Fishing Season OPENER in Manitoba!
Ahhh, the anticipation for opening day of fishing season in Manitoba. We started the season off right with an awesome trip to Nopiming Provincial Park in Manitoba's eastern region. The goal was fish new lakes for some of Manitoba's biggest Smallmouth Bass. We even found a couple good Walleyes along the way! Shoutout to Nopiming Lodge for hosting us, make sure to check them out if you're planning a trip in the area!

We went camping for 2 nights at Black Lake campground in Nopiming National Park. We had such a good time. We loved the hike at Ancient Mountain and the lake was beautiful! And we obviously loved the s'mores! ;)

Took a trip out west for the search of some perch. Turned out to be a very slow day with just a few baby sized fish. They were very finicky and lethargic and liked nothing moving, just dead sticked. Hope you enjoy the video featuring my 8 month year old puppy tikka. I used a tugsten jig and wax worm, hook, a split shot and wax worm, buckshot shot spoon and a minnow head.

What a wicked day to catch countless numbers of fish, cruise around in a boat and (unfortunately) try and sleep on a rock. (I slept like garbage the night before) Also, I apologize for the low GoPro audio, this was my first GoPro vid ever????????

The bridge crossing, over the Wanipigow River and downstream of Wanipigow Lake, is part of a new all-season road to Bloodvein First Nation from PR 304; and under construction to the community of Berens River (5-17-25-10E1, NTS 62P1NE, NAD 83, Zone 14U, 694466E, 56668423N).
Summary
The $4.9 million bridge crossing, over the Wanipigow (Hollow Water or Hole) River (and 400 m downstream of Currie’s Landing on Wanipigow Lake), is part of a new all-season road under construction to the community of Berens River, from PR 304. This video shows the bridge crossing over the Wanipigow River (an east-west river and portage corridor) for the early development of the former San Antonio gold mine at Bissett; and of other mines and prospects in the surrounding area).
This video shows the $4.9 million Wanipigow River bridge (completed by Surespan Constuction in 2012). The bridge is part of a new all-season road from the junction with PR 304 to Bloodvein First Nation and under construction to the community of Berens River. The bridge is situated about 400 m downstream of the Wanipigow Dam and Currie’s Landing on Wanipigow Lake (Russell, 1949, p. 3, Map 48-3). According to Manitoba Conservation & Millenium Bureau of Canada (2000, p. 285), the dam was built in 1930 for freight transportation, by controlling the water level of the Wanipigow River and Wanipigow Lake.
The Wanipigow (Hollow Water or Hole) River was the early east-west pathway for the early development of the former San Antonio gold mine at Bissett; and of other mines and prospects in the surrounding area. In the early 1900s, supplies for the former San Antonio Mine were transported either by boat from Riverton (located on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg), across the lake and then 14.5 km up the lower reaches of the Wanipigow River to a lower landing; and then by 3.2 km by portage (later made into an all-weather road shown on Map 48-3 by Russell (1949)) to Currie’s Landing. Alternatively in later years, the boat from Riverton went to Manigotogan, and then the supplies were transported by vehicle on the Manigotagan Road (Map 50-2 by Davies (1951) and Map 46-3 by Russell (1949)) to Currie’s Landing. It should be noted that the upgrade and expansion of the San Antonio Mine in 1930 and 1931 was facilitated by the higher water levels of the lake and river made possible by The Wanpigow Dam, mentioned above. According de Wet (1931, p 812), cement, construction materials and supplies destined to be used in the construction of a 150-tonne cyanide mill at Bissett were transported across Lake Winnipeg by boat from Riverton and then up the Wanipigow River route during the summer of 1931.
At Currie’s Landing, the supplies were loaded onto other smaller boats and shipped 27. 4 km upstream along the length of Wanipigow Lake and then back into the channel of the Wanipigow River, (east of Wanipigow Lake), where they were off-loaded at the Government Landing (Davies, 1949, p. , Map 48-2). Then, they were again transported for 16 km along an all-weather Government road (also shown on Map 48-2 and continuing on Map 49-3 of Davies (1950)) to the San Antonio mine site.

1. The part of the boardwalk on Hansons creek washed out in last summer floods and we had to cross the creek without the boardwalk. The ice on the creek was very thin and I got my legs falling into the ice three times and wet. You should step on a bunch of grass for protecting falling into the ice.
2. After crossing the Hansons creek, we lost the trails because a sign indicated to go right side. However, it was wrong. we had to go left side of the boardwalk. We spent more than 30 minutes to find the trails. When we came back to the trailhead, we realized the sign was wrong.
Anyway, the trail was ok and good for hiking & walking.
