Trekking to MATCHA NOKPANTE , NOKREK by GGHSS , Tura
A trekking by the Students of GGHSS, Tura on 27 Nov 2018 to witness one of the most spectacular tourist spots in Garo Hills. A total number of 15 students along with four teachers and our two transporters and one guide made the trekking possible.
We could take our vehicle only up to Daribokgre Helipad, since the road conditions was not good for our vehicle to take it up to the entrance of NOKREK NATIONAL PARK.
The total trekking distance was approximately 15 km both ways. Even though the distance in numbers look very less but it took us almost 5 hours to reach back to the destination where we have parked our vehicles.

Norek National Park ,the core area of Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, is a national park located approximately 2 km from Tura in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, india.
UNESCO added this National park to its list of Biosphere Reserves in May 2009.Along with Balpakram National Park,Nokrek is a hotspot of biodiversity in Meghalaya.

Nokrek National Park attracts tourists in large numbers - ANI News
Meghalaya, Mar 14 (ANI): Nokrek National Park is located at the highest peak in Garo hills. Carpeted with lush, green vegetation, the biosphere reserve is home to different species of wild animals including elephants and Hoolock Gibbons to name a few. The park has earned the reputation for Memang Narang (orange of the spirits in local language), which is considered mother of germoplasm for Citrus Indica. The park is spread across an area of 47.48 square kms and is lined with rows of varied citrus fruit trees. All important rivers and streams of the Garo Hills region rise from the Nokrek Range, of which the river Simsang, known as Someshwari, is the most prominent. The park and its adjoining villages attract tourists from all walks of life.
