Entry Title: Norbulingka, Dalai Lama's Summer palace, Lhasa
Entry:
Norbulingka translating as The Jewelled Park was originally the Dalai Lama's Summer Palace in Lhasa. The reason that it was called The Jewelled Park was because the Palace was not only surrounded by stunning gardens it was also ornamented by a rainbow of colour on its terraces. When we went there were pots of flowers in every colour adourning them. There still is a beautiful garden there and a million teracotta pots filled with Marigolds point the way to walk round. (ALWAYS in a clockwise direction)
The Dalai Lamas of past resided here in Summer up until the 1780s and the entire Palace was covered in Ruby. Sapphire and Jade. All the way until when the PCR - (Peoples Republic of China) takeover sadly in the late 1950s. The precious stones were then replaced with flowers by locals.
* East Asian religion and rule has a deep part to play. Its ancient civilization traditionally dates to 2700 B.C. After a bitter civil war a people's republic led by Mao Zedong was established on the mainland, and the Nationalists fled China. At the time Taiwan had the highest settlement. However, as we are in 2009, and not the 1950's Beijing is now is the Capital (Shanghai is actually still the largest populated City though, with a Population of 320,000,000). This is confusing, to say the least! but Tibet and China's history is clearly a complicated story!
In the context of our journey we were here for the essence of the absolute peace and tranquillity that this magnificent City of Tibet had to offer

Kendog Best of Mountain Kingdoms - Lhasa 10-13-17
Bused this morning to a street area that was somewhat closed by shopping times, we eventually ended up to a traditional Tibetan hospital. Walking up a couple of flight of stairs we were lead into a large room waiting for a practicing teacher physician to give us a short version of what they are doing and how this practice works. I was amazed at how many years goes into this, but chuckled inside when told about patients that like the old established person(physician) over the younger ones if their suggestions don’t work. We were next bused to the Barkhor Street area that leads to the Jokhang Temple and square. This temple is one of the oldest and most revered temples in Lhasa as well as Tibet and is closely watch by the Chinese government. The Dali Lama has a throne here and beautifully laid out went he saw people. After lunch at an upstairs tea house/ restaurant we had some free time to explore the square and vendors. We were next taken the precious stone garden or Norbulingka a summer palace or garden temple where kings, princess and Lamas enjoyed staying. This place has a rich history of art work and buildings. After dinner a group of us went for a walk to enjoy the street life and of course take pictures.
