8 Unbelievable AMERICAN Archaeological Discoveries
From a mysterious stone chamber cave to these incredible “serpent mounds”, here are 8 Unbelievable Archaeological Discoveries in America
8. Lake Winnipesaukee Mystery Stone
Located in New Hampshire, Lake Winnipesaukee covers over sixty nine square miles of land, making it the largest lake in the entire state. Popular with boaters, the lake’s shores provide quite a fun tourist destination due to their scenic views and ease of access. In 1872, a large, egg shaped stone was discovered by a crew working on a fence near the lake’s shore just outside of Meredith, New Hampshire. The discovery was credited to the man who hired the workers, Seneca Ladd, who passed the stone on to his daughter upon his death. Mrs. Frances Ladd Coe donated the weird artifact shortly thereafter, gifting it to the New Hampshire Historical Society in 1927. This is basically the extent of what we know about the stone’s origin. It is speculated that the artifact was perhaps a peace treaty between two tribes of natives. Holes drilled in the stone are believed to have been made using a 19th or 20th century tool, making it possible the artifact is actually a fraud, though historians are unsure.
7. The Dare Stone
The disappearance of the Roanoke Colony is one of America’s greatest mysteries of all time. Called the “lost colony”, the one hundred settlers of Roanoke disappeared during the harsh winter of 1590. The only indicators of the settlers existence were the abandoned town and the words “Croatoan” and “Cro” carved into wooden structures. In the centuries following, little has been found to shed any light at all on the fate of those settlers, though many believe they attempted to escape the area for an unknown reason and perished on their way to the nearby Harper’s Island, which was, at the time, known as Croatoan Island. In 1937, a California man driving through North Carolina discovered a twenty one pound rock covered in bizarre etchings. After being examined by the Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, researchers believe that the stone was a sort of letter from settler Eleanor White Dare to her father, John White, the governor of the colony who had returned to England in search of supplies for the struggling town. Upon his return, he discovered the entirety of the group gone, including his daughter and granddaughter. Rough deciperings of the stone has caused a new idea to form, that Native Americans killed all but seven of the colonists, who were taken hostage, though there is still much disagreement on the validity of the stone itself. An advanced study is planned to solve the debate once and for all.
6. The Gault Site
Discovered just north of Austin, Texas, the Gault site has changed our understanding of ancient American history entirely. For years we believed that the Clovis culture was the first to form on the continent; artifact findings backed this theory thoroughly. Discovered in 2002, the Gault site contains tools and human tooth fragments that date back to be over 16,700 years old, placing them at a full three thousand years older than the oldest Clovis findings. The cache contains over ninety individual stone tools, some of which are quite advanced for their time. Many of the oldest tools discovered on the site were even made using entirely different methods than those of the Clovis! The site dig is still ongoing with new discoveries being found semi-regularly.
5. Poverty Point
Located near the village of Epps in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana, Poverty Point is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Northeast Louisiana, or as it is affectionately called, NELA.
4. The Upton Chamber Cave
Called the “most spectacular stone chamber in New England”, the Upton Chamber Cave is a marvel of masonry. In an area packed full of stone chambers, the structure, which is located just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, stands out for a couple of reasons. First off, the structure stands out as one that was likely built under the influence of eighth century Irish monks.

Small town gangs in Georgia
You may remember the story about four LaGrange teenagers who say they were approached by a gang member.
Those teenagers said no and in turn asked the CEO of the housing authority for jobs, several times and never gave up.
Police say gangs are no longer just an inner city problem and it exists in small towns too.
Top 7 DEADLIEST TORNADOES in US
Did you know that the United States has on average 1200 tornadoes every year? This is more tornadoes than any other country in the world.
Here are the top 7 deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history.
#7
On May 22 2011, an EF5 tornado, which is considered to be in the same class as the most powerful tornadoes, struck Joplin, Missouri. The Joplin tornado had winds estimated to reach 400 Km/h.
It left 160 people dead, and over 1,100 injured.
The cost in damages were enormous, costing in-between 2.8 to 3 billion dollars, making this tornado the single most expensive tornado in U.S. history.
3 quarters of Joplin had been damaged, with over 7000 houses completely destroyed, and another 850 damaged.
#6
On April 9th 1947, an F5 tornado swept through 3 states, Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. It is believed to have been an entire family of 8 to 9 other tornadoes.
It left 181 dead, with 970 injured, with most of these coming from Oklahoma, where the tornado was at its worst.
Estimated damage cost when considering current value is around $700 million.
#5 & #4 actually go together, because while they were 2 separate tornadoes, they happened only 1 day apart and from the same family of tornadoes. It's named the 1936 Tupelo-Gainesville tornado outbreak.
On April 5th & 6th 1936, at least 12 tornadoes landed in the Southern United States. The fifth and fourth deadliest tornadoes happened in Tupelo, Mississippi, and Gainesville, Georgia though.
The total death count from these 2 tornadoes is 419. 203 from Gainesville, and 216 from Tupelo. The actual death count is estimated to be higher, but newspapers back then only included the deaths of white people.
#3
On May 27th 1896, a massive outbreak of tornadoes hit St. Louis. There were 14 confirmed tornadoes, 4 of them being F4s.
The third most deadly tornado in U.S. history landed in St.Louis, Missouri. It left a 1 mile wide trail of destruction, killing 137 people on its way to East St.Louis, Illinois, where another 118 lost their lives.
The official death count is 255, with estimates going over 400.
#2
On May 7th 1840, a tornado landed in Natchez, Mississippi. It moved directly along with the Mississippi River, eventually getting to the riverport of Natchez Landing.
Most of the deaths were on the river, mainly due to flatboats sinking, along with their passengers. The official death count is 317, but similar to what was stated earlier, they didn't include slave lives back then, so actual death count may be much higher.
#1
The deadliest tornado in U.S. history happened on March 18th, 1925. This tornado was part of an outbreak, and it alone spanned 3 states giving it the name Tri-State Tornado.
It left the longest known trail of destruction in the world, spanning 151 to 235 miles, or 243 to 378 kilometers. It went from Ellington, Missouri to southwest illinois, then finally to Petersburg, Indiana.
It alone killed 695 people, with the majority of the deaths coming from Illinois and destroyed 15,000 homes.
And those are the 7 deadliest tornadoes in recorded US history!

2019 Hospital Hero Jason Grady, Northeast Georgia Health Systm
Jason Grady is the regional coordinator of the Northeast Georgia Regional STEMI System, which is a collaboration of care provided by EMS personnel, hospital emergency departments, cath labs, and interventional cardiologists of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. These groups coordinate to provide rapid care to patients suffering a STEMI.
Grady worked with the hospital’s foundation to ensure that all trucks in the 17-county service area were outfitted with special EKG machines that can transmit ECG data directly from the truck to the ER, streamlining the care process for patients. Additionally, paramedics on duty can call the hospital dispatch center, which triggers the cath lab call team based on a trust in the paramedic’s diagnosis. This allows patients to bypass the ER and go straight to the cath lab.
This STEMI program, with Grady’s guidance and leadership, has become a national model. Teams from all over the country travel to NGMC to learn about the program and how to implement it in their facilities.
