Lingering Heat Prompts Crowds to Seek Refuge at Bathing Beach in Qingdao
The lingering high temperature of late has been driving an increasing number of people to relieve sizzling heat at seaside. The bathing beach in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, received throngs of summer holidaymakers Saturday.
At the No. 1 bathing beach, crowds of people were playing at the beach and in the water, fully enjoying the cool and refreshing spatters by the sea.
I have not expected to meet so many people here. We came here at four or five o’clock in the afternoon, intending to avoid the rush hours but there is still a bumper crowd, like dumplings boiled in a pot, said Cui Lu, a visitor to the beach.
According to staff members at the swimming resort, visitors mainly arrive at the beach between 14:00 to 18:00, with the crowd reaching its peak at 16:00.
Because of the persisting high temperature throughout this morning and noon, the crowd at the beach did not reach its peak until 16:00. Today we expect an estimated 130,000 visitors, said Tang Wenzhou, official with the No. 1 bathing beach.
The growing number of tourists has led to rising cases of children getting lost. The broadcasting studio at the beach has to make announcement from time to time to help look for the missing persons.
Tang said that there are some 20 to 30 such cases at the No. 1 bathing beach every day. He suggested that parents ask their kids to remember their names, or phone numbers or other contact information before they start the trip.

Rare mirages rock Qingdao beach
On May 6 at 15:00 a ghostly block of apartments appeared above the sea near Beach No. 1 in Qingdao, east China. Although it remained visible for over 2 hours, few people seemed to have noticed the floating spectacle, perhaps due to the fact it occurred not far off the coast. Mirages rarely appear in Qingdao.

The 5 on 5 Rugby tournament is hosted by the Qingdao Sharks each year on Shilaoren Beach in the Laoshan District of Qingdao. Known for its golden sand and wide open beach, it is a popular destination throughout the year.
Teams from around China came to play in this one day tournament that focuses on being a fun and competitive weekend for all involved.
If you wish to get into some Rugby here in Qingdao players regularly meet up on Sundays to play touch rugby on the beach on Shiloaren Beach.
Rugby in China is growing fast in the main centers and is now played by over 550 students in Qingdao alone.
Qingdao has heaps of options for expats the nightlife here is growing into a really cool craft brewery scene, alone with a whole heap of other activities to keep you entertained.

Algae overwhelms a popular beach in Qingdao, east China. Officials use bulldozers to remove it. The algae boom may have been caused by pollution from industry. The region has had algae booms six years in a row, but this year's is twice as big as the previous largest in 2008. The algae is not dangerous to humans but can suffocate marine life by sucking oxygen from the water.
