Northern Pacific Railroad Depot in Wallace Idaho
Northern Pacific Railroad was completed from the east into the Silver Valley about 1890, and the Depot, now reset in a new location dates back to that time.
Wallace, Idaho
Wallace is located in the heart of Idaho's silver mining region, and the area has produced more silver than any other mining district in the United States. The area saw a lot of contention between miners and the mine owners - the Army had to come in a couple times to settle things down.
I-90 was built through Wallace on a raised viaduct. The original proposal called for a surface level highway, but that would have destroyed much of the city. Local leaders were able to get downtown Wallace designated as the Wallace Historic District, which spared the historic heart of the city. Minig is still done in the area, but Wallace now draws tourists for the city itself and for access to nearby mountains, trails and lakes.

W12A0056 - This sculpture of a Silver Valley mining family is located on the grounds of the Wallace Visitor Center along with a lot of mining equipment
W12A0071 - Visitors can pose for pictures inside this small spaceship, located in front of the Red Light Garage; I like the retro Stardust Motel sign, too
W12A0075 - The Oasis Bordello Museum highlight a part of Wallace's history; although the building looks older, the bordello was in operation until the 1970s, so much of the interior features a classic 70s look
W12A0083 - Wallace Mayor Ron Gariton declared the town to be the center of the universe after getting too much attention from the EPA for his tastes; a sewer cover in the intersection of Bank and 6th Streets marks the exact location
S05A0122 - North of town is the Burke Ghost Town including abandoned buildings from the Hecla Mine
S05A0101 - Further up the road is Cooper Pass, where one can access several hiking trails, including the Stateline Trail with views of Pear Lake

'Who..What..When??' ELMER'S FOUNTAIN, Wallace Idaho/Mullan Episode 02
Authentic Functioning Folk-Art. My first visit to this place. Elmer's Fountain sits just off the East bound lane of I-90 about 5 & Half miles from Wallace, right before Mullan. Being in the Silver Valley, of course it is made from old mining equipment! Location is beautiful. I didn't hike up to the mine though, perhaps another day (I'm to fat to do much hiking anymore).
Really a nice place. I was a little impressed!

Historic Sutherland, Nebraska Railroad Depot
Sutherland's Depot was built in 1894 and served the community until the early 1970's. Since then it has been repurposed a number of times and has been derelict in a cornfield for nearly 20 years. It's time to bring it back home.

1st Draft Teaser THE SILVER VALLEY GOLD RUSH Wallace, Murray Idaho
If the video were a painting this would be the 1st Sketch done on a nampkin. Several years ago I did a series on both the Gold and Silver Rushes here in The Silver Valley in North Idaho. I am now completely redoing them in HD (new series, APPROX 8 parts) for the HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY. This is just some clips from the first part (so the heads of HPS can see) and though the Series will be HD this teaser has been compressed down to 'just watchable'. These are also not the graphics that will be used nor is the music. The 'Gold' Series should be completed early next year and the series on the Silver Boom will follow close behind. The series is going to be on DVD so it is interlaced footage so on your computer screen the quality is also effected by that too. (note: I have permission to use historical images/videos and to use 2 Steps From Hell trailer music Music is available on I-tunes.)

Old Railroad Depot
The Ozark Railroad Depot has roots dating back to 1879 when the Fort Smith - Little Rock Railroad was built through Ozark. The original railroad depot here in Ozark was East of the current location. The railroad in this area became a part of the St Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad which was later absorbed by the Missouri - Pacific Railroad System by 1910. This was also the same time period that the existing Railroad Depot located here in Ozark was built. The Railroad was erected by one of the larger twentieth century railroads in the state and there was an increase in railroad traffic through Ozark at the time the current building was erected. Ozark was a major river port for the export of coal yet, at that period in history larger boats such as barges transporting goods and materials could only travel a limited distance on the Arkansas River. This gave the railroad an advantage point here in Ozark. The railroad depot is one of the finest examples of a Craftsman Style, load bearing building in Ozark. It's history as a landmark here in Ozark remains to date. Currently, the depot is a Museum containing a large assortment of interesting historical documents, pictures and items there for people to enjoy learning about the history of Ozark.
