Japanese Frog Shrine Festival - Noda Mikoshi Parade 野田みこしパレード
Noda Mikoshi Parade is a Japanese festival where they parade mikoshi (portable shinto shrines) around town to pray for rain for good harvests. Three of the mikoshi are unique. Two of them are shishi or komainu - Chinese lion dogs which are at the entrance of many shrines. The most unique mikoshi is a frog one.
Frogs are tradition symbols of luck. Their appearance is associated with water and rain thus prosperous rice paddies. Frogs are prayed to relieve droughts as what happened in Noda 80 years ago.
Noda is also the HQ of Kikkoman famous for their soy sauce. The mikoshi have tin cans used to store soy sauce that are beaten to give a cool beat to the festivities.
The festival is held at the end of July.

I Carried a Shrine Thru Tokyo!! | My First Japanese Festival
Thanks to my coworkers I got to participate in a local festival in Tsukiji, where people carry mikoshi or portable shrines throughout the town. It was a really cool experience. And it was my first time participating in a Japanese festival, despite the fact that I've been living in Japan for 6 years now!
Mikoshi are used to transport the deity or god from one shrine to another during festivals or when relocating a shrine! Super cool, and I got to hangout with a bunch of super friendly Japanese people!

Japan mikoshi deity car - Walking in Japan 神輿 - 日本でのウォーキング
This object featuring in this video is a mikoshi (神輿) portable shrine. Such shrines are used in Japan to escort a deity into the community for special events such as festivals. The mikoshi is carried on the shoulders of enthusiastic men and women. The man riding at the front leads the participants in chants and guides the procession. The women help keep the beat and energy up through vocalization and body movement. The shrine is made of solid wood and is quite heavy requiring much effort on the part of those who carry it. At the end of the festival the mikoshi will be carried back to the main shrine to return the deity home.

THE PATH OF WILDNESS
The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind
A beast's track through the brush
And the direction of our first inclination
The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.

Mikoshi (Japanese Portable Shrines) Rock at Sone Festival!
Autumn Festival 2018 Day1, at Sone-Tenmangu Shrine, Hyogo, Japan, where they thank to God for the year's harvest. An average portable shrine (mikoshi a.k.a. yassa) weighs 2-3 ton and has wood carvings all over the body with gold ornaments and detailed stitches. Typically, four of the group members are on the drums in the middle of mikoshi, and two stand on it and lead the carriers with chants (yo-i-ya-sa).
