Northwood Park Down To Cowes Esplanade - Virtual Walk - Isle Of Wight - December 2019 | kittikoko
Did a quick circuit of the grounds of Northwood House before walking down the steps to the seafront. I could barely move after all the Christmas chocolate I've been eating!
The tennis courts have just been resurfaced.
Northwood House is a country manor house in Cowes on the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom. The current building dates back to 1799 and was built for the London businessman George Ward, remaining in his family for five generations. It is a Grade II listed building, said to have a ground floor area of around 15,000 square feet.
In 1929, Northwood House and its 26-acre pleasure park, known as Northwood Park, were gifted by the Wards to Cowes Urban District Council. The gift was conditional upon the house being used as municipal offices and the grounds ‘as pleasure gardens for the people of Cowes’.
In 2010, after 81 years of operating as Council offices, the Council withdrew and handed the house and estate over to a charitable trust to administer. Today this Georgian manor house is looked after and run by the Northwood House Charitable Trust Co. Ltd. Their aim is to preserve the building and its grounds for the enjoyment of future generations. Its grounds are open to the public and its buildings are available to hire or to let by the general public as an events centre. This is typically for weddings, parties and conferences.

A Mug of Tea in the Rain Along East Cowes Seafront
Debated earlier whether to cycle across to Gurnard and treat myself to a cup of tea in the Waters Edge Cafe. Perhaps have a read of my book, Bad Blood by Lorna Sage, whilst occasionally glancing out at the window at the sea. But I didn't. Opted instead for a ride around East Cowes: Clarence Road, Minerva Road, Kingston Road, Cadet's Walk, Beatrice Avenue, A3021, New Barn Road, Old Road, Cambridge Road and finally the Esplanade where I realised I was pretty soaked - the rain had steadily been getting heavier as I went along. Anyway, having taken my travel mug, I had a nice drink of sweet warm tea. Also took some snaps. As I do!
A Misty Morning Drone Flight Over Northwood
Today was forecast to be windy, cloudy and raining... So a very pleasant surprise to wake up to sunshine and fairly light wind. Luckily I had a battery charged, so nipped out before breakfast to have a quick flight from Northwood over the River Medina. The mist wasn't perfect as impaired visibility but wasn't low enough to fly over the top. Ah well, was great to get out in the Sun anyway. (and it was windy, cloudy and raining by lunchtime! :) )
