YOKOHAMA, Japan: Nissan Stadium, Ramen Museum, Cup Noodles Museum | Vlog 5
Yokohama, Japan is well known for soccer (or football ????) and ramen. In this video, you see the most famous attractions in both fields. In Shin-Yokohama, we visit the Nissan Stadium (also known as Yokohama Stadium), and the Ramen Museum, where you can try some of the best ramen bowls you'll ever have. Food in Japan is always delicious!
The Nissan Stadium is famous for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final and is often used for major events in Japan. In 2020, it will also host Olympic soccer matches. Now that the Rugby World Cup is over, stadium visits have resumed.
From the Ramen Museum, we went to the Cup Noodles Museum, back in Minato Mirai 21, where you can learn about Momofuku Ando, the creator of instant ramen noodles, the history of instant ramen and cupnoodles. We closed the day visiting the mall across the street, World Porters, and enjoying the view from the Ferris wheel at Cosmo World.
Yokohama is perfect for a Tokyo day trip, but my advice? Stay longer ????

Hagiyaki Pottery (萩焼) is among best pottery throughout Japan. In the early 1600s, this skill was brought to Japan from Korea. Hagiyaki Pottery was highly regarded for tea wares and was particularly popular in the Edo Period (1603 to 1867).
Often used in tea ceremony, the tea residuals cause the Hagiyaki Pottery to change colors. Tea enthusiasts were delighted of this changing color aspect. Even now Hagiyaki is higly regarded. Many stores in Hagi sell Hagiyaki tea wares, cups and bowls.
Located in the outskirts of the city, the Yoshika Taibi Memorial Museum features a large collection of valuable Hagiyaki Pottery. In addition, ceramic pieces and paintings done by the museum’s namesake artist/potter are displayed. Visitors have a chance to observe the Hagiyaki process in the workshop in front of the museum. Also, there is a store in front of the visitors where Hagiyaki wares are sold.

Lecture I in my Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories series from May 16th at Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. In this lecture, I describe what I consider to be the idea of God, which is at least partly the notion of sovereignty and power, divorced from any concrete sovereign or particular, individual person of power. I also suggest that God, as Father, is something akin to the spirit or pattern inherent in the human hierarchy of authority, which is based in turn on the dominance hierarchies characterizing animals.

About the route: The historic region of Attock lies at the confluence of two great rivers: the Kabul, which ends here after travelling some 435 km from its source, in the mountains west of the Afghan capital; and the Indus, one of the legendary rivers of Asia, which begins high in the Tibetan Himalayas. Where the two rivers meet, the Kabul appears a muddy burnt-sugar colour, the Indus a brilliant blue-green. Further downstream, the two colours remain clearly visible, one river with two distinct streams, for considerable distance until they slowly accommodate each other.

From Islamabad: Take M1 motorway, exit at Burhan interchange, take GT Road, cross Attock Bridge into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Kund Rest House is located on the main GT Road on right hand side and approximately 1 km from Khairabad.

Kazuo Obara was born in Iwate, Shizuoka prefecture, in 1985, Japan. Photojournalist. He studied sociology at Utsunomiya University and continued his studies at Days Japan Photo Journalism School while working in the financial industry. After the earthquake disaster, voices from his hometown called to him; he resigned from his job to begin documenting what was happening on the frontline. His photographs from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant have been published all over Europe. His photo book Reset. Beyond Fukushima. Will Nuclear Catastrophe Bring Humanity to its Senses was published from Lars Müller Publishers in 2012.

Kokeshi Japanese Wooden Doll - Tiny Naruko Style Ningyo
Description
Lovely tiny (please see size information below) Japanese wooden kokeshi doll with a very worn body with much faded and chipped paint. The doll may also have once held something as there is a hole in the side where an object would have been fixed in place. The object is question is now missing and is not included with the doll. We especially like the effect that this doll's weathered appearance has on the charm and character of the little figure. This pretty doll is less than 40 years old and is in poor to fair condition with marks and scratches from handling and discoloration and stains from age and display. This is a naruko style kokeshi with a special neck joint which allows the doll to squeak when the head is turned. This clever design was developed long ago by craftsmen seeking a way to cause the dolls cry like a baby. Please read below to learn about the history of kokeshi dolls, one of Japan's most unique and distinctive folk crafts.

More about Kokeshi
Kokeshi wooden dolls are one of the most unique and interesting of Japan's many traditional folk crafts. Originating in the early 19th century in the northern spa towns of Miyagi prefecture, kokeshi are thought to have first been produced as toys for children from leftover bits of scrap wood. These early dolls were made by craftsmen who earned their living producing other types of woodcraft, but who eventually began to create kokeshi to be sold as souvenirs in the area's many local hot spring resorts. Over time the craft was refined, with many regional varieties appearing reflecting a wide range of technical and artistic variation. Today there are several schools of kokeshi design led by master craftsmen who often pass their trade to succeeding generations within their own family.
When collecting kokeshi it is important to note that you will likely encounter two main types; dolls which are made by craftsmen and those which are mass-produced to be sold as souvenirs. The former are usually one-of-a-kind originals created by dedicated artisans who take their work very seriously and place great emphasis on traditional design and appearance. The other type of kokeshi are those which are manufactured specifically to be sold as souvenirs of famous or interesting places such as resorts or hot springs. These are produced en-mass, and while often attractive and interesting memorabilia they are not as frequently sought after by collectors and usually command a lower selling price. How can you determine if a kokeshi is a craftsman or souvenir style doll? This is actually quite easy as craftsmen-style dolls are normally signed (on the bottom) by the maker, and may have no other writing on the body of the doll besides decorative calligraphy. Souvenir types on the other hand are normally unsigned and may have the name of the place which sold them conspicuously visible on the body of the doll. Collectors of Kokeshi typically place special emphasis on the facial quality of the dolls, desiring certain types - gentle or mischievous for example - over others. One interesting Japanese Kokeshi collector we previously met expressed a preference for newer dolls over older ones, fearing the older dolls may be haunted.

