all booked is probably due to the cheap prices of rentals here. They have many water sports activities so you can certainly find something for you, just make sure you do book it early in the morning.
Sopot's lighthouse
I don't think I have ever seen a lighthouse like this, it's a beautiful tower that could be from a palace. The architect constructed a lighthouse and a viewing tower
as a way to conceal a chimney for the boiler that heated the spa waters, quite creative.
Gdansk and back
One of the reasons we chose Sopot was it's proximity to Gdansk that would allow us to visit the city but at the same time stay in a more relaxed environment. We went by train and returned by boat so it was not boring at all and allowed us to see things from land and sea. Gdanks is a must see if you are in the area of course, but you probably already know that.
Hel
Another popular destination, you can get there by train or boat if you are interested in visiting this peninsula. It's a nice small narrow place that makes an excellent day trip. The village is touristic but it makes for a nice walk around the picturesque houses.
Nightlife
Sopot seems to wake up at night. You'll find the streets crowded even late at night in the centre with plenty of bars and nightclubs to choose from.
