Eiger Trail Hiking Grindelwald Switzerland July 2016 Alps Alpine
Away from Ulster this time, I got to walk the Eiger Trail, along the base of the Eiger Nordwand (North Face.) Being a bit of an armchair mountaineer, this was special for me. Since reading The White Spider by Heinrich Harrer I have been fascinated and in awe of this, the greatest of all the alpine north faces.
Undiscovered Singletrack Glory In The Shadow of the Eiger - Singletrack Switzerland Jungfrau
In the third and final episode of Singletrack Switzerland, a new Teton Gravity Research mountain bike project produced in partnership with Swiss International Air Lines, Switzerland Tourism, and BMC Switzerland, two American mountain bikers – pro rider Brice Shirbach, and pro skier Carston Oliver – join up with Enduro World Series destroyer Francois Baily-Maître to venture to the Jungfrau Region Switzerland, where they explore the little-known but incredible trails in a region rich with mountaineering and outdoor sport history with the help of Epic Europe.

Hiking the Swiss Alps in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland - Family Hiking Made Easy in the Swiss Alps
We were in Switzerland this summer. In Hiking the Alps in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland - Family Hiking Made Easy in the Swiss Alps we take the kids on an alpine hiking adventure, only it's super easy because we take the Gondelbahn up from Grindelwald and just follow the signs. It's great exercise for everyone. We could have taken the train down from Kleinsheidegg but opted for the steep downhill path which left our legs oh so tired. The first part of the walk was very level and accessible though and the views down into the Lauterbrunnen valley on one side and Grindelwald on the other were amazing. We could look up and see the North Face of the Eiger as well as the train disappearing into the mountain on its way to the Jungfrau Top of Europe. The weather in Wengen area this day was a beautiful sunny but cool and refreshing. After a brief stop at the playground and restaurant / biergarten at the top, we headed off. We stopped for a beer midway and finished up in Wengen where our holiday apartment accommodation is.
I've tried something a little different on this one by using a wide screen format. I hop you like it.
See more details on the blog: . Also, 4k Switzerland video is much more fun to play with than HD Switzerland footage. The mountains of switzerland 4k are pretty cool.

Walking in the Swiss Alps (Switzerland vlog #3)
A day at Murren walking from Allmendhubel back to Murren. Stunning scenery and a wonderful day.

Lauterbrunnen - Grutschalp - Murren Day Hike Swiss Alps Switzerland
A quick glance at the town of Lauterbrunnen at night and during the day, with views of Staubbachfall. The Swiss alps is probably the most beautiful mountain ranges in Europe. The fact that people can get up and close to the mountains, the ease of accessing the hiking trails, and quaint little scenic towns along the way. This is the first part of my hike, which started from Lauterbrunnen. I took the cable car up to Grutschalp, and hiked all the way to Murren. music credit to KatMaestro

