Local's Guide to Nolensville
Nolensville, Tennessee has attracted families for generations, not just for its beautiful landscape, but also for its convenient location, inclusion in Williamson County, and its low property tax rates. The storybook town makes you feel far from it all, but is just a few miles from Nashville, Franklin, and Smyrna, making it an easy commute in nearly any direction.
Being in Williamson County means that Nolensville residents have access to some of the best schools in the state. New elementary, middle, and high schools have recently opened, drawing in families looking for high-quality education. Farmhouses dot rolling hills and newer subdivisions with community amenities are scattered throughout the town, giving residents plenty of choices in their home search.
Stroll through downtown Nolensville and you'll find quaint bed and breakfasts, antique shops with unique finds, and restaurants offering delicious southern fare. The Feed Mill is a must see and offers authentic Amish goods and foods. Stop in to do some shopping and grab lunch or some ice cream to go. Nolensville is home to the original Martin's Barbecue, but be sure to stop by early, as they frequently run out of the favorites. Mill Creek Brewing Company hosts some great events in their taproom, and you can frequently find a great food truck inside for tasty bites to go with your beer.
The town is used to hosting guests as they pass through and plans several great annual parades and events such as their 4th of July fireworks show. The most popular of these is the Buttercup Festival held each spring and featuring arts and crafts, food, and games.
The town offers several parks, soccer and baseball fields, and a dog park to help locals stay active. The Williamson county recreation center provides locals with great resources such as a wellness center, gymnasium, a pool, and fitness rooms. Next door on warm Saturdays you'll find a farmers market with locally sourced produce, meats, and cheeses.
Visit Nolensville during one of its large events or visit on a quieter weekend to get the best of what the town has to offer. You may want to stay a while.

Cromwell is one of Brentwood's new subdivisions and the appeal isn't just the homes.
Schools were number one. That was our most important criteria, said Delilah Jones.
Jones just bought a home here specifically because she wanted her daughters to someday attend Ravenwood High but that won't happen if the new zoning plan takes effect.
Ravenwood and the schools that feed into it are so overcrowded Williamson County School Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney believes he needs to build a new Nolensville High School and a Mill Creek Middle and Elementary School to feed into it.
Looney released the details of his plan to parents Thursday and it does involve some students changing high school tracts.
I understand the hesitancy to leave Ravenwood but the fact is we have to provide sizable relief to Ravenwood High School, said Dr. Looney.
Among the biggest changes, more than 130 students at Sunset Elementary would go to Nolensville Elementary.
Also 35% of the students graduating from Sunset Middle School would go to the new Nolensville High.
That includes students in the Cromwell neighborhood.
Dr. Looney says it was included even though it's closer to Ravenwood because it would take an extra bus to keep the students at Ravenwood.
If I have to serve the same neighborhood two different busses going in opposite directions I have to have two busses two drivers and twice as much fuel, said Dr. Looney.
Still Jones is among those who don't like the change.
She worries it may cost her family home value and her daughters a better school.
We were expecting what we know which was a very top rank school, said Jones.
The plan still needs approval from the Williamson County School Board.
That vote could happen April 21st.

