Cycling Route Preview: Shimanami Kaido in Japan
Shimanami Kaido, near Hiroshima, is one of the world's most famous cycling routes leading over many small islands, crossing several bridges. It has a great infrastructure for cyclists with many pitstops, a blue line marking the route on the street and extra island explorer routes if you want to take an extra loop. There are also hotels catering to cyclists. I stayed in Cyclo No Ie in Imabari and U2 in Onomichi wich was both beyond expectation.
Use this handy google map by Cyclo No Ie to find your route and for some tipps along the way. Hint: the lemoncake is delicious.
Cycling Route Preview: Kyoto to Saimyo-Ji Temple
Certainly one of the most scenic rides around Kyoto. On the way up into the mountains you can enjoy a small street with almost no cars to not get disturbed on the steep climb. Once up in the mountains you'll meet a large river riding alond downwards until you reach Saimyo-Ji temple. It's a little off the main road but well worth a visit. If you've got more time, Jingo-Ji temple nearby is even more famous and defintely worth spending some time there.