Switzerland's Jungfrau - Grindelwald First to Schynige Platte - The Panorama Way
Switzerland's Jungfrau & Grindelwald First to Schynige Platte Panorama Way
Switzerland’s Jungfrau Region (Berner Oberland) renders you speechless – we can’t when we said “Wow” so often. Made me dance at Bachalpsee, lol! (see video).
We defy you not to get frothy about the dreamy landscapes, geological wonders & superb Swiss engineering. Seilbahns (cable cars) deliver you upon high to walk or marvel. Walking's not mandatory - enjoy sumptuous views from the cafés at First or Schynige Platte.
The Jungfrau & Valais Regions are home to the tallest & most vast glacial region in Switzerland. I assumed the Aletsch Glacier was the best-of-the-best. The Jungfrau delivers equal awesomeness!!! Glaciers are retreating with global warming. Lower glaciers may disappear in the next 20 years so best get to the Jungfrau now.
We take the cable car from Grindelwald to First. Picture postcard chalets, with red geraniums flowerboxes, nestle into the verdant green slopes & clanging cowbells drift into the cable-car from far below. Soon forgotten as the Swiss Alps & glaciers, take centre stage. Rick Steves reckons this is where Heidi lives. More like Bollywood! We shared the magnificently engineered First Cliff Walk with a wedding & hoards of early tourists.
Next stop was magical Bachalpsee, mirroring the “Imperial Crown” – Finsteraarhorn (4,274m/14,022ft), Fiescherhorner (4,049M) & Schreckhorn (4,078m) . Bollywood's blockbuster DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) was filmed nearby – catnip for Indian tourists.
Japanese tourists are smitten – many marry here.Who wouldn’t want an infinity view of the Swiss Alps in their wedding photos?
Moving onto Falhorn at 2,681m / 8,796 ft (our highest point for this walk) we have superb 360 degree views of The Jungfrau & Interlaken. Snow's fallen overnight. The trail's quiet at the end of the season & will close soon.
Pace slows as I film the majesty - 4,000m / 13,000 ft + mountains, glaciers, hanging U-shaped valleys. Grindelwald’s glacial canyons & surreal blue glacial lakes…
We keep a steady pace to catch the last train from Schynige Platte.
Our reveries are punctuated by the sonic boom of fighter jets, practising overhead. They take defence seriously (hiding jets inside mountains).
100 years ago Italian labourers drilled a rail tunnel through the Eiger & Jungfrau for the impressive Jungfrau Top of The World Train (stops 704m / 2,310ft short of the Jungfrau’s 4,158m summit). Without a train pass it’s hundreds of dollars. Pick a good weather day to see the start of the 23km Aletsch Glacier (Alps' longest).
We make our way to Schynige Platte (great picnic spot for a shorter walks arriving by train) passing through a huge boulder field to catch the train back down to Wilderswil (interchange for Interlaken & Grindelwald). It's a track & pinion (Cog) railway = steep & slow (60 minutes to reflect on a stellar day).
Swiss trails are magnificently maintained & signposted. Select the level of walk from a sauntering walking trail, mountain trail (white-red-white) to alpine routes (white-blue-white). The weather was so fabulous we had no excuse but to walk every day!!

Hiking in the Swiss Alps | Royal Ride up to Männlichen and hike down to Kleine Scheidegg
A perfect day out in the Swiss Alps starting in the gorgeous valley town of Lauterbrunnen. This is the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. Take the Wengernalpbahn (train) from Lauterbrunnen up the hillside to Wengen where you'll find the Männlichen cable car to take you to the top. If you're brave enough to ride on the balcony of the gondola, the views from the Royal ride are amazing. Especially on a clear day.
At the top, march up the Männlichen Royal Walk for 360-degree views of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks, down into Wengen and even into Lauterbrunnen. Watch paragliders sails off peaks and butterflies flit between wildflowers. These hills are indeed alive.
Take the Panoraweg trail from here down the little mountain outpost of Kleine Scheidegg. Along the way listen to the tinkling and clanking of cow bells up and down the hillsides. Plan 1.5 to 2 hours for the hike down depending on how many vistas you must stop to take in. There will be many.
It's all kinds of beautiful and easy enough for all ages. Read more on the blog at

Grindelwald, Switzerland - The Beautiful Jungfrau, Eiger, Männlichen Mountains
Short compilation of our trip to the stunning Swiss Alps mountain ranges around Grindelwald, including Jungfrau, Eiger, Männlichen. We stayed in Grindelwald and did day trips on the trains and cable cars, visiting all the surrounding mountains and villages. Highly rerecorded during summer or winter.
The Jungfrau is known as the top of Europe, is over 4000m high and accessible only via the Jungfrau Railway which runs 9 kilometres from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch, between the Bernese Highlands and the Valais in Switzerland.
The mountains provide stunning cable car journeys and walks that are an unforgettable experience!

Despite what we my have heard, this is not the north face the brand was named after! No worries though. This will still be a memory worth cherishing. Traveling through Switzerland this summer for two weeks. We have now arrived to the reason why we have come here for Wengen. Today this travel vlogger from the Houston / Austin Texas will be creating a vlog for you all to enjoy of the Monch Jungfrau and the North Face of the Eiger. Wondering what to do in Switzerland, this should def be on your list.
