Northampton Free Camp, Geraldton W.A.
The Northampton Free Campsite is a new site situated in the small historical town of Northampton approximately 52kms north of Geraldton WA. Located near the local golf club house, the site is only available for fully self-contained vehicles. Their listing can be found inside Free Range Camping at
There is some shade available, and the sites are spacious and grassy. It is a great place to stopover for 24 hours however you may stay longer with approval from the council. Pets are permitted on a leash and generators are permitted for a max of 2 hours.
Further information and all camp rules are available for all to read on a large sign at the site entrance. A dump point only 1½ km from the site.
HOW TO GET THERE
From Geraldton, travel north on the North West Coastal Highway (National Route 1) for approximately 52 km. When coming into Northampton you will see the Northampton Tavern on the left side of the highway. Take the first right hand turn after the tavern into Stephen Street. When travelling southbound on the North West Coastal Highway turn left just after the Northampton Visitors Information Centre into Stephens Street.
Drive down Stephens Street for about 1.5 kms until you come to a sign saying Hamersley St (left) Golf Club (right). Turn right and head towards the Golf Club.
SITE ACCESS
Follow the road for about ½ km towards the Golf Club. The small clubhouse will be on the right and the entrance to the campsite is on the left just past the club.
FEES & BOOKINGS
No bookings needed. Free camping for FSCV only. There is no charge for the use of this facility, so if you are staying at this site we encourage you to help keep it clean, and please visit and support the nearest town or village. Max stay is 24 hours unless otherwise approved.

Dream debut for hat-trick wing Artemyev
Russian winger Vasily Artemyev scored a hat-trick on his debut and Jamie Elliott bagged two tries as Northampton beat Saracens 36-6 at Franklin's Gardens in the opening round of the LV= Cup.

Northampton came into the match with just two wins in the opening six matches of Aviva Premiership Rugby and were facing a Saracens team on a five-match winning streak. But Saints looked well organised in defence and eager to attack and thoroughly deserved their victory.
And they found a hero in the pacy Artemyev, whose treble included a try with his first touch in Saints colours after joining the club from VVA-Podmoscovye and then missing the start of the season on World Cup duty in New Zealand.
He was one of two World Cup players returning to the Saints starting line-up, with back rower Tom Wood also starting having played two matches in England's ill-fated campaign. His England teammates Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes both came off the bench, as did Tongan prop Soane Tonga'uiha. Saracens opted not to use any of their returning internationals.
Saints made the most of the good conditions by showing greater adventure and a willingness to keep the ball in hand. That paid early dividends as they were ahead after just three minutes, Artemyev scoring a nicely taken try on the right wing after a great break by lock James Craig had shredded the Saracens defence. Ryan Lamb's successful conversion gave the home side the early 7-0 lead.
Spencer pulled Saracens back to 7-3 with a penalty but patience from the home side paid off just after the half hour mark. With Saracens centre Kameli Ratuvou sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on, Saints were able to build pressure with good possession deep in the visitors' half.
And it was Artemyev again on the right wing whose pace took him through the Saracens defence for his second try to put his side 14-3 up once Lamb had slotted the conversion. The Russian's pace will clearly be a useful attacking weapon for Saints, who have scored just eight tries in their six Aviva Premiership matches this season.
Spencer struck an easy penalty just before the break to keep his side in touch at 14-6 and limit the damage of Ratuvou's enforced absence.
Saints flirted with unnecessary danger just as half-time beckoned, with an ambitious counter-attack from deep in the own half before calmer heads prevailed and the ball was belted into the sun-drenched Tetley's Stand. The home side took a deserved lead into the changing rooms.
Lamb's drop goal three minutes after the break stretched Saints' lead to 17-6, then the fly-half created Artemyev's third try with a grubber kick which Saracens fullback Ben Ransom failed to collect. The Russian showed his poacher's instinct to grab the loose ball and dive over for his hat-trick. Jamie Elliott's converted try a few moments later wrapped up a bonus point for Saints and made it 29-6.
Returning internationals Lawes, Hartley and Tonga'uiha came on as replacements, providing further steel to a forward pack which had already acquitted itself well in front of the 11,513 crowd.
Elliott bagged his second try with five minutes remaining, Stephen Myler's successful conversion from a difficult angle providing the coup de grace.

CARNARVON WESTERN AUSTRALIA WA
Carnarvon is a coastal town situated approximately 900 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. It lies at the mouth of the Gascoyne River on the Indian Ocean. The popular Shark Bay world heritage area lies to the south of the town. At the 2001 census, Carnarvon had a population of 7,190.[1]
History
The town was founded in 1883, initially as a port and supply centre for the surrounding region, and is the administrative centre for the Shire of Carnarvon, the town site was officially gazetted on 4 June 1891.

Carnarvon has a warm to hot semi-arid climate. Average yearly rainfall is 226mm with the rainiest months (and the most reliable rainfall) being in May and June. Occasionally tropical cyclones will influence Carnarvon and bring very heavy rain and strong winds but apart from this erratic source of rainfall summers are otherwise dry. Temperatures range from an average maximum of 33°C in February to 22°C in July. Average minimums are 23°C and 11°C respectively.

Main industries of the area have included
wool agriculture, particularly bananas and tomatoes more recently, tourism.
During the 1960s, NASA set up a tracking station nearby to support the Gemini and Apollo space program. The tracking station was closed in the mid 1970s. Only the foundations of what was an historical site remain.
Radio Australia had a shortwave relay station (built during the 1970s) that used to relay programming to Europe, South Asia and South East Asia.

Kalbarri - Western Australia
Kalbarri is a coastal town in the Mid West region located 592 km north of Perth, Western Australia. The town is found at the mouth of the Murchison River and has an elevation of 6 metres (20 ft). It is connected by public transport to Perth via Transwa coach services N1 and N2.
The local Aboriginal people inhabited the area for thousands of years and have a dreaming story about the Rainbow serpent forming the Murchison River as she came from inland to the coast. The first European people to visit the area were the crew of the trading ship belonging to the Dutch East India Company, the Batavia, who put two mutinous crew members ashore near Bluff Point just south of the town. The cliffs near the river mouth were named after another trading ship, the Zuytdorp, that was wrecked there in 1712. The area became a popular fishing and tourist spot in the 1940s and by 1948 the state government declared a townsite. Lots were soon surveyed and the town was gazetted in 1951. Kalbarri was named after an Aboriginal man from the Murchison tribe and is also the name of an edible seed.
The town is geared towards tourism and fishing, with attractions including the daily pelican feeding, the Kalbarri National Park, Murchison River Gorge and the Murchison River. There are two charter boats to go on to view the Murchison River. The town attracts 200,000 tourists every year with the population of the town swelling to 8,000 during holiday seasons.
The Kalbarri National Park is home to a phenomenon of geography and geology known as the Z Bend, a walking track, and Nature's Window, a rock formation overlooking hundreds of kilometres of Murchison River. The Rainbow Jungle (The Australian Parrot Breeding Centre), located a few kilometres south of the town centre, features hundreds of exotic species of birds in their native habitat plus a walk-in cage allowing humans to interact with the birds. Red Bluff and other coastal cliffs and formations are located south of the town.
Recreational fishing is also popular, with good catches being taken from the beaches at Wittecarra Creek as well as from the numerous cliffs.
Kalbarri was featured at the end of the film Wolf Creek when character Ben Mitchell (Nathan Phillips) was airlifted to hospital from Kalbarri Airport.
