Burton Pynsent - Curry Rivel, Somerset.
The 140 feet (43 m) Burton Pynsent Monument on Troy Hill at Burton Pynsent, within the parish of Curry Rivel, Somerset, England, was built in 1767 and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.[1]
Alternative names for the tower, which stands on Troy Hill, a spur of high ground about 700 m north-east of Burton Pynsent House, include the Curry Rivel Column, Pynsent Column, Pynsent Steeple or Cider Monument.[2]
The monument, which is clad in Portland Stone, was designed by Capability Brown and built by Philip Pear,[3] at a cost of £2,000,[4] for William Pitt as a monument to Sir William Pynsent,[5] of the Pynsent Baronets.
Pynsent was grateful to Pitt for opposing a ten shilling tax on a hogshead of cider (1763 Cider Bill), which would have affected his business, so on his death he left his entire estate to Pitt.[6][7] Pitt then used some of the income from the estate (£3000 per annum) to erect the monument to his benefactor.
In June 1948 it was reported that a heifer climbed the 172 steps to the top of the monument, but was later returned safely to her hillside pasture.[8]
The tower was restored in the 1990s by the John Paul Getty Trust and English Heritage.[2]

Bishop Curry urges Christians act like John Wayne
Bishop Michael Curry of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina is laying on the line for the national conference of CEEP (Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes) in Charlotte in Lent 2012. In this clip of his sermon at Christ Church Charlotte, he urges all followers of Jesus to saddle up in a time when lots of folks have thrown off all religion and sometimes for good reason! He urges that it's gonna take courage to follow That Jesus! -- The one who touched lepers and set the captives free!
(Personal note: I just love Michael Curry! Mainly for his theology and message, of course. But also, as a civil litigation attorney, I put him on my YouTube page because I so admire how he can capture someone's attention and never let it go! --mcd)
Closing Hymn at 2017 Anglican Joint Synods in Atlanta, Georgia, USA
From 4th - 6th October 2017 delegates from the Anglican Catholic Church (Diocese of the United Kingdom) attended the biannual Synod of the Original Province of the Anglican Catholic Church in The Crowne Plaza Perimeter at Ravinia, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
This year the Synod was held in conjunction with the highest level of Synods of 3 other continuing Anglican jurisdictions: The Anglican Church in America (APA), The Anglican Province of America (APA) and The Diocese of the Holy Cross (DHC). For some years our four Churches have been growing closer together.
Our Bishop, The Right Revd Damien Mead, attended meetings of the Administrative Council, College of Bishops and Trustees of the Original Province at the beginning of Synod Week.
The concluding day of our gathering, Friday 6th October, saw those attending the Synods gather in worship - this is a tiny clip of the recessional hymn.

Burnham-on-Crouch is a town and civil parish in the Maldon District of Essex in the East of England. It lies on the north bank of the River Crouch. It is one of Britain's leading places for yachting. The civil parish extends 5 miles (8 km) east of the town to the mouth of the River Crouch. It includes the hamlets of Creeksea and Ostend west of the town, Stoneyhills to the north and Dammer Wick, West Wick and East Wick east of the town.
Historically, it has benefited from its location on the coast – first as a ferry port, :119 later as a fishing port known for its oyster beds, and most recently as a centre for yachting. :132 There are many listed buildings in the town, including the Grade II* listed Royal Corinthian Yacht Club designed in 1931 by the modernist architect Joseph Emberton. The Mangapps Railway Museum is located nearby.

The branch line was electrified in the 1980s, and provides off-peak services to Wickford with direct services to and from London Liverpool Street during rush hour, thus allowing the town's inclusion in the London commuter belt.
Burnham-on-Crouch holds a bi-annual charity fund-raising pub crawl, an event which first took place in June 2007. Typically more than 100 local people walk through the town in themed fancy dress raising money for The Samaritans. There is both a summer and winter edition of the crawl.
The town has two community-based magazines, the larger of the two is The Burnham on Crouch and Dengie Focus which is delivered to every house and business in Burnham and Southminster and can be picked up from collection points throughout Dengie. The other is the Burnham and Dengie Hundred Review, it is smaller in size, A5 and is delivered free across the Dengie.

UK: NORTHERN IRELAND PROTEST AND VIOLENCE
English/Nat
Tensions are rising in Northern Ireland ahead of a planned Protestant march through Drumcree.
Masked loyalist gunmen from the paramilitary Ulster Freedom Fighters fired a volley of shots in a Loyalist estate in Portadown.
The group read out a statement proclaiming that murdered Loyalist Volunteer Force commander Billy Wright did not die in vain before discharging a number of rounds into the air late on Monday.
And it looks that tensions will remain high throughout the week, as both communities try and gain the upper hand: this derelict house in a loyalist estate was set ablaze, lighting up the night sky.
An ominous prelude to the possible violence ahead.
In Drumcree on Friday loyalist protesters and police clashed for a second day after the province's Parades Commission banned the bitterly divisive Protestant march through a Catholic neighbourhood for the third year running.
The Portadown march, which commemorates the Battle of the Somme in World War I, has caused violence whether or not police have permitted the Orangemen to parade.
Police forced Catholic protesters off the Garvaghy road in 1996 and 1997, provoking riots in many Catholic areas, but have banned the parade route since 1998, triggering Protestant disturbances.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Fellow loyalists once again the British government and the IRA are trying to take away our God-given right to complete the march from Drumcree church. Step by step they are trying to walk over us and get us to lie down. We cannot let this happen.

SOUNDBITE: (English)
Brigadier Billy Wright (NOTE: Wright founded the Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) in 1996. He was killed in December 1997 - NOTE ENDS) did what he had to do to ensure that our faith and culture was kept intact. The spirit of Billy lives on and every member of the LVF and all other true loyalists, like our comrades of the UFF 2nd Battalion C Company. It is up to us to make that he did not die in vain. It is up to us to defend our country. No surrender!