The following is a detailed summary of the major causes for losses that hurt the savings and loan business in the 1980s. More on the topic:
Lack of net worth for many institutions as they entered the 1980s, and a wholly inadequate net worth regulation.
Decline in the effectiveness of Regulation Q in preserving the spread between the cost of money and the rate of return on assets, basically stemming from inflation and the accompanying increase in market interest rates.
Absence of an ability to vary the return on assets with increases in the rate of interest required to be paid for deposits.
Increased competition on the deposit gathering and mortgage origination sides of the business, with a sudden burst of new technology making possible a whole new way of conducting financial institutions generally and the mortgage business specifically.
Savings and Loans gained a wide range of new investment powers with the passage of the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act and the Garn--St. Germain Depository Institutions Act. A number of states also passed legislation that similarly increased investment options. These introduced new risks and speculative opportunities which were difficult to administer. In many instances management lacked the ability or experience to evaluate them, or to administer large volumes of nonresidential construction loans.
Elimination of regulations initially designed to prevent lending excesses and minimize failures. Regulatory relaxation permitted lending, directly and through participations, in distant loan markets on the promise of high returns. Lenders, however, were not familiar with these distant markets. It also permitted associations to participate extensively in speculative construction activities with builders and developers who had little or no financial stake in the projects.
Fraud and insider transaction abuses.
A new type and generation of opportunistic savings and loan executives and owners—some of whom operated in a fraudulent manner — whose takeover of many institutions was facilitated by a change in FSLIC rules reducing the minimum number of stockholders of an insured association from 400 to one.
Dereliction of duty on the part of the board of directors of some savings associations. This permitted management to make uncontrolled use of some new operating authority, while directors failed to control expenses and prohibit obvious conflict of interest situations.
A virtual end of inflation in the American economy, together with overbuilding in multifamily, condominium type residences and in commercial real estate in many cities. In addition, real estate values collapsed in the energy states — Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma — particularly due to falling oil prices — and weakness occurred in the mining and agricultural sectors of the economy.
Pressures felt by the management of many associations to restore net worth ratios. Anxious to improve earnings, they departed from their traditional lending practices into credits and markets involving higher risks, but with which they had little experience.
The lack of appropriate, accurate, and effective evaluations of the savings and loan business by public accounting firms, security analysts, and the financial community.
Organizational structure and supervisory laws, adequate for policing and controlling the business in the protected environment of the 1960s and 1970s, resulted in fatal delays and indecision in the examination/supervision process in the 1980s.
Federal and state examination and supervisory staffs insufficient in number, experience, or ability to deal with the new world of savings and loan operations.
The inability or unwillingness of the Bank Board and its legal and supervisory staff to deal with problem institutions in a timely manner. Many institutions, which ultimately closed with big losses, were known problem cases for a year or more. Often, it appeared, political considerations delayed necessary supervisory action.

Revealing the True Donald Trump: A Devastating Indictment of His Business & Life (2016)
Trump Revealed: An American Journey of Ambition, Ego, Money, and Power is a biography of Donald Trump, written by Michael Kranish and Marc Fisher. More on the book:
It was first published in 2016 in hardcover format by Scribner. It was released in ebook format that year and paperback format in 2017 under the title Trump Revealed: The Definitive Biography of the 45th President. The book was a collaborative research project by The Washington Post, supervised by the newspaper's editor Marty Baron and consisting of contributions from thirty-eight journalists, and two fact-checkers. Trump initially refused to be interviewed for the book, then relented, and subsequently raised the possibility of a libel lawsuit against the authors. After the book was completed, Trump urged his Twitter followers not to buy it.
The biography discusses the entirety of Trump's life, from his upbringing, his time in military school, to his early experience in real estate investing under his father Fred Trump. Kranish and Fisher delve into Trump's ventures to establish himself in real estate in New York City, and his efforts to become a famous celebrity. They discuss Trump's first meeting with lawyer Roy Cohn, who advised him to always attack as a public relations strategy. The book recounts Trump's usage of pseudonyms John Barron and John Miller in order to increase his own fame and standing, and discusses his successes and failures in business, and his increased celebrity through The Apprentice. The biography provides an overview of major events from the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, including Trump's comments about Mexican rapists, his conflict with journalist Megyn Kelly, and sexual misconduct assertions made by women against Trump. The work concludes with the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Trump Revealed was a commercial success, making the New York Times Bestseller list and The Washington Post Bestseller list. The Philadelphia Inquirer listed it as a Best Book of the Year, and the Los Angeles Times called it a Most Important Book of the Year. Booklist called the biography, The most definitive book about Trump to date. The New York Times characterized research for the work as vigorously reported. The Boston Globe described it as, likely the most complete and nuanced life of Trump thus far. Regarding the book's writing style, USA Today called it a compelling narrative. Kirkus Reviews praised the neutral point of view seen in the authors' journalistic objectivity.