Another visit to the Amish Grocery store!
We love getting to stop in at the amish grocery store, Fountain Acres.
The extra special treat this trip was finally getting to try one of their famous deli sandwiches, made to order.
Oh my!
It was so thick that I couldn't even get my mouth around it! LOL
One of the best sandwiches I have ever had.
The cookies & the donuts were the icing on the cake ;)
This isn't a big haul, but I wanted to show you the goodies we picked up this time around.
Here's a look at our last visit!
I was able to film a bit in the store on that trip.
As always, thanks for watching!
Moonshine Ridge Country Store and Cafe Review
My fiance and I stopped at the Moonshine Ridge Cafe and Country store in 2014 and had to go there again in 2015. The food is great and is a quite place to eat away from the busy town of Pigeon Forge. From Smoky Mountain Gold Cabins:
Moonshine Ridge Country Store and Café is a family owned and operated business that specializes in serving gourmet sandwiches, Bar-B-Que and sweet treats! The country store next door offers lots of samples to try of their jams, salsa's, fudge and more. This is a great way to sell your goods! Give them a taste and they are sold! So when visiting the café be sure to stop by the country store for that special treat!
The Moonshine Ridge Country store and café is easy to find. If you travel the Wears Valley road, state route 321, to Pigeon Forge, you will pass by them on the south side of the road about half way down the mountain. They have a huge parking lot and plenty of seating in the café! So no matter the time of year you will never have to wait to get in!
Moonshine Ridge Menu:
Sandwiches: From $4.99 to $8.99
Smoky Pig BBQ Pork - is slowly smoked and hand pulled! Then it is piled high on grilled Kaisar roll!
this is their signature sandwich by which all other sandwiches are measured!
The 'Ol Smoky Turkey – First the turkey is shaved thin and then grilled with smokehouse bacon and swiss cheese, piled high on a grilled ciabatta roll!
The HillBilly Philly – a sandwich made by first thin slicing steak and then grilling it with peppers and onions! Then they melt mozzarella cheese over the top and pile it all on a grilled hoagie roll!
Moonshine Reuben – a new twist on an old time favorite! The Moonshine Reuben starts with smokehouse bacon that has been cooked in sour kraut! Topped with Swiss cheese and placed on a big slice of grilled swirled rye bread!
Build the Perfect Burger– Take 100% Angus Beef Burger and grill it to perfection. Then you pick and choose the perfect toppings to make your own unique burger! What could be better than that?
Build Your Own Dog– 100% All Beef Hot Dog served on a grilled bun with your choice of toppings! Choose from chili, cheese, onions, sour kraut or cole slaw!
The Perfect Grilled Cheese – filled with soft melted cheese on a perfectly grilled wheatberry bread! You can also add tomato or bacon, yummy!
Smoked Chicken Salad Sandwich– Made from scratch chicken salad served on toasted wheatberry bread with lettece and tomato!
Sweet Treats, Homemade sides and a fountain bar round out the menu at the Moonshine Ridge Café!

Real Estate Tips That Will Save You Money
Are you under the impression that you are educated enough on purchasing real estate? Sometimes it is the little details that make a difference. When you are considering what type of property you would like to purchase, use these tips.
When negotiating with real estate purchases, always use a moderate approach. It can be counter productive to be too aggressive in your bargain hunting. You can have a firm idea of what you want to pay, but let the Realtor and lawyers have some leeway.
Be flexible in making decisions. You may find that your ideal home isn't affordable in your ideal neighborhood, but with a small bit of compromise, you might find an acceptable alternative. Think about settling for a different house or a different area you can afford.
Make sure that you have a little bit of extra money put away in case any unexpected costs pop up when you're buying a home. The closing costs for the buyer is usually determined by adding the pro-rated taxes with the down payment and bank fees. However, there may be additional items such as appraisals, surveys or home association fees.
Buying a fixer upper is a great way to save money and invest wisely. Your property's value will increase quickly if you do this. Often, the increase in value will be more than the cost of the renovation.
Now is the time to invest in real estate. Property values are currently at an all time low because of the housing market crash. This makes it a perfect time to move from that apartment into a home of your own. Since the prices will eventually go up again, if you purchase now, you are sure to make your investment profitable.
The info in this article should have taught you some things about purchasing real estate that will help. Who knows, maybe someone you help out will lead you to success someday.

Mississippi Millie with the Superbad String Band at The Tent (2013)
Videoed in Rob McClain's Nashville Omega Lab Studio. After losing his first backyard studio to a fire, McClain rebuilt in a Gulf War-era army surplus tent. Powered by an array of car batteries that are recharged by current from the adjacent house, the complex is a mad-scientist hybrid of a state-of-the-art recording studio and backwoods survivalist encampment — with one unique advantage over more rigidly built studios. If you can keep down extraneous noises, McClain says, whether it's a jet, motorcycle or thunder, the opportunity for pristine recordings exists because of the lack of sound reflection. This is better than any other studio I've ever worked in.
In this segment, Mississippi Millie is being broadcast on Nashville's Mondo Blues radio show.
